What Being Sober Has Meant to Me | Brené Brown

The last drink I had was January 11, 2019. It wasn’t a “I’m never going to drink again” it was me pressing a pause button on my drinking.

And what Brené says in this wonderful blog on her sobriety resonates so much “If you’re asking yourself if your drinking is problematic, then, at the very least, drinking is probably not serving you.” I’m not an alcoholic but I did start to question whether my drinking was serving me. And 5 months and a bit later it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.

I’ve been drinking since I was 14 years old. Mostly weekend binge drinking in my teens and twenties. Then very nice wine and scotch in my 30’s. And then as a mother it was the glass of wine (or two or three) every night as a reward at the end of the day after looking after 3 kids under the age of 20 months. The kids are now 6, 4 and 4 and the glass of white wine was getting earlier and earlier in the day.

AND a huge thank you to you Rachel Wirth for being an inspiration for me pressing pause.

This article may resonate or it may not. Would love to know what you all think x

brenebrown.com I celebrated 23 years sober this month – May 12 to be exact. About a year ago, I was talking to a dear friend who was newly sober, and our conversation shifted something in me. For the first time in my life, I realized that my sobriety isn’t a burden or limitation. Sobriety isn’t even a “hav...

Sassy Mama Hong Kong

Thanks for the shout out Sassy Mama! Only 2 days left for the early bird ticket price for my Body Love for Mothers workshop in Hong Kong.

After spending two meaningful and empowering days with a small a group of like minded mothers you will leave with a set of practical tools and strategies you can use to help you and your kids in moments of self doubt about yours and their bodies.

Join us!!! 18th and 19th of May at the Kinnet Restaurant in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong x

We all know that our outlook on life, especially how we see ourselves in front of the mirror (and what we say about what we see!), can influence our kids greatly. We want our children to grow up seeing their mamas adopt self-love, empathise, be authentic and vulnerable so that they believe it themselves too. It’s time to embrace our whole selves, mama – that includes the changes to our post-baby body and all!

If you’re longing for meaningful conversations about how those concepts are an important part of loving your body, Rebecca Hopkins at Live Brave Workshops is hosting Body Love for Mothers, a two day transformational workshop to help you create a positive body image. Rebecca uses the methodology of Dr. Brené Brown and is a Certified Facilitator of her work.

Like-minded mothers and yourself will leave the two day workshop with a set of practical tools and strategies you can use to help you and your kids in moments of self-doubt about yours and their bodies.

Early bird tickets are $3,998 HKD (20% off) expiring Sunday April 30 at 7pm. The workshop is on Thursday and Friday 18th and 19th of May at the gorgeous Kinnet Restaurant Private Room in Sheung Wan.
