KILLEEN SINKS THE PIRATES
Luke Killeen has top scored for his Oxford Cheetas Championship team with an outstanding 11+3, coming ever so close to a paid maximum
The Cheetas dominated Poole Pirates at their home track to come away with the aggregate point in a 49-41 win, which ended Poole's long streak of 42 wins at home
This performance further cements Luke's place in the Spires premiership team and just adds to the impressive list of achievements this season

McDIARMID FINISHES ON A HIGH
In his final meeting for the European season before heading home, Mitch McDiarmid has roared to an impressive 11+1 for his Zielona Gora team in the polish u24 Ekstraliga
Mitch turned up to a track he had never seen before and absolutely turned the dial up to help his team to an emphatic 56:34 victory
With a 1st place in his opening ride, followed by another 1st place and then a 2nd place* (5-1 bonus point), Mitch was on for another Maxiumum haul. His 4th heat saw him hit the first turn in last place, but immediately put his rear tyre in the dirt where the angels fear to tread. He rocketed around 2 riders and up to 2nd place before a slight mistake saw him lose control and nearly turn the bike backward before skilfully retrieving it and crossing the line in 4th. His next ride was a comfortable 1st place. If not for that tiny mistake, he would have been on for another clean sweep
Mitch will be returning back to Australia this weekend while his team continues the remainder of their season without him. It's important to remember that Mitch is only 16 years of age, and he initially was only supposed to be in Poland for a week or 2 before this short contract opportunity arose.
There are calls already for Mitch to be promoted to the top team when available at Zielona Gora, but for now, he will focus on his summer season at Pinjar Park, continue with his training and then get ready for a big 2025.
ON THE CUSP: MATT MARSON
This week we have highlighted some of our home grown talent who are making their way in the world of professional speedway racing. Now it's time to take a closer look at former WA State Champion, Matt Marson, and how his season is unfolding:
Matt currently rides for Belle View Colts in the National Development League. This is a tough series with very little opportunity to showcase your skill amongst a plethora of young up and coming speedway stars. This season has been tougher than previous years due to a calendar change, drastically reducing the number of races per season.
Talking to Matt earlier this year, he was 50/50 on whether he would go back to the UK for another season due to the high cost and limited opportunity to ride. Thankfully, he had the support of his club at Belle View and decided to take the plunge in the hopes that further opportunities would arise once the season got underway. So far, Matt has impressed while riding for his Colts team, often scoring 8 or 9 points. He is one of the more experienced riders in the league and that is for sure helping him and his younger team mates during the league fixtures.
Aside from his NDL team, Matt has been competing in the National League Riders Development Series, which is a standalone championship for the top riders in NDL. Matt has come away with good results scoring around 8 or 9 points and finishing in 6 or 7th.
Add in some guest rides and practices whenever he gets a chance, and it's clear to see that Matt is working hard and knocking on the door of that vital next step into a championship team. As the Headline indicates, Matt is right on the cusp of breaking into a serious racing career, and he just needs one opportunity to show what he can do.
It's safe to say that Matt will return to Pinjar this summer with a renewed confidence and speed to match, so we can't wait to see how this upcoming season unfolds with so many travelling and new riders ready to take on the local stalwarts.
TRIPLE THREAT: LUKE KILLEEN
12 months ago, if you had told him that he would be one of the busiest riders in British Speedway, Luke Killeen would have laughed it off. Fast forward to now, and that is very much the case for our current WA State Champion
Luke currently rides in all 3 divisions of British Speedway and, incredibly, all for the same club. That's right, Luke rides for Oxford in 3 different teams:
Oxford Chargers in the National Development League, where he is team captain and top scorer often scoring close to a maximum each meeting
Oxford Cheetahs in the Championship, where he works hard and generally picks up around 5 or 6 points. He rides alongside Pinjar legend Cam Heeps
Oxford Spires in the Premier League where the competition is at the highest level, often competing against and alongside the best riders in the world, including fully fledged Grand Prix riders.
Luke only recently got called up to the top team, thanks to his impressive points hauling for the Chargers and consistent contribution for the middle tier Cheetahs. Luke had the advantage of a low average which enabled him to join the Spires at a reasonably low cost to the team and he has been improving week on week, doing what he was brought there to do; pick up handy points at the bottom of the order.
It wouldn't be easy navigating the travel and commitment of racing in 3 separate leagues, but he has great support from his club, his sponsors (including pinjar supporters, RCA Civil), and his family. Luke's Dad, Frank, played a big part in helping Luke set up for full-time Speedway racing, and his older brother Declan is currently over in the UK helping Luke out as his mechanic.
Luke has a bright future in speedway racing, and he is in the thick of it at the moment, working his butt off and gaining valuable experience alongside the best riders in the World
As we were writing this article, results were coming in from the Oxford Cheetahs championship team where Luke scored a fantastic 8+1 and Cam Heeps scored an equally impressive 7+2 to help their team toward a comfortable win over the Plymoth Gladiators
Good luck for the remainder of the season, and we can't wait to see you back in Perth for Summer
MAXIMUM MITCH
Mitchell McDiarmid scored a fabulous paid maximum 14+1 last night for his u24 Ekstraliga team, Fabulaz Zielona Gora, as they comprehensively defeated Krosno 62-28
For those who are unfamiliar with speedway teams racing, here is a brief explanation of how the points system works:
Each match has 15 heats that comprise of 2 riders from each team. Essentially, it is a 2 on 2 format each race. The points for each race are awarded 3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd and 0 points for 4th. The riders are paid per point that they earn
Riders are rewarded for team riding, whereas if a pairing scores a 1st and 2nd place, the rider in second place is paid a bonus extra point by the club. In this example for Mitch, he scored a second place in one of his rides, but his teammate was in front of him, so this is considered a bonus point and mitch was paid for 3 instead of 2. Mitch scored a maximum number of paid points, i.e., Paid Maximum
Well done Mitch!
Our Busy Bee ๐ scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday 27th July) has been CANCELLED due to the recent rain we've had and works requiring materials to be purchased.

ANOTHER STAR HAS RISEN
Pinjar Park has been the breeding ground for some exception talent over the years, but it has been some time since we have seen such huge potential in one of our junior riders.
Mitchell McDiarmid only turned 16 a couple of months ago and made his senior debut at Perth Motorplex, scoring a maximum. If you have been following Mitch's journey, you won't be surprised at all by that result. Since then, Mitch jetted off to Poland for the Ekstraliga Camp in what would be his first real test with the big boys, being pitted against some of the best young riders in the world. He rode well throughout the week and was unlucky to have a chain break in one of his heats otherwise he would have been in contention for the podium at the main event
Fast forward another week or so and the news broke that Mitch had been signed by Falubaz Zielona Gora in the u24 Polish Ekstraliga!
Mitch's father Marshall has been over in Poland supporting Mitch throughout this journey as well as some help from Tai Woffinden. Speaking to Marshall at the end of the Pinjar season last year, he was careful about not pushing Mitch too quickly into the world of European racing, even though some clubs had already been circling before he had turned laps on a 500cc. The plan was to let Mitch develop for another summer season at Pinjar before turning professional and jetting off to Europe. But as you know, this sport of ours can be unpredictable, so when an opportunity like this presents itself, sometimes you just need to grab the bull by the horns, and that is exactly what Mitch has done.
Mitch's debut for his new club last night against Polish powerhouse Sparta Wroclaw was a successful one for him personally, scoring 6 points total (1,0,3,2) which made him the 3rd highest scorer for his team. Despite a narrow defeat on the night, Mitch's new manager was happy with the teams performance and in particular was singing Mitch's praises.
Congratulations Mitch and Marshall, we will be following closely and can't wait to see you back turning laps at Pinjar Park Speedway
Hi all... a message from our Special Ops Man Chesh ๐คฉ

Whoโs ready for a big 2024/2025?
Pinjar Park Speedway Motorcycle Club WA would like to extend a big Thankyou to our partner Healthway, promoting the Make Smoking History message ๐ญ Over the last two seasons we have had Healthway provide support to our club to educate, raise awareness and encourage healthy lifestyles ๐ Our food vans also came on board with promoting the 'Fuel to Go and Play' by not displaying sugary drinks and supporting healthy choices ๐คฉ We gave our young Junior riders 'Fuel to Go and Play' metal drink bottles supplied by Healthway... Our Hi Vis Vests were seen all around the track and in the pits encouraging a smoke free venue... Our Club Polo Shirts that members and spectators could purchase had the Make Smoking Message printed on the back... Banners were placed around the track for all to see throughout race night... And incorporating the acknowledgment of the Traditional Owners and ongoing Custodians of the land, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. Thankyou Healthway for supporting Pinjar Park Speedway Motorcycle Club WA!
HEEPS BACK TO HIS BEST
Whatever Cameron Heeps had been doing in the off season, it has worked. The Pinjar Park favourite has entered the 2024 British season in scintillating form, scoring at least 8 points in every championship match so far for his Oxford Cheetahs side.
Last night was another dominant performance by the Cheetahs over their Championship rivals, Scunthorpe Scorpions. Cam Heeps was once again one of the top riders, scoring a paid maximum 10+2
Luke Killeen was unlucky with a bad referee decision in heat 7, but still scored 4 points, as he continues to gain valuable experience in the 2nd tier of British speedway. Luke also captains the 3rd tier Oxford Chargers and has been in very good form, often top scoring, and is clearly a class above in that league
It's still early doors for the British season, but Cameron Heeps in particular, is on track for his best season yet. We can't wait to see him come back home for the Summer to light up Pinjar Park Speedway.
Pinjar Park will have to wait for another year ๐ช
What a race from Pinjar favourite, Cam Heeps!
Heeps and his Pinjar team mate, Luke Killeen, got to work in an impressive opening win for their Oxford Cheetahs team in the Championship league
Cameron Heeps finished on 10+2
Luke Killeen finished on 10
Way to go boys, doing WA proud

Josh Wells/Adam Barnes Supreme in Jeff Gittus Memorial at Pinjar ๐
Although entries were small, racing was hard, fast and safe.
The early heats saw the combination of sidecar and solo legends Russell Mitchell and Daniel Wi******er winning their first 3 heats, with Mitch looking to add a fifth trophy for this event to his huge collection.
Other early heat winners were Bob King/Morgan Cornwell and Adam Wenn/Jamie Thomson who were all riding well. Josh Wells with Adam Barnes as passenger were getting quicker with each ride, and took out a fine win in heat 6. They needed victory in the B final to qualify for the main event and they did this easily.
Starting from the outside gate in the final, Josh and Adam took control with an outside run on the first corner and were unchallenged after that. The battle for the placings was spirited with Bob King taking a good second ahead of Mitch and Adam Wenn.
Good luck to both the Wells and Wenn teams in the Aussie Title at Tamworth next month
During the first solo heat I was thinking of superlatives to use to describe the effort of Linkin Metcalf in his first senior meeting. He bolted from the tapes and left top riders Dec Killeen, Kobee Ziedas, Colby Mason and Jack Mc Diarmid well behind. I was feeling a little concerned however as he rode higher each lap entering the main straight, and on the final lap he collected the fence and fell.
This put Linkin out for the night but I know that he will bounce back quickly and show the class that he has next season. We should be in for a treat then with the great crop of teenage stars we have emerging.
Solo heats were won by Declan Killeen, but the final saw what I considered to be the "coming of age" of Kobee Ziedas with his brilliant victory.
Mitch McDiarmid showed the great form that we expect of him in the 250"s however a handicap of half a lap was just a little too much for him and was beaten by Phoenix Elliott in the final.
Jett Harvey came out on top in the 125"s. ( Perfect name for a speedway rider ! )
In the Flat Trackers, Stephen Forrest did something that is rarely seen and that was to beat Des Heys. Des did turn the tables on Stephen however by winning the final and ending the season on a high.
That ends the season for 23/24. It was one of highs and lows as we would expect.
After a quiet start, some new faces behind the scenes worked very hard and are continuing to turn things in the right direction. The new season looks promising for the solo division. Sidecars have struggled with numbers due largely to the huge cost involved in getting bikes on the track, but there are many people dedicated to this division and numbers should improve.
One thing that I will always remember from this season was my sighting of a friendly Bandicoot in the bar area at the last meeting. True story...and no, I had only had one drink.๐
See you in October.
Thankyou Graham Veasey GV Photography for the fantastic photos!

The 2024 Junior entries for The Jeff Gittus Memorial
Jeff Gittus was a loved and respected sidecar competitor who lost his life in a road accident. In honour of Jeff and his commitment to this club we hold the Jeff Gittus Memorial every year.
Date: 16th March 2024
Where: Pinjar Park Speedway, Old Yanchep road Neerabup.
Gates open
Juniors on @4:30pm
Seniors on
Starting with our superstar 50cc demos
Max and Layla Jongeling
These 2 stars have been riding all season in this demo class.
They have learnt how to handle, control and ride safely on a 50cc dirt bike.
The 50cc demos are a non competitive class who go on track for 2mins.
We are always open to adding new talent so if your child is bike addict and wants to have a go on a speedway tack riding a 50cc contact the club. Age restrictions are in place.
Our next superstar class is the 110cc flat track bikes
Our very own King of Pinjar Kaden Keen, this super star is one to watch. Kaden has zero fear when it comes to his bike riding, to match his awesome talent. He not only rides at speedway but motorcross aswell.
Kaden has worked hard to learn the difference between the 2 sports he loves the most and puts in the hard time and practice to enhance his skills.
Watch out for this super star heโs going to do great things.
Kaiden Allan has been riding at Pinjar park for a few seasons now. He has grown and learnt so much regarding his riding and himself. Kaiden has made a lot friends here at speedway and gained some confidence along the way.
Kaiden has found a bike he now feels comfortable on and it is definitely showing in his riding. He would also like to do motorcross but thatโs a work in progress.
Jonothan Forrest. Jono, I donโt know much about this superstar but I do know he has a love for the sport and loves to win. Jono is one of our more competitive juniors who gives his all at every race meet. He challenges the other riders with his no fear attitude pushing them to work harder. Jono has been at Pinjar a while now and watching him grow and learn new skills is a pleasure.
Our Mighty 125cc Heroโs
Now I know heโs my son and Iโll get a talking to when he sees this but it has to be done.
Noah Sandilands, age 14. Noah has been at Pinjar park since he was on a 50cc. Noah was a shy boy but being at speedway has helped him gain so much confidence, respect not only in people but for machines aswell. He has also gained a sense of belonging. He feels as though Pinjar park speedway members and spectators are his family, he is truly at home.
Unfortunately the Sandilands outfit has been having a lot of issues this season and Noah isnโt overly comfortable on the new bike. But he turns up and has fun, thatโs all a mum can ask for. Noah will not be moving up to the 250cc class and continues to ride the 125cc. Iโm so proud of you Noah.
Regan Dossett, wow Mr Dossett where did you come from this year.
Regan has been at Pinjar longer than Noah. I remember when Regan was shy and just stayed at the back of the pack. He wasnโt interested in winning he just wanted to ride.
Well guess who has come to the party. Working super hard on his skills and confidence has paid off and Regan is nailing it on the 125cc with fantastic starts keeping control and getting that winning feel has a few well deserved wins under his belt.
Watch this kid, double duty 250cc. Once he figures out the bigger track and what works for him. Regan is going to Fly.
Jett Harvey, we missed jett for a while but heโs back and ready to roar. Jett has always had a love for solos being the only 50cc junior to have a solo bike that was fantastic to watch. Even tho Jett missed out on a season or two it has not made a difference to his skills. He can still make a bike dance and pushes it leaving spectators with brilliant racing. Soon to be on 250cc he will push riders to be there best.
Harmony Francis, now thereโs not many girls who ride at our club but this beautiful girl has a love for the sport and the skills and energy to go with it.
Harmony has mastered the 110cc and is now focusing on the 125cc, she is a fearless rider who is still learning what lines she prefers. She gives it everything and has a blast.
Mason Robins, our king of Pinjar.
Mason has been a frequent rider at Pinjar, with many wins under his belt. Mason is a very skilled and talented rider. He knows the rules, he knows his lines and from what I can see in the tower he watches the other riders to find their weak spots and then takes on amazing passes. Definitely one to watch out for.
And last but not least
Phoenix Elliott, like Noah Phoenix hasnโt had the best year. There has been a few bumps on the track. This wonโt stop him, Phoenix is a machine. He gets out on that track and the whole world disappears. Thereโs him his bike and that finish line.
Phoenix has shown great talent and love for speedway and he is also riding the 250cc.
Once Phoenix gets the hang of the big track and his 250cc I can almost guarantee he will be keeping up with the more experienced riders and it wonโt take him long.
Our juniors are the future of speedway.
Pinjar Park is the only speedway club in Perth.
We invite any parents or kids to come give it a shot.
If you want your kids to learn to ride, learn the correct way, learn safety, find confidence and skills you can only get from a sport like this and make life long friends.
Contact the club for more information and to find out about come and try events and training days during the off season.
If you are looking for a sport that the whole family can enjoy and become apart of a bigger family get in touch, even if you have no idea about speedway we can help.
I had no idea and it was scary to think of my baby on a bike.
He loves it, I love it and I have learnt so much myself.
Join us,
You wonโt be sorry.
GV Photography for fantastic photos as always.

Top Field Set To Tackle Jeff Gittus Memorial at Pinjar ๐
Jeff was a respected member of our club who lost his life in a road accident. He will always be remembered as a great passenger with champion rider Dennis Nash.
A classy sidecar line up is headed by 4 times winner Russell Mitchell. Russell needs no introduction to followers with his trophy cabinet overflowing with many State and Australian championships. His passenger Justin Wi******er has done many laps of the track in the other direction as one of the best solo riders ever and will be an asset to Mitch.
They are sure to receive plenty of opposition from Josh Wells/Adam Barnes, Adam Wenn/Jamie Thomson, and Bob King/Morgan Cornwell. Josh has raced recently in New Zealand and South Australia and always performs well at Pinjar. I note that both he and the stylish Adam Wenn are nominated for the Australian Title in Tamworth next month and we wish them well.
Bob King always gives his best. He was also a great performer on solos, winning the 2003-4 State under 16 championship.
Mick Sita is also back after missing last week when passenger Jamie Forrest was unavailable.
Stephen McMurray has regular passenger Cushla Beadman back on board after being well served by David Mercer in her absence.
Looking at the solo nominations I see that Linkin Metcalf has finally come of age and is racing with the seniors (Race day Saturday is his 16th birthday) This should add to the excitement to see him compete against a good field which includes Declan Killeen, Colby Mason, Kobee Ziedas and Jack Mcdiarmid.
The 250cc Solos are set to be dominated by Mitch McDiarmid who is likely to miss the stiff opposition usually provided by Linkin Metcalf.
In the Flat trackers Kobee Ziedas hopes to test Des Heys who usually has things his own way in this class. Des was also an accomplished solo rider before moving to this class.
It is set to be a cracker of a night to end the season ๐
Be there early for the Juniors event at 4.30pm ๐
Main event starts at 7pm ๐
Thankyou Tony! ๐

King Daniel Reigns Supreme at Pinjar
Anyone reading the stats provided by respected speedway author and statistician Ken Brown would not have been surprised by this result. Daniel Wi******er had won 6 of the past 12 Kings of Pinjar and been placed in all of the others. I am sure this record will never be matched.
Although the meeting was abandoned early due to track conditions, all heats were run and the top point scorers certainly deserved their positions.
Daniel did not have it all his own way, as talented youngster Declan Killeen pushed him all the way with his only defeats being to Wi******er. I am sure we will see Declan's name on the trophy in the coming years. Colby Mason, Jack McDiarmid and Kobee Ziedas all rode hard and fast to score 8 points with Colby taking third place on a countback due to his victory in heat 8.
Watching Daniel Wi******er takes me back to a night many years ago when (Thanks to Ghosty) I was at speedway on the tiny Costa Mesa track in California. The commentator announced the riders names for the upcoming event and after introducing "Showtime" Bobby Ott the crowd erupted with cheers. I soon found out that they were all waiting for him to ride the straights on his back wheel. Daniel has been giving us that sort of a show for years and is a winner on both one or two wheels. May he continue to provide us this entertainment for years to come.
In the sidecars, Josh Wells and Corey Blackman took out their second victory in this event, after success in 2018. The placings were filled by Bob King/Morgan Cornwell and Adam Wenn/Jamie Thompson. Josh and Corey had missed the last couple of meetings here but in that time raced with success in New Zealand. I note that they are also down to compete in South Australia this weekend against a top field and are sure to do well. The immaculate preparation and dedication of Josh and his crew are a credit to the sport.
Bob King and Morgan Cornwell were the only other pairing to win a heat on the night after a brilliant ride in their third event. I used to think that I was showing some dedication by coming up from Mandurah to Pinjar but Bob puts me to shame as he travels from Albany.
Adam Wenn and Jamie Thompson were quick to come to grips with the fast Russell Mitchell machine and looked good being placed in all events.
The 250cc solo winner was the unstoppable Mitch McDiarmid from the hard charging Linkin Metcalf and Axle McCarthy.
Des Heys continued his impeccable form in the flat trackers with Neil Follett and Stephan Forrest providing the most opposition.
See you March 16th for the final meeting of the season, the Jeff Gittus Memorial!
Thankyou Tony, greatly appreciated! ๐คฉ๐
