💬What does effective oral language intervention look like?
DSF Literacy Services (The Dyslexia Speld Foundation of WA) suggests that intervention is most beneficial when it is delivered individually or in small groups with precise targeting at the right level.
NELI is an evidence-based tier 2 oral language intervention program for lower primary students. It includes scripted sessions targeted at both individuals and small groups that achieve results.

👧How do I support students with oral language difficulties both individually and in groups, while creating a more engaged classroom?
🧸NELI is a research-backed 20-week intervention program that improves students' oral language and early literacy skills. It involves three group sessions and two individual sessions per week for students identified as having oral language difficulties.
NELI Whole Class complements and enhances NELI by delivering oral language enrichment to all students in your class while giving extra support to those in the intervention program.
👀Take a sneak peek at the NELI intervention and whole class sessions to see how they support individuals, groups and the entire class:

👩🏫How do classroom teachers improve students’ oral language skills while delivering the curriculum?
Teachers can help improve students’ oral language skills by integrating language development activities into all subjects. Oral language difficulties impact comprehension across various disciplines, not just English.
In subjects like Maths, Science and Humanities, strong oral language skills are essential for understanding concepts, following instructions and expressing ideas clearly.
🧸The NELI and NELI Whole Class intervention programs enhance students' oral language and literacy skills, integrating seamlessly with the English curriculum and supporting the teaching of other subjects.

🤔What about students who are learning English as an additional language or speaking multiple languages at home?
Oral language is an important factor of later success in school, so it is crucial that we offer effective support to students with oral language difficulties in the early years.
📱OxEd’s evidence-based assessment app – LanguageScreen identifies students with oral language difficulties and measures their language improvements over time. After identifying students with oral language difficulties, NELI helps boost students’ oral language and early literacy skills regardless of their English proficiency levels.
🔍Research has shown that EAL/D students who have completed NELI intervention made the same additional progress as students who are native English speakers.
