Unbridled Histories: Parallel Narratives of Women and Horses
What is it about women and horses?
In the vast rich tapestry of human history, the stories of women and horses have been weaved together in intricate patterns of subjugation, harnessing, and restriction.
Both women and horses have been subject to restrictive societal norms, limitations, and exploitation that reflects a complex interplay of power dynamics. These are just a few of the ways in which both have been harnessed and restricted throughout history.
Taming the Wildness: Domestication
In ancient societies, both women and horses underwent processes of domestication. Women, like horses, were often seen as entities to be controlled and molded according to societal norms. While way way back, women were the wisdom keepers, more traditional gender roles confined women to domestic spheres, limiting access to education, employment, and decision-making and in many countries, this continues. Similarly, horses that once roamed wild and free, were domesticated for labor, transportation and warfare.
Tools of Power: Women, Horses and Patriarchy
Patriarchal societies have utilized the bodies of both women and horses as tools of power. Women have historically been subjugated to male dominance, with their autonomy restricted by societal norms and legal frameworks. Similarly, horses became instruments of power in warfare and agriculture.
Symbolism and Objectification
Throughout history, women and horses have been objectified and reduced to symbols. Women were often seen as embodiments of virtue or temptation, while horses were symbols of strength, nobility, or servitude. This objectification reinforced societal norms, perpetuating the cycle of subjugation.
Liberation Movements: Women and Horses Breaking Free
Just as women have fought for their rights and liberation, many people now support horses, advocating for all aspects of their well-being. The animal rights movement has sought to address the exploitation of horses in various industries, highlighting the need for ethical treatment and care.
Empowerment and Resilience: Women and Horses Today
In contemporary times, both women and horses have made strides toward empowerment and resilience. Women have shattered glass ceilings, challenging societal expectations and reclaiming their narratives. Likewise, the equestrian community, while it seems slow, has seen a shift towards more compassionate and ethical treatment of horses, emphasizing their well-being over exploitation.
As we navigate the complexities of our shared past, it is crucial to recognize and dismantle the systems of oppression that have affected both women and horses. By understanding these parallel narratives, we can work towards a future where autonomy, freedom, and respect define the relationships between humans and these beautiful beings with whom we share our histories.

My Horse My Self - Embrace Your Wild Elegance: the Resonance Between Women and Horses
In the rich tapestry of life, women and horses have long shared a powerful connection, woven with strands of strength, grace, adventure and untamed spirit.
Just as horses gallop freely and wildly across open fields or plains, women too possess an innate ability to navigate the vast landscapes of their lives with power and poise.
Imagine the horse, a majestic creature that artfully embodies both strength and sensitivity. Women, like these magnificent beings, harness a duality that is both compelling and enchanting. There's a natural elegance in the way a woman carries herself, the swing of the hips, reminiscent of the effortless grace with which a horse moves through a meadow.
Consider the unspoken language shared between a rider and her horse - a silent understanding, an energetic connection that transcends words. Women, too, possess an intuitive wisdom that allows them to communicate with the world around them on a deeper, more profound level. This is revealed in the way they navigate relationships, understand unspoken emotions, read body language, and create bonds that withstand the tests of time.
Just as horses have a spirited nature, women exude a similar fire within. The untamed spirit of a woman is like the wind that whistles through a horse's mane, urging them to run faster and reach new heights. It's the adventurous spark that drives women to explore, dream, and break through barriers, just as horses may gallop through open fields without fear.
Imagine the steadfast loyalty of a horse, always there for its rider. In the same vein, women offer unwavering support to those they care about, standing by their loved ones through thick and thin. Like a horse, a woman's loyalty is a force that binds families and friendships together, creating a sense of security, compassion and connection.
And then there's the resilience - the ability to ride the waves and weather the storms to emerge stronger on the other side. Just as a horse stands patient and strong, tail to the gusts of a storm, women rise above challenges with grit, grace and determination. The strength to overcome adversity is a shared quality that defines both horses and women.
So, dear sisters, recognize the untamed beauty that lies within yourselves. Embrace your wild elegance, and untamed parts of you, the strength, the grace, and the spirit that unites you with the majestic Horse.
For it is in the reflection of these magnificent creatures, that you will discover a profound connection that reaches deep to the heart of you and celebrates all of the extraordinary qualities that make you who you are.
A famous Tang dynasty poet, Du Fu, wrote a poem titled
“On a Horse Painting by Han Gan":
This horse is a work by Han Gan. . . .
And Longwen’s long body.
White flesh like snow,
And Orchid veins tense like the wind.
A gait untrammeled,
And movement without restraint.
Four hooves ringing like thunder and hailstones—
Covering heaven and earth in a single day . . .
Look at its thoroughbred bones:
Truly, it is one of the dragon herd.

"Recipe for a fresh and clean Happy New Year . . . . . . . . . . . .
Take twelve fine, full-grown months;
see that these are thoroughly free from old memories of bitterness, rancor and hate, cleanse them completely from every clinging spite;
pick off all specks of pettiness and littleness; in short, see that these months are freed from all the past — have them fresh and clean as when they first came from the great storehouse of Time.
Cut these months into thirty or thirty-one equal parts.
Do not attempt to make up the whole batch at one time (so many persons spoil the entire lot this way) but prepare one day at a time.
Into each day put equal parts of faith, patience, courage, work (some people omit this ingredient and so spoil the flavor of the rest), hope, fidelity, liberality, kindness, rest (leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad dressing — don’t do it), prayer, meditation, and one well-selected resolution.
Put in about one teaspoonful of good spirits, a dash of fun, a pinch of folly, a sprinkling of play, and a heaping cupful of good humor". - Unknown

❤️Happy Summer Solstice to all my Southern Hemisphere dwelling friends and Winter Solstice to all my Northern Hemisphere friends.❤️
This year the solstice occurs on Friday 22nd Dec.
It always seems to come around so quickly in the South as the Solstice marks a pivotal moment in the sun’s apparent movement. On this day, the sun’s path seems to pause and change direction, a phenomenon that gives rise to the term "solstice".
The word originates from the Latin “solstitium”, meaning “sun stands still.” “This apparent standstill occurs as the sun reaches its southernmost point for those in the North.
For us down South it’s the longest day and is the shortest day of the year in the North. It marks the beginning of our descent to the dark with the shortening of the days and yet it feels like summer has hardly started
Whichever hemisphere you are in, this moment of stillness today is a great reminder to honour our connection to the natural world.
This image reminds me that as the wheel of life turns, winter is chasing the summer.
Honouring Horse - I would not be living and doing what I do without these sisters and brothers in spirit. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, joining with us as teachers, guides, muses in programs and ceremonies, and so effortlessly teaching us the embodiment of awareness and presence, freedom, beauty, energy, and healing power.
"The whole world is a circle.
All of these circular images reflect the psyche, so there may be some relationship between these architectural designs and the actual structuring of our spiritual functions.
When a magician wants to work magic, he puts a circle around himself, and it is within this bounded circle, this hermetically sealed-off area, that powers can be brought into play that are lost outside the circle.
-- Joseph Campbell
"The journey into self-acceptance must begin with self-examination...
Until you take the journey of self-reflection, it is almost impossible to grow or learn in life"
- Iyanla Vanzant
We are all on a spiral path.
No growth takes place in a straight line.
There will be setbacks along the way...
There will be shadows, but they will be balanced by patches of light and fountains of joy as we grow and progress.
Awareness of the pattern is all you need to sustain you along the way...
- Kristin Zambucka
It's important to connect with your heart and ask yourself
"What do I care most about in my life?
Given everything that is happening and how I am feeling, what do I want?"
Do this regularly, and preferably every day. Stop for a moment right now and ask yourself this question....
take a few conscious breathes and place your hand on your heart and ask
"What do I care most about in relation to....
my life,
my career or job,
my community,
my animals,
my close relationships and family life,
the planet?"...
"In the depths of my heart, gut and mind, what do I truly value and care about and what is it that I want?"
This is a very important daily inner communication and conversation that each and everyone needs to have with oneself.
At times it will be easy to connect with that wisdom within and ask, at other times it'll be more difficult, yet it is of crucial importance to do this and to have this conversation with yourself daily so that you can be living the life you wish to lead with passion and compassion.
There is no point putting it off any longer or you may find your days have suddenly zoomed by and now there are no longer any days left on which you can take action to create your life.
The only time is now.
Just do it.
We can help you develop this communication, alignment and integration process, we know where and how to start.
