Our meetings are on every 2nd, 4th and 5th Wednesday of each month starting from 5:30pm meeting start time 5.45pm finishing at 7:45pm.
Visitors are very welcome to our meetings, at no charge, before deciding whether to join.

We enjoyed a slightly different Toastmasters meeting format on the 14th by hosting a Table Topics and Humorous Speech Contest. What a great night it was too!

We had a fantastic meeting held on July 10th.
Our first speaker, Bryan, entertained and informed with his speech entitled “Life Lessons”.
Club President, John, motivated and energised the group with his speech “A Bag of Goodies”.
The final prepared speech was from Shimna, it was her first ever Toastmasters speech which is known as an Icebreaker.
Shimna delivered a fantastic and insightful speech and had the crowd fully engaged throughout. This Icebreaker speech won Shimna both the Timers award and Members Choice Award.
The Gavel of the Gab award was won by Bevan for his Table Topics speech and Kristy was awarded the General Evaluators Trophy for her evaluation of Shimna’s Icebreaker Speech.
During the meeting, we inducted our newest member, Stuart, to Townsville City Council Toastmasters – Welcome aboard Stuart!
We also celebrated the 80th birthday of one of our founding members, Bevan. Happy birthday Bevan!

Townsville Council Toastmasters and Business Leaders Townsville have recently marked special milestones - 20 years and 10 years, respectively, of fostering communication and leadership skills in our community. The event was graced by our inspiring guest speaker, Mike Storkey who shared his wisdom and experiences. A heartfelt thank you to Mike and his wife, Lesley for joining us on this memorable occasion.
Special recognition goes to Bevan and Fleur, founding members of our club who are still active and dedicated participants to this day. Your commitment and passion have been instrumental in our success.

The Townsville City Council Toastmasters Club is a diverse group of people who want to improve their communication and leadership skills, increase confidence, and boost self-esteem.

Another fantastic evening of Speeches and Evaluations was had last meeting.
Di received the Enthusiastic Toastmasters award for her speech titled “H is for Herbivore” as she presented her case for being a vegan.
Kayleen was presented with the Members Choice award for instigating a new segment called “Around the World”. This took the place of the Table Topics session for the evening and provided the opportunity for every attendee to express their thoughts and preferences about their chosen perfect holiday destination.
Leigh-Anne was awarded the Timers Award for her speech about her leadership style titled “It’s never too late to learn” and of her first-hand experience with the 4 core elements that contribute to a successful team approach.
Club President Gemma presented Martin with a certificate of recognition for his 15 years of Townsville City Council Toastmasters Membership.
Our next meeting will be our special Open House Showcase and is on Wednesday April 10th.

Wow, what another great meeting held on March 13th.
We were treated to some wonderful, prepared speeches from Martin, Heather and John on subjects ranging from barbecues to the Toastmasters journey to commitments and taking on leadership roles within Toastmasters.
Kristy was inducted as a new member during this meeting, Nick received recognition for 1 year of membership and Ian received recognition for his 20 years of membership.
Di received both the Members Choice Award as well as the Enthusiastic Toastmaster award for her outstanding performance as Toastmaster for the evening. Ian received the timers award for the timing of both his Table Topic Speech and his Speech Evaluation. A special mention also goes out to one of our visitors for the evening, Rochelle who volunteered to do a Table Topics question and completed it in exactly the 1:30min time allocation. This is an outstanding result for a first-time participant!

Our last meeting held on February 28th saw three fantastic and diverse Prepared Speeches along with the usual Table Topics session that is always sure to entertain.
Congratulations to Bec for 12 months of membership as well as to Micheal for achieving Level 3 of Innovative Planning. Heather won the Gavel of the Gab for her Table Topic response and Leigh- Anne took out the General Evaluators award for her performance as the Topics Evaluator for the evening. Kayleen won the Timers Award for her Prepared Speech and most importantly walked away with a box of Lindt chocolates after winning the raffle! This meeting was again made really special by being so well supported by both new and experienced members as well as first time guests.

Our meeting held on February 14th would best be described as energetic, inspiring and entertaining!
Our Topics Master for this evening, John selected some fantastic questions for the Valentines Day themed impromptu speaking session.
These included;
- What was your favourite Valentine’s Day gift?
- Special dinner date for Valentine’s Day – When and Where?
- Cupid – Who would you shoot with your arrow and why?
- Who deserves roses for Valentine’s Day and why?
- Valentine’s Day has Roman origins, should we go back to them?
Di and Bryan both delivered fantastic “Prepared Speeches”. Di entertained and informed with her speech “What’s love got to do with it?” as did Bryan with his speech “Responsible Dog Ownership”.

Townsville City Council Toastmasters enjoyed a fantastic Christmas party as members and guests came together for an evening full of laughter, joy and festive cheer. Our Toastmaster for the evening Di, ensured that the meeting ran smoothly as we enjoyed 2 x table topics sessions lead by Leigh-Anne and Michael as well as a special visit from Santa (Bevan).

On October 21st, Townsville City Council Toastmasters hosted the area 2 Conference and the theme for this year’s Conference was ‘Unleashing Leadership and Communication Potential’.
One of the main purposes of the conference was to hold speech and evaluation contests between the area 2 clubs for a chance to progress and compete at a regional level.
Speech contests are an important part of the Toastmasters Educational Program. They provide an opportunity for Toastmasters to gain speaking experience, as well as an opportunity for others to learn by observing proficient speakers.
What is Toastmasters? Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organisation that builds confidence and teaches public speaking skills through a worldwide network of clubs that meet online and in person.
Our last meeting was held on Wednesday October 11th - Congratulations to Richard for winning the Timers Trophy as well as the Gavel of the Gab for his Table Topic. Nick was awarded the Members Choice Award for his role as Toastmaster for the evening. Well done to all those who participated, and we’ll see you at our next meeting this Wednesday October 25th.

Another great meeting which included the Table Topics Competition.
Table Topics are a long-standing Toastmasters tradition intended to help members develop their ability to organise their thoughts quickly and respond to an impromptu question or topic. Congratulations to Martin on taking out first place, Micheal did a great job and was awarded runner up and Kayleen had a strong performance coming in third.

Our last meeting held on July 26th was chaired by Robyn and contained some outstanding speeches.
Ian had the crowd captivated with his speech entitled “Victims” and Jessica took us on a journey with her speech “Hello, good news”. Andrew delivered his Ice Breaker speech (the first prepared speech you make as a Toastmaster) entitled “In and Irrational manner”. This was an exceptional speech and earned Andrew both the General Evaluators Award as well as the Members Choice Award. Jessica won the Timers award for her speech, Heather took out Gavel of the Gab for her Table Topics Speech and Robyn was presented with the Spirit of Success Award.

Our meeting held on July 12 was both a Business Session and a Toastmasters Session. Leigh-Anne was kept busy, taking the minutes as well as chairing the meeting. Great work Leigh-Anne!
During this meeting, we welcomed Di as a new member to the club. Di had a fantastic evening taking out the Timers Award as well as Gavel of the Gab. At our last meeting we celebrated the Toastmasters year 2022/2023 at a special dinner, celebrating our Toastmasters and presenting them with awards of the Toastmasters year. Congratulations to all Toastmasters who were presented with an award, and to all other Toastmasters for participating throughout the year.
We also celebrated with cake. 19 years for Townsville City Toastmasters with our past president and new president cutting the cake.
We also said goodbye to the old executive committee and inducted the new committee for 2023/24 Toastmasters year, welcome to a new speech fun filled Toastmasters year.
Our Next Meeting will be held on Wednesday 12th July at 103 Walker Street, Townsville City, ground floor at the Townsville City Council Mayoral Reception Room, 5.30pm start. Guest most welcome to join to see what Townsville City Council Toastmasters has to offer you.
At our last meeting we saw 6 Toastmasters take on the challenge to battle in a debate. The theme of the debate 'All leadership positions should be allocated to people over 50 years of age' The positive team came out strong but it was the negative team who convinced the judges. Congratulations to both teams for delivering a great debate.
Our next meeting will not be held as usual. We are having a celebration evening where we will be saying goodbye to the old executive committee members and introducing the new committee. Townsville City Council Toastmasters will also be celebrating 19 years and we award our Toastmasters for their achievements throughout the Toastmaster year. Our normal meeting will resume on 12th July at 103 Walker Street, Townsville City 5.30pm.
