Ever year at Max Health we try and provide an opportunity for you to give to those who have a little less at Christmas.

This has normally been gifting presents for kids however, food had become an even greater need as times for many are tougher than ever.

So we are helping you give if you are able. We will be taking the leg work out of it for you by delivering your food donations to those directly in need.

The Pantry is a not for profit organisation that help to get fresh fruit and vegetables to those in need on a daily basis. However they also take much needed time off over the Christmas period so for 2 weeks the overwhelming need for food must be met.

The Pantry have supplied us with a list of non perishable items that are needed to be provided with their fresh items to ensure meals can be made by familes for a 2 week period over the festive season.

If you are able to fill the list or get together with a friend or 2 to fill a list this will feed a family. However any items from the list would be greatly appreciated

We have provided bags and the list within the clinic if you need or the list is attached here and in on our social media highlights button

We ask that you please return your donations and wonderful gift of giving by the 28th of November to ensure they can be delivered on time.

Thank you for anything you feel you are able to give. 💙

Absolutely!!! Dream it up, write it down, break up the process into steps then jump on that first step.

If health, energy, mindset, physical pain, mobility, endurance, flexibility, immunity, sleep or anything health related are in your way talk to us about it.

Enabling you to make your dreams come to life is part our job description 💙

Did you know we also treat athletes?
Performance optimisation is an area of Soft Tissue Occupational Therapy that works to optimise the function of your musculoskeletal system.
By maximising neural signal muscles can recieve optimal information to and from the brain for clean presice functional output... Think contract and release faster, better balance, more rapid cleaning for longer activity duration.

If your muscles, tendons and ligaments work in there most optimal way your body can produce movement in the most optimal way....

This seems like such a simple thing to do, yet for many of us it is so difficult 🙋‍♀️

Taking care of yourself is the pathway to fulfillment and to high performance in work and in life.
And
Just as importantly, its a gift to others.
When your needs are met and you feel good about yourself, its easier to elevate the needs of other people in front of your own...

This post is a gentle reminder for me and hopefully you to 💙

3 Areas You Should Get Checked to Get the Most Out of Your Surfing
Autumn is here and for Perth that means the days are still and the surf is looking good!
If you’re new to surfing or a decade-long veteran looking to take a surf trip to the South West – here are 3 areas of your body to make sure are in top notch to get the most out of your sessions:

Shoulders. Your paddling power can be the deciding factor for getting up on that last wave or missing out. Having strong, mobile shoulders is also essential for a quality pop-up. The crouched posture of surfing, and the pulling motion during paddling, over time can cause your shoulders to lose their mobility, potentially leading to pain. By maintaining your shoulder mobility, you can maximise your strength to improve your surfing.

Hips. We know about bending your knees to keep your balance – but what about using your hips for building up speed along the wave or simply getting your foot on the board before you even stand up? Having flexible hips are essential for positioning your body correctly to allow better power and reduce stress on your lower back and knees (which have less ability to move due to the nature of the joint). Your hips have many layers of muscle to allow you to generate dynamic power for your turns and, if you’re lucky, holding yourself in a barrel.

Neck: Once you’ve had a few near-death wipe-outs or had your board smack into your head one too many times – you should get your neck checked, but for even the small wave surfers your neck plays a vital role in your overall performance. The nerves that supply your “upper self” (think shoulders, upper back, chest, arms and hands), start in your neck. If your neck is affected, the nerve signals are not as strong, resulting in poorer strength, muscle activation and sensation. It’s also important to note that the nerves at the very top of your spine can affect your balance centres if they are not working optimally.
If you’d like to know more about how we can help improve your performance give us a call or book online to make an appointment

Are your kids legs straight?
This may be an odd question but we are seeing a rise in the number of children in and around schools, in the communty and playing sport who are suffering from tight or loose muscle imbalance in the legs.

This can look like turned in knees, feet that rotate outward or inward, the pelvis or the lower back looking stiff or immobile when walking or running, the walking step looking tight or lacking in free flowing swing...

Many of these imbalances can be easily improved.

With correct alignment of the lower limbs children can be in less pain, have more endurance, perform better in sport and be at less risk of injury or longer term damage to muscle and joint structures.

If your unsure if your child's legs need some support through growth ask us.

Does anyone else feel the power of this?

It seems so obvious... but not always so easy to put into practice, especially in this fast paced life where everything can feel like a distraction from what your true values and goals are.

The power of positive thinking and positive action towards anything weather it be your health, your goals, your mindset is so valuable...

Picking the top 1-3 things you want to give your attention and energy to everyday helps keep you focused and clear on whats important...

Yesterday was World Sleep Day... I'm not sure how i missed it! Sleep is personally one of my favourite things, although it is easy for this to get out of balance with stress, disturbed lifestyle routines, pain and psychology all potentially playing a role....

Sleep is something we consider with every patients, it is an important determiner to energy and healing.

Taking a holistic look at your health is one of our secret weapons...

This is Ros our newest OT waiting for a wave... would you be comfortable sitting out there?

Sitting and waiting for the right wave can be frustrating and test your patience – but you should never be waiting in frustration for your pain to go away! Pain can sometimes feel like it comes and goes in waves, but if there is consistent “swell” over the years it may be an underlying cause that has never been dealt with properly. It’s never too late to start your journey towards living without pain!

Come see one of our experienced Soft Tissue Occupational Therapists to learn more about how you can free your body from pain and enjoy the life you want

3 Common Reasons for Lower Back Pain and What You Can Do About It

1. Overuse
There are many areas where you can over use your back such as manual labour jobs or domestic work. Over time the awkward postures you are in may lead to excess loading on your lower back, causing it to become weak and painful

2. Injury
Sustaining an acute injury during sports or an accident may cause trauma to the muscles and ligaments in your lower back, causing pain and inflammation.

3. Structural or Functional Changes
Our bodies all grow differently and our lives are all individual. In some cases there can be structural changes during growth spurts where the bones don’t grow evenly and can cause excess strain on other areas such as the lower back. Functional changes (such as consistently carrying a bag or child on one side of your body) can also lead to uneven loading on the lower spine, resulting in pain.

How we can help at Max Health:
Soft Tissue Occupational Therapy is very useful in easing low back pain and allows people to get back to the quality of life they might have been missing out on due to pain. Getting treatment for your lower back pain means less reliance on pain medication, less days off work, reduced chance of injury reoccurrence and better performance in sports. If you’d like to know more about how we can help get you moving better, give us a call to book an appointment.

Every symptom is a gift! I love this insight for so many reasons...

to the person experiencing the symptoms it helps bring perspective and thanks to our bodies signs and signals and reminds us that our bodies are very clever at telling us what we need and what is wrong if we dare to listen.

To the practitioner is gives us a road map and clues to working out what system and which parts need healing for symptom relief and disease management.

The strangest looking theraputic technique but oh so effective in creating space, balancing and mobilising the complexity of the wrist once it has been correctly managed musculoskeletally.

There are 8 carpal bones in the wrist each named for its's unique shape.

They need to work in unison for smooth painfree range of movement.

07/02/2022

It doesn’t have to be a dream…

There are various reasons the body produces a pain response on movement.

Sometimes you need to address one reason sometimes you need to address a few… the key is to have the tools to decider which to address, and if needed how to address multiple areas of concern.

02/02/2022

The forarm muscles can be key to unlocking pain in the wrist, hand and elbow.

They can also contribute to issues in the upper arm shoulder and upper body postures.

We use these muscles extensively to position the hand and wrist as well as for presision of the fingers....
For example, in the next sms you type.

The the main function of the cervical spine is to support the weight of the head, (approximately 4.5kgs) and allow for the heads movment for optimal function of the eyes, nose, ears and mouth.

The neck has seven cervical vertebrae, two of which are specialized in shape to connect to skull.

Our body is the most amazing jigsaw under the skin! Keeping all of the pieces healthy and functioning will reduce pain and ensure your feeling your best now and in the future.

What do you do to keep at your best?
