YOU DID IT NQ! Townsville now has a new laser to treat paediatric burns patients!
Thanks to your support, Townsville University Hospital is now home to a Cutera V+ laser that will treat over 200 children every year who have experienced burns or scarring. This service is the only one of its kind north of Brisbane and provides crucial care and support for injured children.
The new dual-wavelength laser will work in conjunction with existing treatments to improve scar flexibility and treat pigmented vascular skin lesions, resulting in less itchiness, pain, and scarring.
Thanks to YOU, the new laser will ensure that children from all over NQ continue to have access to cutting-edge treatment, keeping their care local and accessible.

Today is Crazy Socks 4 Docs Day, a day to break down the stigma around mental health in doctors and the medical profession. ๐ฉบ ๐งฆ
Townsville Medical Staff Society (TMSS), alongside Brighter Lives, are raising funds and awareness for the mental health of doctors in NQ.
โWe have organised fun wellbeing activities, fundraising and, because it wouldn't be Crazy Socks 4 Docs without them, the crazy socks,โ said Dr Amanda Seneviratne, president of Townsville Medical Staff Society.
The funky socks are a visible symbol to spark conversations about mental health within the medical community and beyond.
You can get involved by buying a pair of socks from the Brighter Lives gift shop for $10 or by donating to Brighter Lives: www.brighterlives.org.au/donate

Picture it โ youโre on your dream tropical overseas holiday, enjoying the beach air and palm trees, only to suddenly, and without warning, end up in hospital in a critical condition. Unfortunately, thatโs exactly what happened to Sally and her family while on holidays in North Queensland last month.
Accompanied by her husband and two teenage sons, Sally travelled from her home of Devon, England to Australia. The plan was to head north and spend a short amount of time in Townsville on the way. However, while out e-scooting, Sally felt a headache unlike anything she had ever felt before. The severe headache caused her to stop in her tracks and she started vomiting, with Justin immediately phoning for an ambulance.
Sally received medical assistance in minutes from the ambulance and was taken to Townsville University Hospital for treatment. Her family received the news that she had suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage and she immediately started treatment. Sally stayed in ICU for the next several weeks and despite having some complications, she is on the road to recovery.
The entire family was impressed with the care Sally received while being treated in Townsville. โThe incredible team at Townsville Hospital and Health Service saved my life more than once over the 3 weeks, and they did so with such care and kindness that it makes me well up every time I think about it,โ Sally said.
Sally and Justin decided to give back to the hospital to say thank you for the care they received by starting a fundraiser for Brighter Lives. Their friends and family jumped at the opportunity to help donate to help here in North Queensland, raising an incredible $7,866 for Brighter Lives.
โI was blown away by just how much my friends and family raised so quickly,โ she said.
โ9,000 miles from home, the staff at Townsville University Hospital did everything they could to make me comfortable and distract me from the distance separating me from all friends and family back home. Thank you for everything you do.โ
Thank you to Reece and Tom from the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys who visited Townsville Hospital and Health Service for their Cowboys in Capes visit. ๐๐
These visits are in conjunction with Brighter Lives and Sun Metals.
Thanks for the visit!
