In my post last week I mentioned that I’d developed a method of energetic therapeutic treatments (‘postural energetics’) that releases muscular tension patterns, pain & realigns posture.

It’s a fusion of Western & Eastern healing methods that spans Myofascial Release, Tai Chi/Qigong principles, Energy Medicine, & is a 3 dimensional approach to deep bodywork.

Manny has received 20 treatments from me, in just over a year now.

Initially, Manny came to see me for long standing knee pain from an old rugby injury.

During the treatments for his knee...I also worked on muscular tension patterns that were connected to his knee pain, which included his hips & upper back.

Once his knee pain was cleared he opted to continue treatments with our focus turning to correcting his postural patterns of misalignment.

A big part of Manny’s treatment plan in receiving a postural overhaul was to teach

This method is my life’s work, created with a deep passion for healing that helps people transform lives through their posture and sense of embodiment.

As a child & teenager I experienced years of physical abuse resulting in a multitude of injuries and being in and out of hospital.

My emotional & mental landscape was a mess. I had very poor self-esteem.

This was obvious & reflected in my body with poor posture.

The poor posture resulted in years of chronic pain, fatigue & a hopeless outlook on my life.

I only really became aware of how bad my posture was when I began studying remedial massage 20 years ago.

Through my training, I delved into the world of functional anatomy, learning about muscular tension patterns and the potential for better posture.

It has taken me years to correct my posture and within this journey of self-discovery I developed a deep respect for the delicate and difficult process of self-healing that most people are faced with at various times in their lives.

Our posture is reflection of all our life story - our repetitive movements, our postural habits, conditioning, our emotional and physical traumas, breathing patterns and mental attitudes.

To truly create change within our postural landscape, change needs to first come from deeper within our emotional bodies and mental attitudes.

Once I began healing past traumas, my physical body became much more responsive to postural alignment, correction & change.

Today I walk tall, with greater confidence and ease. I move within a posture that I feel is stable, mobile- free from chronic tension & pain.

From my personal experience, education, skill-set and a deep understanding of the broad spectrum of human emotions, I’ve created a method of energetic therapeutic bodywork ('Postural Energetics’)
that offers the potential for life & postural transformation through greater alignment.

The majority of people associate deep muscle and deep tissue release with a lot of pain & discomfort (...think the kind of pain that one has when enduring a strong Thai massage..)

However, with my 20 years of experience I have been able to develop a deep muscle release ( & fascia unwinding) approach through a unique style of body work that I have called 'Integrated & Energetic Posture Realigning'.

This technique is non-invasive and is not painful to go through.

It offers profound changes beyond the traditional deep tissue techniques available.

I'm very excited to begin sharing the results of this unique style of body work with you all!

A client of mine Margaret had had a significant shift after only 2 treatments with me - this can be seen in the pictures below.

A HELPFUL TIP TO REDUCE LOWER BACK PAIN

Considering your Inner thigh and adductor muscle tone.

How weak are your inner thigh (adductors) muscles? These muscles are often missed in exercising. Strengthening these muscles will help create balance to the legs and hips, providing greater stability for your lower back. This is also an effective long term solution for ITB and hip pain. If your forever needing to use a foam roller to ease ITB pain, then strengthening the inner thigh muscles will reduce the need to and help ease tension on the outside leg.

A HELPFUL TIP TO RELIEVE LOWER BACK PAIN

Are you experiencing lower back pain or have you at some point in your life?
If you’ve answered yes, you are one of the estimated 70-90% of Australians that will suffer from lower back pain at some point in their lives. In other words lower back pain is a common condition and your not alone.
It can range from a slight ni**le to constant and even severe pain, resulting in immobility and bad posture. Usually lower back pain isn’t experienced in isolation, it can affect other parts of the body and your mental and emotional wellbeing too.
For many, it is still a grand mystery to know exactly what steps to take, which practitioners to see and how to exercise effectively to release and even prevent lower back pain. There are many reasons as to why people experience lower back pain and many solutions. The following tip has improved the quality of my life and significantly reduced any lower back pain and tension.

Tip # 1. Learning to unlock the knees.

Do you lock your knees when you stand and walk? Did you know that locking your knees, locks the lower spine and makes it difficult to engage the core muscles, necessary for lower back support. Unlocking the knees has an immediate relieving effect on the lower spine and back muscles, and supports a long term preventative approach. Even if you work your abdominal muscles regularly, locking the knees will still negatively affect core muscle function.

Try this simple exercise to help highlight the difference between locking and unlocking the knees.

Step 1: Stand with your feet shoulder width apart.
Step 2: position knees directly underneath your hip sockets.
Step 3: Place the palm of one hand on the lower spine and strongly lock your knees back and feel how the spine locks.
Step 4: Keeping the same hand contact on the spine, slowly unlock the knees to a point that the lower spine relaxes.
