A great night celebrating the many wonderful events run by the P & F throughout the year.
Thank you all for your efforts and your amazing contributions to the College.

27/10/2023

Please find following Damian, our P & F President's address to the AGM.

Welcome parents and friends to our Annual General Meeting for 2023. Thanks for attending this evening.
Before I begin, I wish to take a moment to reflect on the sad passing of John Cutler who passed away on the 3rd February - John was the former business manager at the school.

Many of you who knew John personally remember his involvement with the P&F and how he worked tirelessly to support our initiatives and activities.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and we wish them comfort and strength in the times ahead.

I am proud to speak about what we have achieved in 2023.
The seven events we participated to date have in included :

Year 7 parents welcome night
College open day
Comedy for a cause
Trivia night
Mother’s Day
World teachers day
and Granny Smith festival

On behalf of the P&F committee -thank you to all volunteers that have leant a hand, helped co-ordinate and lead the program events.

It was especially pleasing to see the number of new year 7 parents involved in the initiatives such as our college open day to support the school.

Three of the events were social to build on our strategy of community inclusiveness.

Special thanks to the following core team of volunteers who were the engine room for 2023 and participated across a multiple number of the 7 events :
Jane Ward, Catherine Girke, Tara Boyd, Jody Patman, Macole Wassef, Diana Clark and Annemarie Cooke.

I wish to acknowledge the parents who put their hand up for the second time to run the very popular Trivia Night
Vicki Tanner, Jody Patman, Mark Hancock for the Comedy for a Cause and Matt Harvey and Sona Chowdhury for the Granny Smith Festival Stall. Lastly, I wish to thank all the school administration and hospitality staff that were the backbone to help us run the school events.

Now to Luke Homann - our outgoing VP. He has made a long standing contribution to the P&F since 2016 , taking up the reigns as P&F president from 2019- 2022 and VP this year. His 7 years of participation and collaboration has been a great example of tradition of the schools founder St Marcellin Champagnat, which calls us to nurture Good ‘Christians and Good Citizens’. Luke you embellish those qualities - thankyou for your service to the MCE community over your tenure. It’s been a pleasure to work with you over the last few years.

Now to the finances- From a numbers perspective the P&F were pleased to provide a $17,000 donation to the school for student resources and additional teaching support.

The school uniform shop continues to be a major contributing earner for us at just under a third of the income at just under $5000 to date which enables us to support events such as Champagnat day and Year 7 welcome night.

Thank you to the families that generously donated school-wear items for the uniform shop. There was a good number of blazers donated this year which is a pleasing result.

Our appreciation goes to Macole Wassef , Catherine and also daughter Lily Girke for their stellar efforts in running the shop again in 2023. It is a great community service which is very much valued and appreciated by parents.

Thanks go to Karen Guerin Kerr for again continuing her time to work in grant applications which netted an outcome of $ 7500- funds which will be used for the art room.

Finally, Thankyou to my fellow P&F executives
Mark Hancock - for balancing the books as Treasurer.
And Maria Costello for her contribution as secretary.

Regarding parent engagement communications.
Our P&F Community What’s app group has been a successful communication method for quick updates and interactions and we look forward to expanding subscriber pool in 2024 . We currently sit at 99.
We encourage parents to be part of this tool to enhance peer parent interaction. It allows for event collaboration and team building . We find it’s an effective way to “get the message out there”.

Our P&F MCE Facebook portal - which Jane Ward has kindly been managing also has a subscriber base approaching 600 people and is a great example of how we are creating positive community imagery of our activities and lifting our school social profile.

As we draw to a close - The year ahead in 2024 represents a transitional change for us.
We farewell Brother John Curry who ends his time with the school after 4 years. We wish him good tidings as he embarks on his retirement to Papa New Guinea. Thankyou for being such a compassionate and dedicated teacher. We will miss your gregarious spirit and for our sons - those jokes in class are particularly noteworthy.

As me move forward we will focus on succession planning to continue the long tradition of what is the Marist P&F committee.

We have a number of key volunteers including myself that will end their time with the school in 2024. Ideally, we would like to expand the base of volunteers to shadow current contributors for the main events we would like to do. This allows an opportunity for others to experience what is involved in our event planning/coordinating/running and helps spread the load.
It is also important that we continue to build on active membership participation across the entire school years represented to replace those families that leave and in that sense allow for the renewal momentum to continue into the future.
Whether is baking a treat for a function, cutting pies or sizzling a snag - Every type of contribution is highly valued to our MCE family no matter how minor.

I look forward to another successful year in 2024 as we provide opportunities to again be part of something special at Marist College Eastwood.

I thank you parents and friends for the great honour of leading our MCE Parents and Friends in 2023 and for attending this evenings AGM.

Best Regards,
Damian Mousley
