🦋Lift the stigma around women’s health in this year’s
(2–6 Sept 2024). jeanhailes.org.au
💛Did you know that 1 in 7 women in Australia—around 14%—are living with endometriosis? 💛 This chronic condition can be incredibly painful and life-altering, yet it takes an average of 7-12 years to receive a proper diagnosis!!! That’s years of struggling without answers, often feeling misunderstood.
💛It's time to break the silence and raise awareness. If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms like severe menstrual pain, pelvic pain, or unexplained fatigue, don’t wait—seek help from your doctor or a gynaecologist. You deserve answers, and you’re not alone.
💛Acupuncture may help as an adjunct therapy for women experiencing pain, heaviness and the "endo belly", a distended abdomen causing discomfort and bloating. It may provide symptomatic relief while waiting to see specialists or for surgery.

GERIATRIC PREGNANCY // ADVANCED MATERNAL AGE
Being an older mother twice, I got my fair share of comments from health professionals about what was going to happen, and how I was a risk. A risk I couldn't control.
This was me after having my second baby at 41 years old. I am sure the average age in Australian maternity wards is older than it used to be. IVF pregnancies have influenced changes there.
As an acupuncturist, looking at a holistic approach, I am always encouraging to women to find the support networks, specialists, practitioners and tribe that make them feel understood, heard and welcomed. I did and took the 'age factor' comments and labels lightly, as I felt good and ready for this birth. In my case I had some magnificent midwives along to help me for both births and one exceptional doula for the second birth.
Forever grateful Blossomdoulacare
🐥POST NATAL // POST PARTUM SUPPORT: Postpartum care is essential for new mothers, yet it's often overlooked in the whirlwind of caring for a newborn. 🐥
❤️Acupuncture can be a powerful tool to support your recovery, helping to restore energy, balance hormones, and ease the physical and emotional challenges that come with this new chapter.
❤️Remember, taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your baby.
❓What’s one thing you wish you knew about postpartum care?
✅Or what was the BEST gift someone gave you after giving birth that allowed tyou to look after yourself better? Share your thoughts in the comments!⬇️⬇️⬇️
This was me before the birth of my first.
I had terrible all day sickness that lasted until 16 weeks. I kept active with pre-natal yoga, walking and swimming. I booked my labour prep acupuncture appointments in early and weekly, starting at 37 weeks. BUT...he arrived at 37.5 weeks! Lesson learned: Always take a little more time for Maternity leave than you think you'll need!

🌸Understanding the differences between PCO (Polycystic Ovaries) and PCOS (Polycystic O***y Syndrome) is crucial for managing your reproductive health effectively. While they may sound similar, they’re distinct conditions with different implications for your health.
PCOS= Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
PCO=Poly cystic ovaries.
Notice the difference? One is a syndrome and one is a sign.
🌸PCO shows up on an ultrasounds as the classic 'string of pearls' presentation. It means there's multiple cysts on the o***y.
🌸PCOS on the other hand is a full syndrome with hormone imbalances (high androgens), weight gain, insulin resistance, facial hair depending on what's out of balance.
Acupuncture may assist in cycle regulation and balancing hormones especially in PCO as an adjunct therapy after speaking to your doctor or gynaecologist.
🌸Have any questions about PCO or PCOS? Drop them in the comments⬇️⬇️⬇️, and let’s get the conversation started!

I was keen to highlight and shine the spotlight on Women's Health through the lens of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.
This week I've been creating self-care, special offers for 50 lucky female members at Energize Health Club on Sydney's Northern Beaches. I'm passionate about using my 21 years experience in Acupuncture and TCM to help women struggling with pain, stress, self care and hormones.

Our happiness gets smaller as we get older. As children, our joys are simple and abundant: a sunny day, a favorite toy, a loving hug. Our smiles are wide, our laughter contagious.
But as we grow older, our happiness becomes more elusive. We chase bigger dreams, only to find that they don't fulfill us as deeply as we thought. We accumulate more possessions, but they don't bring us the joy we once found in simple pleasures.
We become more cautious, more jaded, more critical. Our smiles fade, our laughter becomes less frequent. We start to believe that happiness is a luxury we can no longer afford.
But what if we're looking at happiness through the wrong lens? What if we're chasing the wrong things? What if happiness is not something we find, but something we create?
Let's rediscover the joy of the little things. Let's embrace the beauty of simplicity. Let's find happiness in the present moment, not in some distant future.
For happiness is not a destination, but a journey. And it's never too late to start again.
"
I hope this longer caption inspires you to reflect on your path to happiness!
So many 39 & 40 week pregnant women have asked me IF acupuncture helps induce labour and do I know how to do that?😳
And I’ve seen so many make the mistake of starting acupuncture too late.
And that’s just backwards because women waste precious time waiting it out alone with their thoughts, worrying when labour will happen or about the pressure of induction looming.
So I’m thinking of putting together a more concise(than what's already out there) Pre-labour checklist for FREE that would help Pregnant women, feel empowered, decisive and get started on their pre-birth care earlier.
I actually give these tips to all my pregnant clients anyway, but I want to get it into more women’s hands sooner.
Would this be of interest to you?
Send me a DM with any comments or feedback or if you have any better ideas on how I can help these women. I’m all ears!
Retreat, find a quiet place and moment and breathe for 5 minutes. Practice for as little as 5 min per day makes a difference is settling your mind and coming back to your centre.
A randomised, controlled study of three different daily 5-min breathwork exercises compared an equivalent period of mindfulness meditation over 1 month. The breathing practices were:
(1) cyclic sighing, which emphasises prolonged exhalations;
(2) box breathing, which is equal duration of inhalations, breath retentions, and exhalations; and
(3) cyclic hyperventilation with retention, with longer inhalations and shorter exhalations.
The study showed improvement in mood and anxiety as well as a reduction in physiological arousal (respiratory rate, heart rate, and heart rate variability).
It was shown that breathwork, especially the exhale-focused cyclic sighing, produced greater improvement in mood and reduction in respiratory rate compared with mindfulness meditation.
Daily 5-min cyclic sighing has promise as an effective stress management exercise.

🌿Have been seeing a fair few pregnant women lately and I'm trying to change their perception of pain.
🌿Labour pain is normal physiological pain that serves a purpose.
🌿When we interfere with a normal physiological process and numb that pain we also numb all the hormones that help to establish bonding and breastfeeding. This can have wide reaching implications.
🌿If you are preparing for labour and like listening to podcasts, I highly recommend

The Great Birth Rebellion
