Step back in time and learn more about significant fires in Bedford that led to the formation of a bucket brigade in 1922, followed by the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department in 1939. Explore volunteer firefighting in the last 80 years—the people, equipment, training, fire stations, changing structures and dedicated community service. The Regional Firefighters Interpretation Centre and personal collectors have lent additional items for the display. Visitors are welcome to take time to sit and browse a collection of old photo albums covering social events, fire apparatus, and training. In addition to the display, there is opportunity to connect and share memories of volunteer firefighting in Bedford, its growth and changes through the years. Former and current volunteer firefighters will be available from 1–4pm each afternoon to answer questions and share stories about volunteer firefighting in the Bedford community from the early days to the present. Visit with Dave Selig, former chief (70’s and ’80s) and Lt. Robert Andrews, a current volunteer with 27 years of service, and others who drop by.
