A fantastic achievement and thank you for representing the umpire brigade at the event ๐

More feel-good stories coming out of the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Victorian Football Umpires' Association as we hit the backend of the season, with representation in the VFL and Coates Girls Grand Finals this weekend from NFNL and NUA alumni! ๐ฑ

Congratulations to NFNL/NUA alumni Joel Clamp on being awarded the 2024 VFL Field Umpire of the Year, an outstanding achievement ๐

No one at and across the league more broadly can doubt the work ethic of Luke Richardson, who always brings his A-game and a level of professionalism to his umpiring that sets the standard. When finals come along, it goes up another level which makes him the perfect role model for all aspiring umpires ๐
However, not leaving a trail of destructive aroma that is unbearable for fellow umpires after visiting the menโs house in the umpires rooms at half time is one area that needs improvementโฆ ๐ฌ
His punishment was wearing the umpires vest at training on Thursday, so letโs hope he has learnt his lesson and didnโt make the same mistake in his senior final at Preston today! ๐คฃ
A big congratulations to former NFNL umpires and NUA members Brett Lynch, Ian Herman, Lachlan Flinn, Luke Gonis and Phillip Pettinella who have been selected as part of the finals panel to officiate in the Coates Boys and Girls Finals Series this month! ๐
Run well guys, a great achievement to get this far ๐
As the nerves have well and truly settled in with some awaiting what games they have been appointed to, take a moment to reflect (or laugh) at some memories of the season as it's unfolded with our selection of mid-week snaps ๐

Great to play our part alongside Northern Football Netball League and AFL Victoria by growing the participation of umpires at local level ๐๐
A big Happy Fatherโs Day to the father figures in our umpiring family!
We hope youโre enjoying the special day with your loved ones and if you happen to be running today, good luck!
Donโt be fooled by that beaming smile, young Christian Steward is out to take the cake, especially at finals time!
He was spotted hitting the gym during the week which suggests one thing โ he means business! While itโs great to see that heโs taking his fitness and wellbeing seriously in the pursuit of achieving his goals, the site of him pumping the weights and flexing those muscles at the gym suggests he may be putting in a greater effort at the backend of the season as opposed to the entirety of it. So, in our books, itโs worthy of an umpires vestโฆ ๐ฌ
2๏ธโฃ weeks to go until we celebrate another season of achievement at the NUA Gala! ๐

Kransky rolls will be dished up after training on Thursday evening. $5 each! Dim sims available also ๐
Experienced umpires that have been in the game long enough will testify that officiating a junior match is not that difficult, so long as you have sound communication and match management skills.
However, in a world of technology thatโs continuously advancing, it seems that making a point of utilising such devices in local sporting matches where not needed to make the job โeasierโ is acceptable behaviour.
Not on the watch of the judging panel of the umpires vest, this may well take the cake! ๐ As the one who was at the forefront of initiating the stunt over his teammates, Kieran Doran was the one on the short end of the stick with the list of candidates over the last week. As such, his cheeky grin was beaming from ear to ear when he wore the vest at training last night ๐ฌ๐
A big congratulations to young William Naish, pictured here with Head of Umpiring Marty Ellis as he was awarded Junior Umpire of the Year at the Northern Football Netball League Junior Presentation Night last evening ๐
A top effort, we look forward to seeing your development as an umpire for many years to come ๐
3๏ธโฃ weeks to go until the night of nights at the NUA Gala! ๐

Donโt forget to hang around for a meal after training tonight, what a ripping day itโs turning out to be for it! โ๏ธ
Pies and chips available afterwards. $5 for a pie, $8 for the combo.
A good source of nutrition and refuelling your body to cope with the athleticism involved in umpiring should be at the forefront of eating choices on game day, right?
Well, Austin โAussieโ Welsh had other ideas a fortnight ago. Having umpired an U19โs game in the morning and then the senior game at Montmorency later in the day, Aussieโs choice of food to keep him fuelled for the big day came in the form of a delicious HSP! No doubt a great meal, but probably best to stay away from it on game day ๐๐
Who will receive the umpires vest for their antics this week? Be sure to get to training on Thursday night to find out ๐
As always, the most basic principle of training is the commitment to attend.
Two weeks ago, life member Russell Yin took a few days of R&R by hitting slopes at Mount Buller with mates. Always a fun activity! โท๏ธ
However, this came at the cost of skipping training that week which prompted the judges of the umpires vest to question his commitment to it. While he is a Carlton supporter, does he have Melbourne traits? ๐ค
As such, he was presented with it at training on Thursday night ๐ฌ
A big congratulations to Alex Langdon, who officiated his 300th senior game in the Hurstbridge v Greensborough match yesterday ๐
Huge effort Chief, an outstanding achievement. Even better to celebrate the moment with your family ๐๐๐
It's feel-good Friday and we're previewing the upcoming weekend of footy with some more pearlers from last weekend! ๐
Are you in this mix of images?
๐ธ Big thanks to umpire Blake Leguier for giving up his time to roam around the grounds on Saturday
The countdown continues, five weeks to go until we celebrate the season that's been at the NUA Gala! ๐ฅ
See Gary Eastwood Music in action and enjoy a three-course meal as we recognise:
- the achievements of our umpires by presentation of awards
- acknowledge grand final appointments for those that would have passed
- announce grand final appointments for division two and preliminary finals for division one
Book your spot for your guarantee of a highly enjoyable and memorable night ๐ด๐บ๐๐ป

Weโve got a ripper lined up for our umpiring group at the conclusion of training on Thursday โ Chicken Kebabs with chips! ๐ฌ
Chicken Kebabs with chips: $8
Chicken Kebab only: $5
Make sure you hang around for a feed and a chit chat after putting in the work on the track ๐
Congratulations to Elwin Jones who yesterday brought up his 100th senior game on the boundary. Hope you enjoyed your day ๐
Congratulations to our President Andrew Mills who today umpires his 300th senior game! Huge achievement. Good luck and enjoy the day!
A change in direction with one of the ripping narratives of our great association has seen the pink vest swapped to blue for now, but that does not mean the fun and calling out your mates on deviant matters has come to a halt!
Airtasker is an avenue of outsourcing jobs so those responsible can avoid undertaking it themselves. Alex โChiefโ Langdon is an umpire guilty of regularly employing such measures, violating umpiring 101 standards to allow his daughters to complete the online match day paperwork, instead of himself as the appointed umpire. Last weekend was no exception!
Therefore, the lanky school teacher from โGodโs Countryโ was awarded with the umpires vest at training last night! ๐ฌ๐คฃ
