This week for we are focusing on our Step Around Australia Challenge!
For the whole month of September we are challenging our members to increase their daily amount of steps so that together as a Centre we can see how far we can walk.
For every 50,000 steps you do as an individual, you will go into the draw to win a $50 gift card! So if you reach your 10,000 steps each day for the month, you'll get 6 entries in total!!
1 lap around Australia is 21,120,000 steps, so lets and see how far we can all go as a Centre! So far we have collectively stepped 314,454 steps, so let's keep it up and get stepping π£πΆββοΈπ

Each day in September we are challenging you all to increase your steps for the month and see how many as a Centre we can collectively do.
1 lap around Australia is 21,120,000 steps so lets see if we can all work together to step our way around Australia! π
Do you know your serving sizes?
Healthy eating starts with mindful serving sizes - balance your plate for better nutrition and a healthier you!
To create a balanced plate, all you need to do is look at your hand for a reference of how much you should be eating. For example, fill your plate with a moderate handful size of grains, 2 fistful sizes of fruits or vegetables, a palm sized portion of protein and a fingertip amount of oils.

We are undergoing some minor maintenance to our toilets tomorrow morning, so there will be slight disruptions to our changerooms from 8:30am tomorrow morning, Thursday the 14th.

To compete in the challenge, you will need to collect a passport from either Reception or the Health Club which has your daily activities to complete on it.

Make your move with The Dance Society
Come dancing with Monbulk Aquatic Centre's very own dance classes for kids from 3 years to 14 years old! Join in the classes, lead by experienced dancers, that use a range of fun and engaging games and activities to teach dance steps and skills and promote creativity, leadership, social and motor/manipulation skills.
Get dancing on Wednesdays from 5:15 to 6pm for Hip Hop for 10 to 14 year-olds and Thursdays from 4:15 to 5pm for Hip Hop for 5 year-olds and up! Join Prue each Thursday evening at 7pm for Pilates! Prue brings her own special spin on Pilates and has accrued a very strong following here at MAC. Bookings are a must if you wish to secure a spot in one of her classes, so remember to book in via your Active World app!

From the 5th - 11th of August we are running Health Checks in our health club. Get your vital signs tested plus your bodily measurements done to help keep you on track and accountable with your fitness goals!

We welcome you to register on the day for entry to our Health Club, but we encourage you to book in advance for Yin Yoga so you can make sure you secure a spot as spaces are limited.

We are happy to announce we have added a new class to our timetable at MAC!
STRENGTH + CARDIO is a combination of functional strength movements and higher intensity activities aimed at helping you transition your workouts between Group Fitness and Gym Floor, so you can feel confident and capable no matter what!
STRENGTH + CARDIO runs every Tuesday at 6pm with trainer Di.

Today, 25 July, is World Drowning Prevention Day. A day to remind everyone on the importance of staying alert around water for the safety of all. But the message shouldn't stop there.
We want to encourage continual reminders of how you and others can stay safe in and around water. Do one thing to help prevent drowning, such as:

Always ensure adequate supervision of children and weak or non-swimmers when in and around water.
β
Help to educate others on the importance of water safety
β
Learn aquatic rescue skills and CPR
β
Encourage sensible, safe behaviour in and around water
β
Identify and remove potential water safety hazards
β
Become a Pool Lifeguard or Swim Teacher
This week for we are learning about !
Doms is an abbreviated term for Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness - so it's that sore feeling that you get in your muscles after a workout. Doms tend to kick in 1-2 days after exercise and can last for a few days afterwards.
To help reduce the severity of Doms, make sure to prioritise your recovery after and in between your workout sessions. You can do this by incorporating:

π§ Massage
π§ Adequate Hydration
π§ Eating foods rich in Magnesium

This August, we are celebrating Sunday Sessions at Monbulk Aquatic Centre by offering free entry to non-members every Sunday between 9am - 12pm, as well as free entry into our Yin Yoga class at 10am.
The aim of Sunday Sessions is to help cut back alcohol consumption and swap a boozy weekend for a more active weekend! By simply reducing your alcohol intake over the weekends, you'll notice just how much fresher you'll feel and that exercising is that little bit easier!
