ONLINE PHYSIO & GYM ACCESS

We've been working on this behind the scenes but we're ready to properly launch our newest offering!

You see online programming in the training world all the time and we'd like to extend that to individualised app based Physiotherapy rehabilitation programming.

This is for you if you:

• Have an injury that primarily needs consistent, progressive exercise rehabilitation treatment plans.

• Live remotely or work FIFO.

• Want or need an added layer of support, coaching and accountability without having to come in to sessions multiple times a week.

• Want help to make changes to your overall health and lifestyle but are struggling to do this one your own.

• Are a coach and have a client that needs Physiotherapy input into their online programming - we work with coaches from all over the country and world in this way!

If you are based in Perth and don't have a gym membership this also includes access to any of our 3 partner gyms .health.performance while you are working with us 🫶🏼

Once you've graduated from Physiotherapy you are more than welcome to sign up with them after seeing how wonderful they are 🥹

What you can expect to see walking into our clinic in Osborne Park.

Unlike a lot of traditional physiotherapy clinics, our rooms are located within a gym, with plenty of space and equipment.

CLASS & SEMI-PRIVATE TIMETABLE

Our Physio designed and run classes are designed to help improve mobility, strength and body awareness either to complement your current training and exercise program or as part of your Physiotherapy treatment with us.

We are inspired by the worlds of gymnastics, yoga, functional training and strength & conditioning with each class drawing from aspects of these with a different focus on the type of training or area of the body.

We also run smaller semi-private Physio sessions (Gymnastic Mobility and 50+ Strength Club) that are organised based on similar conditions and injuries. These are flexible are more easily individualised for a range of different issues.

For the classes shown here the more 🌶’s the harder the class!

For more information on each and to book in visit our website:

A little reminder for those coming back from injuries to make sure you're also modifying your volume (reps and sets) and speed / complexity of movements.

We see people going lighter (which is good), but then replacing the load with a million more reps.

Your injured part still needs to regain endurance and nervous system functions, and going for longer / faster even at light loads can sometimes stress it out more than if you just did a lightly heavier, more controlled set.

One rough guideline you can use to see if you've actually reduced your total load is:

Total load x Total reps

EXAMPLE:

If your original session would have been 3 x 3 x 100kg = 900kg
You drop the weights back to ~70% / 70kg, but then bump up the volume to 3 x 5 because it feels easy, your overall load is now 1050kg (17% more than your original session).

If you want to still feel like you are working hard, rather opt for a movement that biases the un-injured parts. e.g an RDL rather than a squat if you're coming back from a knee injury.

Let us know if you need individualised help, or chat to the coaches before class so they can help rein you in when you feel pressured to keep going hard 🙏🏼

〰️ Love the game 〰️

Do you remember playing Super Mario Bros? Or really, any other game.

Do you remember the parts where you were close to losing, or the final boss you struggled for weeks or months to beat?

Those levels were hard, but you were likely only playing those games because they had this sweet spot of difficulty. Games that are too easy are no fun.

Sometimes it can be helpful to think of life like that, one big game full of never ending problems to solve and levels to beat. Gradually working our way up to save our metaphorical Princess Peach.

Problems are an inevitable part of life, there will always be stressful situation, and to wish that all your problems were easy, or that you no longer had any stress, is to wish to be perpetually bored, or dead.

Obviously there are times when these problems are a bit beyond our capacity, and the game is no longer fun, at which time you might need to ask for help (a topic for another post!)

But for the everyday stuff it’s necessary to accept this inevitability, and try to approach it as just another challenge or a real life boss you need to beat:

Some of those inevitabilities might be:

⚡️Injuries
⚡️A PB that’s eluded you for months
⚡️Difficult situations at work
⚡️A million things on your to do list
⚡️An upcoming exam
⚡️Taxes

And while you could quit the hard stuff and try hanging out in comfort, no one ever played Super Mario and didn’t bother trying to get past the first level.

We’re not just here to tick your homework off.

We understand that staying on track with rehab exercises, particularly when you are in pain and not feeling your best, is not easy.

Chances are if you haven’t done your exercises this week, pushing things back another week will just mean another week of procrastination.

Our sessions are to keep you accountable and often to get you doing the rehab and training with us which jump starts your motivation (hello endorphins) to keep going on your own again 👌🏼

A warm welcome to Mark, our newest import! 🔥

Mark is originally from Ireland, but has spent the last few years traveling and working as a Physio (most recently in NZ), and has made the great decision to settle in good old Perth, and we are super excited to bring him on board!

Mark currently coaches, trains and competes in CrossFit, but grew up playing elite level Gaelic football. He has also competed at national championships in gymnastics & cross country running and has a vast experience treating athletes in these areas as well as rugby and football *cough* soccer ⚽️ 😁

Combining firsthand knowledge of training and injuries, along with his Physio experience and his certification in NASM - Performance Enhancement (similar to Strength & Conditioning), he is the perfect fit for taking you from injury all the way back to training or competing at whatever level you desire 🏃🏻‍♀️🤸🏽‍♂️🏋🏽‍♀️⛹🏼‍♂️

His approach incorporates the full realm of the Physio toolkit, from massage, dry needling and exercise rehab, to focus on your whole self with promotion of healthy sleep, diet and mental health.

You can book online with Mark via our website: www.formotionphysio.com.au/appointments

He is currently available from our West Perth clinic but watch this space for more!

Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI), or leaking/feeling like you are going to leak during exercise, is a super common issue in women of all ages, whether you've had kids or not.

It is even more common in higher impact sport like Crossfit and field sport, usually noticed most with things like double unders, running, taking knocks in sport or max lifts.

It can also often be treated with retraining of the pelvic floor and modifications to exercise technique.

But while it may be common, it shouldn’t be considered normal and it is recommended to treat it where possible to reduce the risk of worsening symptoms or other issues developing.

Send us an email if you need any help with this or visit

We are very excited to re-introduce , now as an offical part of our Physio team!

She will be taking appointments from this week and is available across our 3 locations inside , and .health.performance.

The first thing I noticed about her, even when we met her a couple of years ago as Physio student, was what a warm and thoughtful approach she has, which is particularly helpful for anyone struggling with chronic pain. Or if you are someone who needs a more empathetic ear to help navigate stress and all the other things that might get in the way of recovery ❤️

Lorena has a background in Strength & Conditioning training and coaching and has already been working as a coach with beginners and athletes in Crossfit, weightlifting and similar training styles so knows all about the ways you can injure yourselves and how to bridge the gap between Physio and training to get you back as quickly as possible.

To welcome her and help her get to know you all we are doing a special offer for Physio consultations for the next couple of weeks.

These can also be used for general massage treatment if you don’t have anything specifically injured and just need a bit of maintenance!

Too book head to our website or send us a text/email☺️

Recently someone asked whether it was too late for her ankle, which she had badly sprained around 6 months before, to still be improved to the point that she could handle her demanding work as a dance teacher 💃🏽

She had done a bit of early stage rehabilitation initially, but it was still feeling quite unstable and painful after she did too much dancing and she was getting to the disheartening stage where she felt like it would never get better. She was then feeling guilty that she had not done enough when she first did it.

This is such a common story, and one that is so sad to hear because in reality there is still so much you can do to improve months/years on from an injury.

We’ve lost count of the times we’ve had a client with a years old injury they’ve ignored, which for whatever reason they’ve decided to work on and had their life and the things they love to do given back to them 💜

Your body is likely more adaptable and resilient than you might think when you give it the right environment and chance to change!

And in equally exciting news we’re also stoked to welcome our newest Physio Jess | to the team!

Jess is an Australian Javelin Thrower (or javelinist…. just not javelin player!!😅) and is a whizz with all things lifting/running/throwing/jumping.

We’ll be putting her across all 3 sites in West Perth, Osborne Park & Joondalup so jump on our website to book in with her 💪🏼

To get to know her a little more in her own words:

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hi, I’m Jess!

I am so excited to be working at after graduating with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. I have wanted to be a physio from a very young age after witnessing the benefits of therapy for my sister who has a neurological disability. Growing up I was fascinated with anatomy and how our bodies worked. It wasn’t long before I discovered the beauty of sport and learned firsthand the profound role physio can play in helping athletes rehabilitate and perform.

My biggest passion is helping people find joy in movement. I love helping patients learn how to move their body in order to prevent injury and optimize performance. As a young athlete, a whole new world was opened to me once I learned how to squat, jump and run correctly and I hope I can help others appreciate what their bodies can do.

When I’m not in the clinic, I am training full time as an international javelin thrower. I’ve been lucky enough to represent Australia on multiple occasions and hope I can use my knowledge to help others achieve their goals.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

We are SO excited to announce that we now have a 3rd home in Joondalup, inside the amazing .health.performance , and also sharing with new friends

We’re now up and running (with another exciting announcement incoming!) and ready to help any of you injured far Northerners!

Come and visit us to get fixed, and get your coffee fix from while you are at it ☕️🤍

When was your last break? 😴

It seems like a lot of people are hitting those overwhelming moments where you can’t figure out whether you need to work 24 hours straight to get “on top of things”, or pack it all in and move to Alaska!

It can be helpful to remind yourself that a rest, whether that’s 15mins away from your desk, or a month holiday, is the only thing that will calm your nervous system back down, think clearer and allow you to get your excitement back for that thing you know you love, and don’t really want to throw away at all!

We talk a lot about the importance of rest and deload weeks in the context of training.
But it wasn’t until I started doing some mentoring with , where we are told to schedule in holidays and personal time before anything else as part of running a sustainable business, that it really clicked.

Resting, and planning your rest before you get to that tipping/quitting point, is the best thing you can do for your own mental health, your goals, and the people that you are seeking to help.

So if you were needing one, take this as your sign to go book that time off! 🏝

RED-S "Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport" is a syndrome which requires a medical diagnosis and multidisciplinary management.

The best thing you can do if you are a coach, athlete or anyone who works with athletes, particularly those in elite, individual sports in a high pressure environment, is to understand the condition and be aware of the risks and signs.

The early detection and management is crucial for preventing long term health issues.

An old favourite for opening up your shoulders and thoracic.

A perfect balance of stretch + strength into end range.

And your partner gets a sweet bicep pump at the same time 😏

Lifting heavy weights is cool, but so is finally getting enough hip mobility to bend down to get your shoe on after years of issues!

has had 2 hip replacement revisions, one of which didn't go so well, so over the past few years was at the point where he could barely touch his foot because of how stiff the hip was, let alone lunge to the ground to put a shoe on.

Since December he's worked incredibly hard on his mobility and strength with us and with / and the other day managed to get to this point 🥳

Watch this space for our next goal of getting into a (wet) wetsuit 😮‍💨 and most likely getting onto some heavier lifts with Seb 🤌🏼

Gosh we love our clients!

So impressed by this power couple (in CrossFit terms 👀) who competed over the weekend at Gamesday.

You two both work so incredibly hard and we are so proud we get to help you stay fixed, lifting and gym-nasty (intentional this time Nikki😉).

We’ve got your backs so keep on doing what you’re doing 🏋🏽🤸🏼‍♀️🤍

Hey everyone, Lucia here 👋🏼 If you love a chance to reflect and a mental fresh start then New Years Eve is also probably one of your favourite days!

2021 was hard for a lot of people, but the best thing about hard things is all the lessons and changes they bring, as well as those sweet long highs which we’ve recently learnt about.

So, to finish off the year, and for the next few weeks, here are some lessons the team and I have learnt, forgotten, relearnt and will continue to try to understand more deeply!

Number 1, fittingly, is all about how good discomfort is for us. We’ve known for a while that all the things that change us for the better are rarely easy or comfortable: a hard training sesh, getting better at public speaking, breaking a bad habit, owning a small business in the midst of lockdowns!

But it is also good, and extremely validating being an evidence based profession🤓, to know that there is a whole lot of science behind how, and why, leaning into those uncomfortable and scary things also give us a longer lasting sense of wellbeing, often more so than the quick hits of the nice and comfortable things.

Think about how good you feel after finishing those particularly gross sessions, and how even though talking in front of people terrifies you, you still probably walked around on a high for ages after just for doing it. Turns out there are neurochemical mechanisms behind it all, ’s talks on dopamine touches on the this (HIGHLY recommend).

There are also studies that show an increased level of happiness/wellbeing in societies after coming out the other side of tumultuous events (wars/natural disasters etc).

So, if 2020/2021 bit you quite hard on the 🍑, or you are still feeling like you’re going through a particularly tough time, try to keep going knowing that the other side is likely full of great changes, and even if it isn’t the experience itself is still going to be good for you!

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.” - (possibly) Winston Churchill

See you all in the New Year and as always, thank you for trusting us with your bodies and minds and supporting us in the process.

Much love - The Formotion Team ❤️
