Prisoners' Justice Day (PJD) occurs on August 10th every year and is a day to stand in solidarity with those incarcerated advocating for their human rights to be upheld.

This year for PJD, we will be hosting a joint event with the Elizabeth Fry Society Simcoe Muskoka that will showcase several guest speakers who will share experiences, talk about the importance of the PJD, and speak to the injustices faced by incarcerated folks every day.

Please join us on Saturday, August 10th at 11:30 AM at Trinity Anglican Church (located at 24 Collier St, Barrie) as we gather to show solidarity with incarcerated folks fighting for their rights!

This event is open to the public and we welcome anyone who is wanting to attend and learn.

NEW PROGRAM COLLABORATION ANNOUCEMENT!!!

Last night, we were at Barrie Harley Davidson to announce Shift Disturbers, a new transformative program and collaboration between Georgian College and Elizabeth Fry Society Simcoe Muskoka.

Shift Disturbers is designed to address recidivism among young individuals who have encountered the criminal justice system by creating pathways with reduced barriers into a post secondary environment at Georgian College.

The model for Shift Disturbers is based on other successful programs, such as Project Wreckless, a workforce and capacity development program for at-risk youth in San Fransico. The core of Shift Disturbers revolves around a unique and hands-on approach of rebuilding a motorcycle. Through this, participants will not only learn the technical skills involved in motorcycle restoration but will also develop crucial soft skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and resilience while supported to orient into a post secondary environment and build community connections.

Huge thank you to Barrie Harley-Davidson for donating the motorcycle to Georgian College for this program, and for hosting the launch!

Thank you to Oklahoma Media for the marketing designs and for capturing last night event.

Lastly, thank you to Georgian College and the Social Innovation team for your partnership and actualizing this project!
