Today is the very first International Day of Play!
Syndal Preschool have long been advocates for the importance of play in children's lives. Today we celebrate how wonderful it is, and continue to fight for every child's right to free, joyful play 😊🌿

Some commonsense comments from Maggie Dent about putting less stress upon ourselves during the Festive Season. EG: Your kids don't care if your dinner plates don't match your serviettes. They just want to eat yummy food surrounded by people they love. Simple.

Why we should ditch the perfect Christmas We often spend the Christmas period colour-coordinating a tree and matching our dinner plates to our serviettes. But maybe we would actually enjoy the holiday more if we stopped trying to be perfect.

Syndal Preschool is run by a Committee of Management which consists of parents of children who attend the Preschool. The AGM includes elections for the Committee of Management for 2024. We encourage all parents/caregivers consider nominating for a position on the Committee - no experience necessary! Please see attached Committee position descriptions for details, nomination process available prior and on the night. The Committee meets once a month during the school year.

Information packs for the 2024 preschool year will be distributed and discussed.

Why do 3 year old kinder?

Benefits for children attending TWO years of kindergarten -
3 year old & 4 year old

A child who has attended two years of a quality kindergarten program will, on average:
• have better cognitive and social skills when they start school (including better development in language, pre-reading, early number concepts, non-verbal reasoning, independence, concentration and social skills)
• have higher exam scores at 16, including better grades in English and maths
have more developed social and emotional outcomes at age 16
• be more likely to take more final year exams and to go on to higher academic study

Kindergarten Open Night - For 2024 enrolments

Syndal Preschool will be participating in the City of Monash Open Night.
This is a great opportunity for families to explore your local kindergartens, meet some of our marvelous educators and discuss the quality programs each kindergarten has to offer, before finalising your group selections for 2024.

If your child turns three or four years old by 30 April next year they can attend kindergarten.
Registrations for first-round offers are open until 30 June 2023.

Today is Australia Reads Hour!
Reading and storytelling with babies and children promotes brain development and imagination, develops language and emotions, and strengthens relationships.
Sometimes you can read. And sometimes you can look at picture books, sing songs or tell stories from your culture.
Babies and young children often enjoy books, songs and stories with good rhyme, rhythm and repetition.
Anytime is a good time for a book or story!

Try to share at least one book or story each day.

Don’t worry if English isn’t your child’s first language. Being bilingual actually helps your child learn English when they start playgroup, kindergarten or school.

Dual-language books are a great resource, and many children’s books are published in two languages. If you speak a language other than English at home, reading dual-language books with your child might also help you become more familiar with English.

They will be officially handed out to all the enrolled 3-year-old children on Wednesday 8th March by the honorable John Mullahy our Local Member of Parliament - Glen Waverley. Kinder Kits for 2023 have officially dropped.

Each item has been selected to help new three-year-old kinder starters continue their play-based learning at home.

They're 100% locally made, so each pack is helping Victorian businesses too.

And the best bit - they're completely free, just like Kinder this year.

Syndal Preschool offers free books for you to borrow, read and return. Reading to your child every day has so many benefits to your child and for you!

• Four-year-old interviews Tuesday 31st January 2023
• Three-year-old interviews Wednesday 1st February 2023

Your Enrolment Pack will have your designated interview time.
Please arrive 5 minutes earlier.
Your child is welcome to attend with you.
The interview will take about 45 minutes. A group information session and a private chat.
They can meet the teachers and can have a short play to assist in becoming acquainted with the centre.

Kindergarten sessions will begin
• Thursday 2nd February Blue and Yellow 4-year-old groups
• Friday 3rd February Blue and Red 4-year-old groups
• Monday 6th February Green 3-year-old groups

To all Syndal Preschool Community.
We wanted to inform you about the Melbourne Water Pipeworks that are currently occurring in our neighbourhood.

Melbourne Water is replacing three aging sections of the M22 and M46 water mains between Mitcham and Syndal.
Over the month of January, the works will go through the kindergarten outdoor area and aims to be completed before the term begins. We are working with Melbourne Water to ensure that this isn't an inconvenience to the operation of the preschool. The playground will be restored and ready for day one Term 1 2023.

M22-M46 Mitcham to Syndal water mains renewal | Melbourne Water We’re replacing three aging sections of the M22 and M46 water mains between Mitcham and Syndal.

We are looking forward to meeting our current 2022 families and our future - 2023 families at our Picnic at the kindergarten on Friday evening. The forecast is for no rain so we are hoping for a fine and fun get together. Bring a picnic rug or chair and a take away picnic and enjoy our wonderful outdoor space and of course great company!

Lantern Show at Mt Waverley Community Cenre, 24/6/2022.
There is a Lantern show organised by the City of Monash. The show runs nightly from 5pm to 9:30 pm until 28/6/2022.
The lanterns are displayed on the lawn outside the Mount Waverley Community Centre at Miller Road, next to Mt Waverley train station.
The colourful lanterns depict some of the animals and creatures in the Australia outback. All are magnificent.

Fun and Fitness - It has been a bit rainy but that doesn't stop the children from participating in our Syndal Gym program. Starting with balancing along a beam, a turn on the wobble board, through the tunnel, a pencil roll along the mat and then a roll on the scooter board to the finish line. Keeping fit, challenging our sense of balance and building up our muscles.
You could set up something similar at home. Balance along a piece of string. Stand and wobble on a big cushion. Crawl under the table. Pencil roll along the mat/carpet. Maybe creep on your tummy to the finish line. Come up with some more challenges!

There are many benefits of movement exploration and physical activity to a child’s development. Research has highlighted the importance of early movement experiences on healthy brain development stemming from the stimulation of neural
