We are so excited for our Brant Skills Team to begin this AMAZING new program. If you are looking to upgrade your skills to be job ready, please contact them today!

We are so excited to present our Shop, Eat, Work Here: Building Skills for the Future program.

Brant Skills Centre is receiving $378,950 from the Province of Ontario’s Skills Development Fund, which will help provide free job skills training for 50 people within Brantford and Brant County.
Job skills training will be provided to adults aged 18 years of age and older through the Shop, Eat, Work Here program that will prepare participants for jobs in the retail and food service sectors, and support local employers with access to talent and resources that will help grow their businesses.

Each cohort of learners will receive four weeks of training followed by a job placement. Job seekers will receive an overview of employment and work expectations in the retail and food service sectors, and gain key industry and workplace skills in customer service, payment methods (working with money), digital skills, Point of Sale (POS) systems, and professional workplace skills such as problem solving, collaboration, and communication.

Lori Bruner, Executive Director of Brant the Brant Skills Centre describes this program as an opportunity to reduce the skills gap and minimize the labour shortage in the retail and food service sectors. Job seekers will get the training, skills, hands-on experience, and support they need to succeed; and employers who are looking for the right candidates with the right skills will benefit from having access to a pool of job-ready workers.

“Through flexible training and employment opportunities, participants will gain a comprehensive set of skills,” Bruner said. “Additionally, the provision of accessible and inclusive services and supports will meet the needs of individual job seekers who may have multiple barriers to employment.”

Gino Caputo, Store Manager of Farm Boy in Brantford says “This program is beneficial to all involved. It’s an opportunity for us to get involved in the community, and for job seekers to gain valuable work experience. We look forward to growing our partnership with Brant Skills Centre.”

Job seekers and employers are encouraged to contact Brant Skills Centre to learn more about the Shop, Eat, Work Here program.

This Employment Ontario project is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario.
