Dear Elsternwick CC Community
Unfortunately, we have further sad news to share, with the passing of Don Greenwood on 5 May 2024 aged 93.
Don played cricket for Elsternwick in the 1940s and 50s and served the club as assistant secretary. According to daughter Peta, Don's time representing Elsternwick Cricket Club was among his happiest and he made many lifelong friends through his association with the sport. On the occasion of his 87th birthday Don celebrated surpassing his highest batting score which was 86 not out.
Don's three grandchildren Amy, Darcy and Eddie Lyon all played with Elsternwick Cricket club over the years and this was a source of tremendous pride for Don.
Don continued to take an interest in the club in his later years and enjoyed reading the newsletters that he received periodically. Don would write to the club every year and make a small donation that was considered his Wickas membership. Don went to his final resting place with his Elsternwick cap in his coffin.
Our condolences to Bet, Lisa, Ross, Peta and Ian, families and friends.

We are saddened to inform the Elsternwick CC community of the passing of Ian Marks.
Ian played in the ECC 4ths for a number of seasons and went onto represent Australia in over age cricket.
Ian was the very proud father of 1st XI player and committee member Brad and grandfather to ECC junior players Ethan, Brandon and Portia.
In his time at the club, Ian was a great contributor and formed many friendships.
Our thoughts are with Brad and the Marks family at this very sad time.
Please see below funeral details for those wishing to attend.
The club will be represented by a number of past and present players.

Walking to the crease in a grand final at 5-17, Hunter Griffin peeled off 82 from 164 balls in a match winning innings last Sunday in the 4th XI Grand Final. Brutal on anything short, Hunter was at first patient before accelerating to help the 4s to a 8-241 which would prove to be enough. Well batted H!
It was a family affair on the weekend, with two sets of brothers saluting in the 4th XI Grand Final. Congrats to Gilly and Sunny Joshi, and Sandy and Sanuka Gunatilake!
Highlights from Josh Herdman's 4-33 off 16.4 overs in a match winning performance in the 4th XI grand final at the weekend. Enjoy!

With 4 senior mens teams marching into finals, there are few more proud, or more deserving of recognition, than our President who is this week’s Volunteel of the week.
Knakkers is not just a great player, leading the club in centuries made (19) and second in games played (over 400!), but he has been a long serving committee member and president for the past decade. Working tirelessly off the field, John is a true legend of Victorian Cricket. Thanks for all that you do JD!
With thanks to for their support of the volunteer who drive our club.
MILESTONE ALERT
Last round against Brighton, Sam ‘The Aura’ Groves brought up his 100th senior match for the Eels!
Described as having the best batting technique in the club, and once bowling a sub 1 minute over with his fast right arm off spin, Sam has been a more than handy contributor in the past decade both on and off the field. Congrats on the ton Grovesy!
With thanks to

The man, the myth and definitely the legend, this week’s Volunteel of the week is .thompson.12, who did a power of work behind the screens (pun intended) to get our first ever outdoor Movie Night off the ground. More to come to wrap up this event, but for now, congrats and thank you H!
