We had an informative ‘Lunch & Learn’ this afternoon as Hospice Simcoe welcomed Ashley Hammell, co-founder of Pollinate Barrie. Thank you for presenting to staff and volunteers to help us understand the need for native plants to live in our gardens!
Ashley and Kelly Patterson McGrath created Pollinate Barrie in 2022 as a community-led, grassroots organization to educate, encourage, inspire and support native eco-system restoration within Barrie and beyond. They have a small team of volunteers and wonderful community members that are trying to get as many native plants in the ground as we can to restore pollinator ecology around Barrie.

A heartfelt donation of a hand-made quilt was made in memory of Annette Bowman this week. Brenda, Annette’s daughter, and Karen, Annette’s niece, stopped by to offer this gift as a thank you for the support and care that was provided at Hospice Simcoe. Karen spent time with Annette while here at the residence, and wanted to bring home a keepsake quilt to remember those cherished moments. To replace the quilt, Karen had a friend, Monique, from Maison Sudbury Hospice, stitch together this quilt out of clinical scrubs, to hang proudly at Hospice Simcoe, in memory of Annette. This is a gift that can be passed along to comfort others in the future. Thank you for sharing your story and this wonderful gift.

Hospice Simcoe celebrates PRIDE month this June, as a time to recognize the rights and achievements of people belonging to this community.

This is a time to remember history, celebrate how far we’ve come in advancing the rights of LGBTQ+ people, but also to reinvigorate our efforts to continue the fight for equality and against discrimination and hatred. Hospice Simcoe has participated in Safer Spaces training, which is an important resource allowing us to become an inclusive, accessible and non-judgmental organization for 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

Our donors come in all sizes and we are so thankful for every single one!
Sterling, and his mom, dropped by today with a great story that took place over the long weekend. Sterling wanted to raise money for Hospice Simcoe, ”so we could take care of other people like his great-grandmother last year“. He set up a colourful freezie stand and raised $276, wow, that's a lot of freezies! Thank you so much Sterling for thinking of Hospice Simcoe, your sweet donation will go to good use.
