In 1964, LIFE magazine sent Vaccaro to Finland—to Marimekko. This photoshoot gave us one of the most iconic sets of Marimekko photography, which today offers an enchanting visit to the joyous and colorful 1960s and the origins of Marimekko and, of course, Unikko.

Meet Emma Thomas, our second Pride collab artist for 2024. Emma is a Finnish-American visual artist living in Helsinki. Her main focus is painting and drawing on paper, but during the pandemic, she also began experimenting with textiles.

For her piece at the Marimekko Aleksinkulma store window, Emma aimed to spread joy with a lighthearted creation while also provoking thought and acknowledging the history of Pride.

"I want to honor everyone who has worked to make our world more accepting and those who are fighting every day to keep it that way and keep making it better."

Emma’s artwork for Pride Month 2024 will be exhibited in Helsinki at Marimekko Aleksinkulma (Aleksanterinkatu 50) until July 2. Learn more at https://www.marimekko.com/journal/pride-month-2024.

Meet our first Pride collab artist of 2024: Zander Schlacter is an artist and designer based in Brooklyn, NYC working primarily within the medium of textiles.

“For this project and in my practice more generally, I am influenced by Marimekko’s aesthetic and brand history,” Zander explains. “I sought to capture the boldness of spirit and the handmade, human touch that can be felt in so much Marimekko design.”

Zander’s artwork for Pride Month 2024 will be exhibited at Marimekko New York, 97 Wooster St., NYC until June 30. Visit marimekko.com to learn more.
