Tales from the OFK

Well, after such a tremendous showing last Saturday against a powerful Moorabbin side that included Nemani Nadolo, with 2's being just pipped at the post and 1's getting a hard fought but deserved victory. Spirits were high after the game and the clubhouse was rocking.

The WW and I decided that we had better take a little extra care and tenderness over the Thursday supper, so with judicious use of some remaining ingredients and some good technical pointers from the WW, we turned out two large trays of cottage pie, which was just sufficient for the numbers last night. The special that we made for one of the boys, no dairy, was not used as he had Covid/Flu/manflu or some other such thing, so we sent it home to him, via Rhys bach. Now this special was cooked up in one of my wifes' trays, so I need it back. I warned Rhys to pass the message on that if the boys think I'm scary, they wont want my wife chasing them for a kitchen tray!

We have a week off next week with it being Aus vs Wales in Melb on the Saturday and we are down to the last three suppers after that, so the WW and I will put our heads together and try and come up with something special!

See you all at Uni on Sat.

TC

Round 10 Results vs Moorabbin (Home)

Our first grade have notched their first win of the season in a hard-fought game against Moorabbin Rams Rugby Football Club

The second grade battled hard in a close game but unfortunately fell short in the final few minutes losing by three points.

Unfortunately, we could not put out a third grade team this week due to last minute difficulties.

Looking forward to next week away to Melbourne University Rugby Football Club

Tales from the OFK

Well TC is back after a long awaited break with the other half in Thailand and now we're back in the cold and rain.

In my absence the kitchen has been ably manned by the WW and Rick the Scouse (we spent most of last week counting the pieces of cutlery to see how many were missing). First up was a selection of the excess that had been frozen, tarted up a bit to look and taste different, a roaring success by all accounts. This was followed up a week later by a Spagh Bog, all concocted by the WW, again he tells me it was a roaring success that he believes that in the OFK posts, he should be referred to as MM (Michelin Moran) or an upside down WW. A straw poll of the boys last night indicated that MM is perhaps wishful thinking, but he did front up with it on the following Saturday and the Irish boys from Powerhouse were particularly taken with it.

Last night we were back to the chicken curry, toned down somewhat after the WW's previous comments about arses and Japanese flags. We also used up the remnants of the first curry which we had frozen, all went down well. However we had no takeaway sales, Alex wasn't there and Gary had other things on his mind.

Next week we will be rotating back to the cottage pie. It went down well first off, so hopefully we will get a repeat thumbs up. I will be preparing a personalised one for one lucky player, who shall remain nameless.

Good luck on Saturday, both the WW and I will be there to shout you all on, so good luck

TC.

Tales from the OFK

Well it's good to see that some old favourites never go out of vogue. Baked spuds and beans, along with a quality Cumberland sausage was well received by the small numbers that attended training. The WW was very keen to put on the C. sausage and fair play to him, he bought them at a very good price, which is just as well because their standard retail price would put them well outside our supper budget. Good to see some more Quenchies getting in and buying a supper, the more I can sell, the easier it is on club finances and the closer my Penang holiday gets! .

So the discussion now moves onto next Thursday's supper offering. At this stage I'm inclined to make a chile con carne, served with chips, but don't bank on it at this early stage.

Quins on Sat, so let's give them what we can and we'll be shouting from the sideline, so good luck.

Here is how our 1st Grade lines up in the Lewis Leaumoana Trophy clash against Endeavour Hills Rugby Union Football Club.

"Lewis Leaumoana was a gentle giant off the field, but on the field he was a BEAST!! Everyone who came up against him knew how good he was and was always keeping an eye out for him in defence. Having played alongside Lewis for many years it was a great honour and privilege to run out side by side. Gone too soon but never ever forgotten!"

Get down to the Frog Hollow Reserve to support the Broncos in memory of Lewis and everything he stood for.

Tales from the OFK

Well the chicken curry appeared to go down well last night and the WW excelled himself, producing the rotis and the pappadums (note to the committee, that microwave we have in the kitchen does not have the power of a wet fart) consequently the WW ended up cooking the pappadums at home. He phoned me earlier this a.m. saying his arse looked like a Japanese flag, but with his heritage being from N England, I can only assume weak microbes in the gut, which are probably hereditary and nothing to do with the curry.
Alex set a club record last night being the first person ever, to buy a takeaway meal from the club, he was quickly followed by Gary, who not to be outdone, bought two takeaway meals. Well done lads, much appreciated. At this rate, we'll be doing Ubereats before we turn round (or as we we say in W Wales, no * #@%ing chance).
What's on next week? Well I'm tossing up between, good bangers, baked spud and spicy baked beans, or a full suite roast beef, with a raspberry roulade and custard for dessert, please put your preference in the comments below. (Not that it will have the slightest influence on the meal)
Enjoy the game on Sat, we'll be there on the touchline urging you on. Other than that see you all on Thursday.

Tales from the OFK (Old Farts Kitchen)

Well last night was the first supper gig for my old mate the Wigan Wanderer and myself to cook supper for the boys after training. Now Wigan is supposedly famous?? for its pies, according to my mate, but last night he came up with a more modern and mouthwatering pie, then I have ever had in Wigan. Perhaps it was the quality ingredients or the loving care he put into every stir of his mix, whatever it was, it turned out well and all seemed to enjoy it. It has certainly caused a stir amongst the pie cognoscenti in Wigan and perhaps will go down into pie history as one that moved the goalposts, a bit like glass coffins, remains to be seen.

"Subliminal message coming"
We would like to receive a $2 donation on Thursdays if you are able as this eases greatly the financial burden on the club and also greatly assists with funding my annual trip to Penang.😁 Also it is clear some of the boys are not too domesticated, make sure you scrape your remains into the bin, prior to putting your dirty plates into the dishwasher. End of subliminal message.

What's in store for next Thursday? Well there is a strong possibility that I will be able to resurrect my old Grandad's chicken curry recipe. This was given to him as part payment for a coracle that he was building in Llechryd, by some random Indian Maharajah, who was on a walking tour in Wales. It consists of tender succulent chicken in a beautiful mixture of secret herbs and spices, fragrant Basmati rice and if the budget stretches to it papadams. (see subliminal message above)

Have a good game on Sat, hopefully with a win and hopefully you will hear me from the sideline, if not see you all again on Thursday.
