As stated last week, the event at Koombana Bay Sailing Club (KBSC) on Saturday 11 March 2023 was really most enjoyable. It was 12-15 knots SW over a 25 km triangle-sausage-triangle course. A great club thanks to them for having us all and putting on the racing and thanks also to all volunteers. The club loved us being there and they want us back next year, that is to say, all the LT fleet plus others. Results top 3: 1. Jay Wild 2 Lachlan " the messiah" Putt 3. Scott " SMIK " McKercher...Photographs as promised taken by the legendary master of images...Tim Putt.....a huge thanks to him. https://www.windsurferclasswa.com/news/2023-koombana-bay-windsurfer-class-racing-invitational/

In the photograph taken by Lindsay Preece of Ironbark Photos: note the sailors including Jay Wild (176) former youth winner of the 1989 Ledge to Lancelin will likely be making a comeback bid for a victory in the WCAWA sanctioned Windsurfer Class Division of the epic 2023 Ledge to Lancelin as part of the Patrik Lancelin Windsurfing Festival 2023 on the magnificient LT. Also shown in the photo is Kelvin Ussher (647) pictured battling Jay in the recent Australian Master Games (AMG) Windsurfer Class event. At that AMG event, Jay in a truly fantastic display of sailing took the Gold Medal in the Lightweights, Grandmaster & Slalom, basically in every division he was in. A masterful effort of board handling, speed, tactics, trim and tuning. Kelvin is also no slouch and performed extremely well in the same AMG event achieving the Gold Medal in the Superheavyweights and is expected to shine in the Ledge to Lancelin after he and Jay return from their expected highly successful 2022 Italian Worlds campaign. Just to update you since our AGM on 19 December 2021, we have recently been recognised and are now affiliated with Australian Sailing and Australian Sailing-WA as the affiliated Windsurfer Class association for this state for 2022/2023: www.sailingresources.org.au/class-assoc/class-list/
Recently we held the Midwinter WA Championships in June 2022 which were a great success. At that event, we admitted new and renewing ordinary members as part of the registration entrance fee to the regatta for membership.
Our new website is now operational: www.windsurferclasswa.com/home/
For those who did not renew by doing the Midwinters in June 2022 please go on and renew here as in the section shown for sailors returning to sailing: www.windsurferclasswa.com/registration/
It is fair to say with the Windsurfer Class Worlds happening in December 2023 at Mounts Bay Sailing Club, the interest in the class in this state will grow to the benefit of all WA sailors. It could not be a better time to support the local association.
Reminder, Sunday 31st is a Mid Winter Series Windsurfer Class race at Mounts Bay Sailing Club (MBSC).
3 Races, starting approx. 13:00.

2022 WA Midwinter Windsurfer Class Championships at Mounts Bay Sailing Club held 24 and 26 June 2022 were a great success with over 14 sailors on the start line of each race.
A total of 7 races were sailed totalling over 30 km. The Marathon on Friday evening attracted a nice S/SW breeze of around 8-12 knots (11.1km). Sunday morning (10 km) saw more punch to the breeze in light to variable winds 8 to 15 knots N/NE which eased off Sunday afternoon (10km). A great fun event thoroughly enjoyed by all. There was stunning winter weather, sunny blue sky all day warm temperatures making the regatta something that truly intensified the life of all participants. Thanks to all the volunteers who made the day happen and congratulations to all competitors. Results are just published by the club, as follows:
Heavyweights
1. Scott Mckercher
2. Michael Ingram
3. David Green
Lightweights
1. David Reid
2. Clive Swanson
3. Bjorn Hage

Then there is more for the course racing Sunday 3 races in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. There are plans to accept entries from not just the Windsurfer LT but other classes eg foil and fin so we have two, three or even more divisions. That should make it even more fun and we may even start all start together at least for the Marathon. Mark your diaries.

Some good demonstrations of the section connector glide master "Skip Frye" potential of the LT when used as a surfboard. A great knee paddler too. A compromise shape for sure, not purely wave oriented although the original Windsurfer was based on Malibu boards. Turning is possible using skills of cross stepping and walking the board, pivoting off the fin and rails. It is fair to say all around potential. It would be great to see how the board performs in the hands of riders like Joel Tudor, Alex Knost or CJ Nelson. Maybe someone at Byron could hand one to Tom Wegener, Rasta or Beau Young. An event at the Noosa Festival of Surfing: perhaps a one design surf contest ! In the meantime please register for the WA State Titles for the next long weekend for which there is a great cracking forecast in the pipeline :
