The channel 81 repeater at Rat Island is currently being monitored 24/7 by Marine Rescue Whitfords / VJ6LQ until further notice.

Due to erosion problems, the Antenna Mast at Point Moore, Geraldton has had to be dismantled.
Through the magic of DFES’s Radio over Internet Protocol (RoIP) Network, M.R. Whitfords is able to be connected electronically with the new antenna site on the Moresby Ranges.
Channels 16, 72 & 82 are still being monitored by Marine Rescue Geraldton as per their normal schedule.

The Department of Transport have recently announced some changes in recreational vessel safety equipment requirements 🚤 ⚓️

New stronger safety equipment laws for recreational vessels are coming. ⛵
🚤 Transitioning to GPS enabled EPIRBs and personal locator beacons
🚤 EPIRBs or PLBs will become mandatory for all vessels more than 400m from shore in unprotected waters.
🚤 Mandatory wearing of lifejackets more than 400m from shore in unprotected waters dependant on age and vessel size
🚤 Carriage of lifejackets on all registerable vessels in all waters
🚤 Simplifying safety equipment requirements for registrable and non-registrable vessels

Current rules for non-registerable vessel including paddle craft, kite surfers, sailboards and small sailing craft, will remain largely unchanged.

The above changes are planned to be implemented for the 2022/23 boating season.
