Four year old Toosie found herself at our shelters last month after her family were no longer able to look after her.

Toosie was shy and nervous when we first met her, she wasn’t quite sure of where she was but with lots of love from our staff she quickly came out of her shell and showed us her sweet personality.

Toosie loves to watch the world go by curled up in her favourite spot and would make an excellent companion for keeping you company while you watch your favourite shows!

If you think you can give Toosie the forever home she deserves please visit her at our North Melbourne shelter today!

Let us introduce you to the most stylish dog at our Cranbourne shelter, Jack.

Two year old Jack found himself in our care 42 days ago after his family were no longer able to look after him. Jack has everyone he meets falling in love with him and it’s easy to see why!

This handsome boy is looking for a home with adults only and wouldn’t mind living with another doggo pending a successful meet and greet. Jack also LOVES to play with bubbles!

If you think Jack is the one for you please head into our Cranbourne shelter Monday - Friday for a meet and greet!

When two year old Timmy Turner came to us in June he was frightened and overwhelmed with all the new smells and noises around him.

Our behaviour team began working with him to build up his confidence and soon enough Timmy was showing off his loving personality.

Timmy loves to learn new tricks and play with toys and he’ll never say no to a treat! He can get a little worried around other dogs so he will need to be the only dog in the home and would much prefer to be in a home with adults only.

Timmy is looking for a home where his humans are going to match his high energy but are also willing to lay on the couch together to watch a movie at the end of the day, so if you think you’re the human for Timmy please head into our North Melbourne shelter Monday - Friday!

Timmy can’t wait to meet you!

Seven year old Rex was surrendered to us back in April when his family was sadly no longer able to take care of him.

Rex has spent the past 145 days searching for his forever home. 145 days is too long for any animal to spend without a home so we’re hoping, with your help that we can find Rex his perfect forever home.

Rex is a playful boy who loves a game of fetch and tug-of-war but most of all, loves his snacks! Rex has just learnt how to shake and will happily show that off for a treat or two!

Rex would prefer to live in a home with no other dogs. He loves his humans and would love to be in a home with secondary school aged children or adults only as he can get a bit over excited!

If you think you can give Rex the loving forever home he deserves please visit him at our North Melbourne shelter today!

Wallace update!

Wallace’s mum Maya tells us that Wallace has “settled in beautifully, he loves running around in our backyard and being snuggled under blankets in a warm and loving home!”

Wallace also has a new best friend, Toby! Toby is Maya’s mother’s grandson. “Toby often comes over to nannas house to play with Wallace, they love each other!” Maya says.

We’re so happy to see that Wallace is living his best life in his forever home!

Update: Arthur has been adopted! 🥰

Arthur is getting ready to celebrate his 17th birthday next week and we are hoping that will happen in a loving home with someone that will love him unconditionally for the rest of his life.

Unfortunately, Arthur’s family couldn’t take care of him anymore so he found himself at our shelter a bit scared and needing reassurance that everything would be ok.

This beautiful man still has plenty of love in him and our wonderful vet team is here to support and guide his new family in any extra care he may need because of his senior age.

So if you can help our beautiful Arthur celebrate his 17th birthday in style with a forever home, please visit our North Melbourne shelter today.

Hello my name is Penguin.

I was seven months old when my friends at The Home found me on the streets without a home.

I couldn’t hear anything because I am deaf but I could feel their love and that to me was the most important thing.

I am nine months old now and my friends here at The Home think I am ready to find my forever home.

I am looking for a special home as I am learning how to navigate this big wide world. I would prefer to be the only dog but I like the company of cats!

If you’d like to come and meet me, head into the North Melbourne shelter during opening hours today!

Deborah and her family have always loved dogs. Deborah knows all too well about the importance of making plans for caring for your pets once relatives have passed away.

Sadly, Deborah’s brother suddenly passed away two years ago, leaving behind him his sweet, 12-year old Bishon Frise companion, Raphael.
Last year, Deborah’s mother passed away, leaving Deborah to care for two dogs all by herself.

“After losing my mother and my brother, my mind turned towards thinking about who would care for my gorgeous dogs when I wasn’t around anymore to look after them?”

After thinking about it for a while and reading through our ‘Pets in Wills Guide’, Deborah has now left clear instructions in her Will about who will look after her dogs after she’s no longer able to be by their side.

She’s also kindly included a gift to the Home in her Will to help the charity continue caring for lost and abandoned dogs and cats long into the future.

You can find out more about how you can leave instructions for the care of your pet AND support your favourite animal charities with a kind gift in your own Will by visiting our website - www.dogshome.com/petsinwills

ATTICUS Update:
Atticus’ parents tell us this beautiful boy has settled in very well and getting along famously with the cats in the household too. During the first few nights dad Paul slept with Atticus on the couch to make sure Atti knew he wasn’t alone.
Now Atticus owns the couch and enjoys his walks out and about.
Above all Atticus loves being with his mum and dad on the couch and getting all the love he deserves. Thanks Susan and Paul!!

Our Half Price, Full Love adoption drive where all adult dogs are half price is in full swing with 13 dogs already adopted, including Draco!

Julia visited our Cranbourne shelter yesterday to meet Draco, she had planned to return today so her husband could have a meet and greet too, but Julia tells us “he was already buying new things for Draco overnight!” With Draco destined to be part of the family, they came back today to bring Draco home.

Draco can be quite shy and nervous around new people but the moment Draco saw his new family it was all smiles and big tail wags!

We wish Draco and his new family the best life ever!

Four year old Peanut Butter was found all alone on the street with a big, infected neck wound. He was in pain, scared and unsure of who he could trust.

With some patience, love and care from our team, Peanut Butter was feeling so much better and his smoochy personality was beginning to shine through.

Peanut Butter is FIV+, which means he’ll need to go to a home with another FIV+ friend or by himself. FIV is nothing to be scared about, Peanut Butter is just like any other cat!

This special boy can’t wait to find his forever home, so if you think you can give him the life he deserves, head down to our North Melbourne shelter today!

Humphrey was just four months old when he was found on the streets all alone and looking for a warm embrace and bed to call his own. It took a lot of time for Humphrey to come out of his shell and know he is safe and loved.

At just eight months old this spotty boy has become quite the superstar here and enjoys play dates with other doggos, making friends wherever he goes.

We would dearly love to find this beautiful boy a home. He really would make a wonderful furry member.

Lets start the week in the right direction by finding our Humphrey the best home ever!

The Lost Dogs’ Home is delighted to announce that Atticus has found his forever home and has gone home to live with his new parents Susan and Paul.
Almost two months ago Australia stood together as we watched over the five-year-old staghound with hope in our hearts that Atticus would pull through given his horrific experience at being left starved and dying on a pile of hard rubbish in a Melbourne suburb.
Not only did Atticus pull through, but he did so with a fight and determination that inspired everyone around him.
Today Atticus starts his new life in picturesque Gippsland, a happy and healthy boy that will continue to inspire everyone for many years to come. All the best Atti, on behalf of everyone at The Lost Dogs’ Home we wish you and your new family nothing but love, happiness and a lifetime of joy.

We couldn’t do what we do without the help of our incredible volunteers.

Anna has been volunteering with us since January last year. She makes sure all the donations we receive through the mail are processed so receipts can be sent out.

Wanting to ‘’give back’’ in her spare time Anna thought this would be a fantastic opportunity for her.

Anna has always loved animals and currently has some fish, birds and a 15 year old fox terrier called Nora!

Anna adores her job here at the Home, and she recommends that everyone who has the time to volunteer to do so. “It’s such an enjoyable time, the people are friendly and the work is so rewarding” she says.

A big thank you to Anna and all of our volunteers at the Home!

Celebrations for International Cat Day 2024 continue with the news that Dora has been adopted!

Yesterday we introduced you to Dora, a four month old blind kitten who was searching for her forever home.
James and his daughter Ruby visited our North Melbourne shelter this morning after seeing her story online. James tells us “we wanted to be the first ones here, we had been looking for a special needs cat for a while and when we saw Dora online we knew we had to meet her.”

Dora, now Grace, was quick to jump into Ruby arms - the two are inseparable and are going to be best friends for life!

Grace will also be going home to a fur sibling, 3 year old Matilda who will be able to show Grace the ropes and get her settled in!

“She’s just so cute, we’re so excited to bring her home” says James.

We’re so excited for Grace and her new family and a big thank you to everyone who shared her story!

Sweet little Dora came to our North Melbourne shelter at just four weeks old, found in a car yard in one of Melbourne’s inner suburbs.

Sadly, both her eyes were in a terrible state and we made the decision to remove them so she wouldn’t be in pain anymore.

Dora has spent quite a bit of time recovering in foster and just learning how to adjust as a kitty without vision.

But we are happy to tell you she is doing just fine and what Dora lacks in vision, she makes up for with her sweet and loving personality. This little girl just loves to cuddle!!

Dora will need to be an indoor cat and at just four months old she is still learning how to navigate life.

So if you're looking for a special little kitty to brighten up your world, then look no further than the most affectionate little companion, Dora.

Here’s some good news for your Tuesday afternoon - Pearl has been adopted!

Last week we introduced you to Pearl, our sweet, almost 10 year-old girl who unfortunately had terminal cancer. Pearl was surrendered into our care two months ago and has been patiently waiting to find her forever home.

Varun was looking for a senior dog to adopt when he came across Pearl’s story online. Varun told us he “wanted to give Pearl a chance at a safe, loving forever home for however long she had left.”

“I’ll do whatever it takes for her, just as I would if it was my own son or daughter, I just want to give her the best life ever” he says.

Varun tells us that Pearl is “settling in really well, she loves playing with her toys and loves sleeping on my bed.” Pearl is getting spoilt with all her favourite foods and that he’s beginning to see her “sweet, goofy personality” shine through.

Thank you to everyone who shared Pearl’s story, we couldn’t have done this without you.

Atticus is a dog who needs no introduction. You will all know his horrific story; starved and abandoned on a hard rubbish pile, but Atticus is a fighter and thrived and blossomed while in the care of The Home.

It’s finally time for Atticus to start the next chapter of his life and find his forever home! Five year-old Atticus has spent the last four weeks in foster care with his foster mum Jamie.

Jamie nurtured and cared for Atticus, getting him nearly back to his full strength. Atticus adores people and loves nothing more than snoozing on the couch, watching TV, taking slow strolls around the neighbourhood and most of all snacks.

Our special boy is looking for a home with somebody who is home more often than not, he is such a loyal boy who wants to be by his favourite humans side all of the time. Atticus does get quite worried about other dogs and so we are looking for him to go to a home where he is the only dog, however Atticus is currently living with 3 cats and has shown positive behaviours towards them so would be suited to go to a home with cats! Atticus is not fussed about his humans, he can go to a home with children, a couple or someone living by themselves, as long as you have treats and lots of love for him, he’ll be happy!

We understand that Atticus has pulled on the heartstrings of all of Melbourne and we are committed to ensuring he finds his perfect home. Atticus will continue to stay with his foster mum while his adoption is completed through an application selection process. Please click on the application link and submit your request to meet Atticus.

https://dogshome.wufoo.com/forms/atticus-adoption-enquiry/

*Please note due to the high number of applications only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.

A few weeks ago we introduced you to two best friends, Norm and Sage and sadly they’re still looking for their forever homes.

Norm and Sage were surrendered together and we simply can’t bear to seperate them so they’ll need to be adopted together. They’ve now been in our care for more than 100 days so we’d love nothing more than to see them in their forever homes as soon as possible. Norm and Sage do absolutely everything together, they love playing with one another and even eat all their meals together.

Norm and Sage have a special adoption fee of $100.

If you think you can give these two best friends the forever home they’re looking for please head into our Cranbourne shelter today for a meet and greet.

Norm and Sage can’t wait to meet you!
