It's the world glaucoma week and we would like to shed some light on the commonly misunderstood facts about glaucoma.
✅ Glaucoma is the gradual loss of peripheral vision and, in later stages, the central vision
✅ Glaucoma is largely asymptomatic until the end stage - you won't know if you have it unless you get tested
✅ We (optometrists) can spot the early signs of glaucoma through ocular examination and special scans and techniques
✅ You could have glaucoma even if your eye pressure is normal
✅ If you are diagnosed to have early glaucoma, a lot can be done to prevent vision loss.
