It's great to see the students here doing some additional venepuncture practise with our SRMO tutors who have kindly volunteered their time. We hope to continue these sessions throughout the year. The feedback from both sides has been very positive.
It's a big day for us here at SCSSC as we soft debut our new Simulation Centre for medical student teaching. This project has been a long time in the planning and we would like to thank everyone involved for making it a reality. There are still a few technical additions to come, but we are delighted with the outcome so far.

Over the next three days we welcome the Department of Hand Surgery and Peripheral Nerve Surgery from Royal North Shore Hospital. In collaboration with the Australian Hand Surgery Society, they are hosting their Brachial Plexus Dissection Course, and Hand and Forearm Flaps Course in the Clinical Skills Centre. This course runs every 2 years and attracts participants from across Australia.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists are here this weekend for their Foundations of Surgery Workshop. Over the course of the two days they will explore diathermy and electrosurgery, laparoscopic skills, a**l sphincter repair, and hysteroscopic exercises in the SCSSC lab.
We welcome the Upper GI Surgeons attending the Sydney Hernia Symposium today at SCSSC. Comprising of a number of presentations and cadavers skills workshops, the Symposium explored optimal hiatal hernia surgical management techniques (laparoscopy) and the use of mesh technology in abdominal wall reconstruction. Thank you to representatives from W. L Gore, J&J, and Olympus for their involvement.

The da Vinci Xi robot has landed in preparation for the Multi-disciplinary Advanced Laparoscopic Meeting next Wednesday.
The 4th Sydney Endoscopic Ear Surgery Course is taking place at SCSSC this weekend. There will be a full programme of dissection, lectures, and live surgery from Verona (Italy) focusing on the new technique of endoscopic access to the ear. Invited International Faculty include Professor Daniele Marchioni (Italy - Live surgery), Assoc Prof Alejandro Rivas (Tenessee, USA), and Assoc Prof Brandon Isaacson (Texas, USA).
What's on at SCSSC: The Continuing Education in Dentistry team from The University of Sydney are here from August 17-22 hosting their Posterior Periapical Surgery course for dental specialists. Comprising of lectures and cadaveric clinical microsurgical lab sessions, the course is led by Prof Thomas von Arx from the Department of Oral Surgery and Stomatology at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland.
Prof von Arx has performed over 2000 apical surgery procedures during his career, and possesses an unparalleled level of clinical experience in this area. He is one of the most sought after presenters in the field of endodontic surgery.
Professor von Arx will be supported by Dr Bree Belford and Dr William Ha. Dr Belford will discuss the role of IV sedation in endodontic surgery and Dr Ha will present his extensive research into MTA and other root end filling materials.
The Arthroscopic Skills Workshop is on at the SCSSC today. The course is now in its 10th year and continues to be fully booked. Thanks to Dr Brett Fritsch for coordinating the day and to the knee, ankle, and shoulder specialists who have volunteered their time today.
