Art classes and workshops run by professional artists in the heart of Fitzroy. All students continue to receive one-on-one teaching.
Beginners:
This oil painting class is designed for the complete beginner, and through a series of exercises and examples the student learns the fundamentals of painting, including choice of mediums and materials, preparing to paint, basic colour theory, and composition. Our Story
Established in 2009 and run by professional artists and highly qualified teachers, Fitzroy Painting began when a need for a ‘back to basics’ method of teaching was identified. Our classes are structured but fun and informal, every student receives one-on-one guidance and works at their own pace.
Our classes are held in a light-filled traditional artists studio in the heart of vibrant Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, and we offer a range of courses and workshops for all levels, from complete beginners through to advanced students looking for support and community. We also run occasional specialised workshops in a range of media by visiting artists, check our booking page for upcoming classes.
Our beginners and ongoing student classes run for 3 hours, basic equipment and storage facilities are available for student use at the studio. Ongoing students are able to use the studio outside of class hours. We believe in safe studio-practice and provide students with low-odour/low-toxic mediums and solvents as well as artist-quality clean-up materials and aprons.
All ongoing students are invited to exhibit in our annual end of year exhibition, a fun opportunity to show family and friends what you’ve been doing.
