Meet Sabeen - one of our Occupational Therapists in the Home care team 🧡

Sabeen has over 15 years of experience supporting the community as an Occupational Therapist in Australia and overseas. She holds a Master's Degree in Clinical Rehabilitation from Flinders University Adelaide (2018) and a post-graduate diploma in Dementia Care from the University of Tasmania (2021). Sabeen has worked in various settings, including , Residential Aged Care, Home Care and Palliative Care. Sabeen brings a warm and caring approach to every new client, and her advanced qualifications in make her a great fit to serve people living with Dementia, Alzheimer's, and acquired brain injuries.

In her spare time, Sabeen enjoys cross-stitch embroidery, gardening, cooking, and travelling with her family.

💼 WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT VIVIR HEALTHCARE?
I have been working with Vivir Healthcare for over 7 years, currently as a Clinical Supervisor working clinically across our residential aged care, home care and telehealth services. I enjoy working within a supportive team environment as we try to make lives better for our aged care clients.

🧡 WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY WHILST WORKING WITH AGED CARE RESIDENTS?
That's a hard one! A recent one that sticks out is a resident who had been quite unwell and had a rapid decline becoming bed bound. This resident started to show signs of improvement and staff & family were understandably very concerned about his risk of falls and unsure about getting him back on his feet. However, over a period of 6 months we were able to provide our support as they recovered, their mobility improved remarkably to the point at which they were able to safely return home.

⚽ WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Sport, particularly soccer is what keeps me busy most weeks. I have been playing for over 20 years playing and hopefully 20 more! Other than that, travelling is another big one and I have been known to combine the two wherever possible.

Today marks the start of Dementia Action Week. With data suggesting that this brain condition will soon become the leading cause of death in Australia, it is important we all take action in learning more about dementia and recognise the signs and symptoms. These include:

🧠 Trouble doing familiar tasks
🧠 Confusion about time and place
🧠 Problems with language
