The Olympics for skills 🥇

📸 Take a behind-the-scenes look at our air conditioning and refrigeration students at the Australia Regional Competition.

They tested their skills in piping, welding, pressure testing, charging and wiring over a 7-hour challenge – all in pursuit of a spot at the WorldSkills National Championships in 2025 🏆

With our students back from term break, we hosted a special celebration of NAIDOC Week ⚫🟡🔴

We thank Wurundjeri and Yorta Yorta Elder Uncle Shane Charles, who helped us discuss the history, culture, and achievements of our First Nations peoples. Our ongoing connection with Uncle Shane is a privilege that is cherished by BHI.

His powerful words about our connection to earth and country resonated while students and staff met native animals, painted their own boomerang art and enjoyed some indigenous delicacies.

Across our 100 year history, helping those in need has been an important driver for us.

🛠 In 2006, our students built️ a house in Box Hill for young people facing homelessness.

Everyone at BHI was involved - from students who either helped build the house or raise money, to faculty who supervised the project, and marketing who led the fundraising efforts.

🏠 To date, the house has helped over 40 young people in need and continues to make a difference.

What an amazing legacy for everyone involved in this project 🙌

Our Certificate III in Beauty Services students (SHB30121) have embraced Pharaoh fever 🏺

Inspired by the Pharaoh exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria, our students held an Egyptian themed day where they captured the timeless art and culture of the ancient era in makeup art 💄💅🏻✨

We've been named a finalist in the 2024 Victorian Training Awards 🎉

To be recognised as one of Victoria's best Large Training Providers of 2024 is a true honour and reflects the commitment our entire team has made to deliver life-changing learning.

Facing the heat of the kitchen isn’t easy 🔥 But these secondary school students did – and the results were mouth-watering 🤤

A big round of applause to all the teams who took part in the Victorian finals of the Australian Culinary Federation Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge 🍳🍽

We were proud to host this competition at our purpose-built commercial cookery training spaces and dining facilities.

The calibre of culinary skills on display was outstanding – and we didn’t envy the judges’ job in deciding the ultimate winner 🏆

Growing up on a rice farm in Myanmar, Lal faced severe poverty, often going hungry and unable to afford education or healthcare.

In 2017, Lal and his family came to Australia under the Australian government’s humanitarian program. With little English, he signed up for the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) with us.

🚜 Lal went on to study a Certificate II in Horticulture (AHC20416) and Certificate III in Horticulture (AHC30722) at our Lilydale Lakeside campus.

Today, he works for a landscaping business with a dream to open his own one day 💙

The Holeproof Knitting Factory was a major source of textile and manufacturing jobs in Victoria for almost 50 years – in fact, we developed a course for machine operators in knitting mills, providing jobs for over 250 women 🧶

When the Box Hill factory closed in 1992, we bought the old factory and converted it into our Nelson campus 🏫 In this space, we continue to collaborate with industry and turn out highly skilled and job-ready graduates.

3D design technology is changing the game by helping to reduce material waste in the fashion and apparel industries ♻ That's why it’s a vital component of our Bachelor of Design (Fashion Design) program.

At our Lilydale Lakeside campus, we recognise and celebrate the work of Yarra Yarra elder, Aunty Dot Peters AM, with our auditorium bearing her name.

Aunty Dot was dedicated to progressing reconciliation in Victoria and worked with the community to build cultural understanding.
