We are so humbled by the response to foster Bree. We will be doing up a special post looking for more foster homes than we currently have.
Thank you everyone for caring. We appreciate you ❤️
***EMERGENCY FOSTER NEEDED***
***Time Sensitive**
Bree, a 4 year old spayed Great Dane is in urgent need of a foster home ASAP.
She is an owner surrender at a local vet and is currently receiving medical attention for skin/ear infections as well as a potential urine incontinence issue.
She is on antibitoics, a special diet and will need a few medical baths in the next few weeks to clear up the skin infections and make her feel so much better. Her treatment has already started and she is slowly on the road to being less itchy.
Bree is good with dogs, has been exposed to cats and children (8+) and is the biggest sweet heart. No reaction to the commotion at the vet and loves affection, she is a true gentle giant. She is quickly making friends with all the staff and will make someone so happy!
If you have any interest in helping this sweet soul find the help/care that she needs. PLEASE fill out a foster application on our website.

All medical care will be covered by the rescue.

Beulah (black) the oldest of the 2 is 8 years young while her friend Bree (brindle) is almost 4. Bree has only ever lived with Beulah and is reactive to some dogs. Ideally they should go together but can be separated. If you have questions about these girls you will have to speak directly to Cyndi who is caring for the dogs currently. We are not posting Cyndi's number here, so send us a note on Messenger and we will forward the number to you.

Meet Leo! This handsome 2 year old boy has been patiently waiting at the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society for his forever home since January 😭 and is looking for either a foster family or a forever family. They have done an amazing job at taking care of him, but he deserves a forever family to call his own! ❤️
Leo is looking for a pet-free home where he can be the center of attention. No exceptions. (The staff have tried)
He is very food motivated and adores playing with toys. The staff can attest to his playful nature, especially when outdoors with his favorite toys.
🐶 This goofy and active boy is in search of a home that can provide him with daily exercise, structure, consistency, and plenty of mental stimulation. Although Leo can be a bit nervous around new people, he quickly warms up with a proper introduction.
❌ Due to his nervous nature, Leo would do best in a home without children. However, if you’re looking for a loyal companion who will be your favorite, Leo might just be the perfect match for you!
🩺 Leo is in good health with no concerns
He has captured the hearts of the staff at the shelter. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to this lovable boy, come meet Leo today and see if he’s the missing piece to your family puzzle!
Please contact the Kitchener Waterloo Humane for more information and to arrange a meet and greet with Leo.
Please share this post and let’s help Leo find his forever home!
ZENA
At just one year of age this stunning reverse brindle girl has already had 3 name changes. First she was Tina, then Lily then Zena. Dog bless her foster mom and Dad for fostering, but she is a whole lot of dog.
Zena has unbridled exuberance and requires a foster or foster-to-adopt or straight out adoptive family. She can become over stimulated and come out of the gate like a bucking bronco. Reminds me of the song "I Want to Break Free" by Queen. Zena requires a home with knowledgeable people and the willingness to help this pi***la through positive reinforcement, structure and very clear expectations. She needs committed people.
Zena is good with dogs, cats and kids. YES!!! Because she's a bit of a wild child young kids would not be in her, or their, best interest. Her best suited home is one that is on the quieter side to assist her with self control.
She is a couch cuddler, very sweet and affectionate. She loves her Licky Mat, Kong, ropes and chew toys. She's a sock thief 😬😁.
Zena is very much a diamond 💎 in the ruff. With a calm household and patient, loving people she will be a joy to spend your time with.
Zena requires that foster or foster-to-adopt asap

SHADOW
This beautiful girl is 4 years 8 months young, is spayed and in excellent health. Shadow is a quiet girl on the smaller size for a Dane, but loves like a full size Dane. Shadow is a little reserved when you first meet her (safety first), warms up quickly and loves human companionship while perched on your lap. She loves to go for walks and will need some instruction when seeing other dogs...squirrels are sketchy critters that cannot be trusted and she may yell at them.
Shadow currently lives with another female dog and cat with no issues. As with any rescue, introductions to new animals must be done slowly and structured. Her favourite walking buddy is also a female that she loves to share her morning routine with. Shadow is very well mannered in the house and can be left alone where she will curl up in the chair watching out the front window, waiting for her people to return. She loves her toys and her favourite treats are frozen Dentastix.
If you are looking for a
quiet pocket Dane to share your life with this pretty girl is for you.

Thank you! I’ve been adopted!
🐾 Meet Lincoln 🐾
This handsome 4-year-old Great Dane is looking for his forever home. Lincoln is a playful and energetic boy who loves nothing more than running around in the backyard and snuggling up on the couch. He is a bit too rambunctious around children, so he’s searching for a home without them.
He is a very playful boy and loves to play tug-of-war with his humans. He will develop bonds with stuffed animals that he understands to be his. He will sometimes use the stuffed animals as a soothing tool, or sometimes he will play dog doctor and dissect them. He needs some help working on his leash manners, and counter surfing habits, but with some consistent training, he’ll be the best boy you could ask for.
He gets along well with other dogs and is a pro at sleeping in his crate at bedtime. He is excellent left alone and is not destructive at all. Lincoln is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and ready to find a family who will love and care for him.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will keep you entertained with his antics, and are prepared to continue training to help him be the best boy he can be, Lincoln is the dog for you!
Let’s help Lincoln find his forever home! 🐶💕

*** Frankie has found a foster to adopt home!!! ***
We cannot understand why Frankie has had no serious applications or interest in her. She's beautiful, smart, well behaved, very well trained and is great playing with other dogs, just chooses not to want to share her prized possessions with another dog in the house. Frankie is eager to please and works for food to learn tricks.
Frankie is in desperate need of a foster, foster-to-adopt or adoptive home asap.

*** Arlo has been adopted! Thank you!
Click the link provided for Arlo's bio
https://danesindistress.com/dane/arlo/
*** Arlo has been adopted, thank you! Arlo is a sweet and playful young lad (approx 2+) with a heart full of love and puppy energy. Despite not having the best start in life, he is eager to please and always up for a treat. Arlo is currently working on improving his leash manners and controlling his excitement around other dogs, especially the smaller ones who may find his exuberance intimidating.
Living with a cat who isn’t his biggest fan, Arlo is respectful and gives plenty of space. He’s also trying to befriend the squirrels outside, although they seem to be a bit hesitant and have formed a ‘No Arlo club’.
Arlo is well-trained in terms of house manners and will signal when he needs to go out. While he can be left alone, he does get a bit bored and prefers some company.
Arlo enjoys resting in his crate during dinner time with his Kong toy, but he secretly dreams of joining the family at the table. He’s looking for a family that can continue his training, provide lots of love, and have patience with him as he learns and grows. Arlo has been neutered, has no issues at the vet, and travels well in the car.
While Arlo lives with active boys, he sometimes finds their energy a bit overwhelming. So a home without kids or with older calm teenagers, that don’t get as rambunctious, would be best for him. He believes that being the number one focus in a family will help him excel in his training and be the best companion possible. If a hot chocolate-colored furry buddy is on your wishlist, Arlo is the perfect guy for you.
Today is Frankie’s 3rd birthday… and all she’s wishing for is her forever family! 🙏 🐾 ❤️
Hey everybody! Luna here!!
I thought I'd take a few minutes out of being Irish ☘️ to give you an update. First though, I want to thank everyone who was interested in fostering or adopting me. It sure makes a girl feel special to know that she has options. I'm not available anymore, but please watch this DiD page as several dogs are coming in.
One week ago I left one loving home and pranced right into another loving home, almost like I'm supposed to be here! I'm not on a farm exactly, but I landed in a place with a few other rescue animals. My new friends are Maverick the pony, Cooper the lamb, a feral...turned friendly...cat, a turtle that was found in a Walmart parking lot 😳 and a Dane brother named Xander.
I'll keep in touch!!
Love,
Luna 🐾

When buying a fridge with an ice dispenser be sure to get one that locks

**** Applications for Lady have been closed! Thank you! ****
Meet Lady! A beautiful two-year-old Merle Great Dane with a heart as big as her size. Lady may have had a rough start in her previous life, but her spirit remains resilient and full of love.
Lady is accustomed to being crated and finds comfort in having her own safe space. She is a social butterfly when it comes to other dogs, always up for a play date! While Lady may have a playful side and enjoy chasing cats if they run, she quickly warms up to them and coexists peacefully.
Despite her past experiences, Lady is friendly and affectionate towards kids (8+ please) and people. However, she may show shyness at times and can be easily startled due to the abuse she endured in her previous home. With patience and understanding, Lady blossoms into a loyal companion who craves love and security.
Lady’s favorite pastimes include car rides, where she happily hangs her head out the window and takes in the fresh air. She also enjoys long walks in nature and the thrill of chasing after balls in the open field. With Lady by your side, every day is an adventure filled with love, fun, and the joy of companionship.
If you are looking for a gentle giant with a kind heart and a playful spirit, Lady is the perfect companion for you.
Lady is looking for a foster or a foster to adopt home as her current situation is not ideal.

*** Update! FRANKIE has found a foster to adopt family!! ***
This beautiful gal is looking for a home where she will be the ONLY dog. She wants to have ALL the attention, ALL the affection and ALL the toys to herself. Now, outside of her home she does well with other dogs...bigger is better! The girl knows what she wants.
Frankie is a couch potato with a goofy, loving and loyal personality. She has completed extensive training and is a very smart girl. She's always eager to learn a new tricks. Frankie's favourite things are a good Kong with peanut butter 😋, a comfy place to sleep, and an emotional stuffed animal.
More about Frankie:
🐾 D.O.B is March 17, 2021
🐾 Spayed
🐾 Up-to-date on vaccines
🐾 Crate trained
🐾 Not much exposure to kids
🐾 LOVES people but can be timid with men
🐾 Enjoys off lead hikes and quiet walks
Please do not inquire about Frankie if you have a dog currently. Frankie has tried living with dogs in the past and she's not having it. With the exception of her dog "rules" Frankie is an amazing companion.
We are hoping to put Frankie into a foster-to-adopt home to alleviate any stress that comes with moving foster homes.

***** LUNA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!*****
We are no longer accepting applications for Luna! Thank you! ***
It's the weekend and we hope you'll spend some time this weekend to think about Luna.
This beautiful brindle girl just turned 2 on February 11th. Luna was adopted from Danes in Distress in May 2023 to a very loving couple who have given her everything a Dane could possibly want and need.
Unfortunately, for Luna and her family, a serious of health issues has forced Luna's mom into finding a new home for her. We cannot get too personal here, but with so much going on in the house Luna has become an emotional mess and has become afraid of too much noise, too many people in and out of the house and just change in general.
Luna is a loving dog with people she knows and will be with people she doesn't know, given a few minutes to check them out. Trust must be earned with Luna, it's not a given.
Luna will require time to decompress from the stresses in her life. She must be able to do things, like come inside the house, on her own time. She cannot be "forced" into anything. Luna used to love car rides but now she's afraid to get into the car. We feel that Luna will come out of her shell quicker if she has a calmer canine companion to lean on for emotional support. Time. Patience. Understanding.
About Luna:
🐾 House trained
🐾 Up-to-date on vaccines
🐾 Spayed
🐾 Fabulous with other dogs
🐾 Has experience with cats
🐾 No issues with kids (8+)
🐾 Leash trained
🐾 Obedience training
🐾 Free roaming in the house
Luna requires a foster, foster-to-adopt or straight out adoption ASAP. She is NOT thriving in her current situation.

Tux here (again 🤭)
I know I'm taking up a lot of airtime but I have to brag a little about my progress. This week I've been learning how to meet the cat, Mr. Big. Now, when a cat has the moniker Mr. Big, one has to wonder just how dangerous this is going to be! 😬 Please rest assured that I have not been harmed by Mr. Big but I'm not entirely trusting of him either...as evidenced by some stress yawns. Takes time right? The fact that he is dog savvy has helped immensely.
The other thing I've been doing is meeting new people which has never been a problem for me, but getting on a school bus is a new one! Treats were involved as you can see in my photo 🙂.
I've also been teaching Juliana some commands 🤣 I've been telling you that I'm great with kids!
Anyhow, I hope you have a grrreat day!
Love,
Tux ❤️
Tux here!
I was hoping that I would have my own family by Family Day, but it wasn't meant to be. I've used the time constructively by working on being the best version of me that I can be and I'm pretty proud of myself.
I've been in foster care for several weeks and my foster mom Sonja and her 3 doggo's have been helping me with my fear reactivity to other dogs. If you remember my previous posts you'll recall that my trauma started because my canine sire turned on me when my canine Mom went into heat. None of us were fixed, so I don’t know what my breeder was expecting would happen with 2 mature males and an in-heat female in the house 🤔😬. But that's in the past and I'm working on my future.
My housemates are Titus (English Mastiff), Willow (fawn Great Dane) and Mya (blue Dane). Mya is from Danes in Distress, which almost makes us related!
My introductions to these dogs has been very slow with one at a time. I've progressed from losing my mind when seeing a dog on the street, to making a couple of friends. I know that relationships between dogs takes time to build and I'm ready for that, but it will take some time. I can't be thrown into a situation that will make me feel like I need to protect myself. A calm, laid-back and sound dog is required if I'm to live with another dog.
Don't forget that I'm great with strangers, kids and super affectionate. Cats...maybe not 😬

What's a girl gotta do to get a little attention around here? I'm a pretty girl, not overly large for a Dane (a petite 110lbs), am affectionate as heck, housetrained, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed AND I'm well passed the baby shark phase! 🦈 😉
At 6 1/2 years young I'm not a couch potato. Well, I am, but I need some exercise before we curl up for a good Netflix movie. I do love a good play with my toys in the yard too. I'm certainly not a picky eater, so it might be a good idea not to turn your back on that pot roast that's on the counter 😉 🍽
Oh, I have to back track as I almost forget something super important. I have some pretty strong prey drive and squirrels make me crazy 🤪. So do cats, and horses and critters that run. It's helpful to walk me on a gentle leader and I could still use some help with leash walking etiquette.
Out of the gate I'm more comfortable with women but I do warm up to men. Bring some of that pot roast please! My last couple of years have been spent with people who are home more than away.
I'm in a ⏰️ TIME CRUNCH ⏰️ for a foster or foster-to-adopt home. My current living arrangement has changed as, unfortunately, some circumstances around here have changed too.
You'll find out how to ask about me, Harley, and what's involved by following the link. Any questions just shoot my friends here a message.

Thanks for reading and please share!!!
Remi is a little put out that I neglected to make a post for her birthday. I want to thank her mom Theresa for bringing this to my attention, because we all know that a sulking Dane is a pitiful thing.
Happy 3rd Birthday Remi!!! If I know anything about your family it's that they spoiled you rotten!
There seems to be a little bit of confusion here. I AM available for adoption. I'm currently in a great foster home but, due to family health problems, I find myself in need of a new foster or foster-to-adopt, or straight out adoption.
I check out almost all the boxes:
1. House trained
2. Never met a human I haven't liked
3. Neutered
4. Up to date on vaccines
5. No separation anxiety
6. Not destructive
7. Great with kids
8. I take up less room on your bed and couch than the average Dane. I'm about the size of a large Shepherd. Some think I'm a Catahoula/Dane mix. What I lack in size I make up for in personality and heart
9. I am very easy to walk on a gentle leader...until I see a dog. I'm small but mighty and flip flops are not recommended footwear for walks
My cons:
1. I'm dog reactive. 😬 This stems from living with my canine mom and canine dad. None of us were altered, and my canine dad was pretty mean to me. I mean, what would someone expect to happen with 2 intact males and a female in heat?? Yeesh. Please, don't ask if I could possibly be with another dog...been there, done that. Tried and failed
2. Cats are out of the question Big ole nope 😫
My ideal home would be more rural. When I can trust you I'd be great off leash. I need help with leash reactivity but I'm very food motivated. You'll need to be patient with me and be real about the fact this won't happen overnight.
I'd be fabulous with a single guy...best bro ever. Single female? I'm your guy. Active couple? I'm in! Family members? The more, the merrier 🙂
When you ask about me, my name is Tux, short for Tucker

*** Applications for Otis are closed. We will be in touch with applicants that best suit his needs. Thank you! ***
Good morning everyone!
My name is Otis. I’m two years old, 145 pounds and I’m already so pleased that you’ve stopped by to read my story. People say that I am a “majestic looking dog” but those who really know me understand that I’m just a big, loveable goofball in disguise. Sure, I’m pretty big and handsome (like the canine version of Travis Kelce), but I’m also playful, loyal, great with cats and other dogs, kids (8+please), and basic commands like sit, down, and paw. I do have some trouble responding to my own name, but it’s only because I find the world so interesting.
When I’m not hanging out with my humans, I’m usually sleeping on my favourite spot on the couch or heading out on one of my two walks a day. I’m a really great walker too. They say I’ve mastered loose leash walking skills which is apparently a big deal.
Like my other Great Dane pals, I have a few quirks. I don’t really love stairs and need a bit of coaxing to go down them, especially if they’re covered in snow or ice. I also have a loud bark when the doorbell rings but at least you’ll never be surprised when guests come. Oh, and I don’t like deep water. Beaches yes, but only up to my knees. I’m more of a wader, than a swimmer 😉
If you’re looking to add a dog like me to your family, there’s only one more thing you should know. I will do my best to make you happy. Here’s hoping we get a chance to meet.
Your new best friend,
Otis 🐾
Tux here, short for Tucker, and I'm in need of a foster, foster-to-adopt or adoptive home.
I was recently adopted from a shelter, by a wonderfully loving family and though they love me, and I love them, it's not an ideal situation for me and I'm freaking out. The sensory overload, living in a condo with foot traffic, being in elevators, hearing noises I'm not used to, is fraying my nerves. I'm a people kinda dog and I don’t like other dogs, and there's about a billion of them downtown here and I can't concentrate on being a Good Boy!
I need an appropriate home where I can flourish. My ideal home would have a nice yard (no dogs) that I can use to play in with toys (no dogs). I'm so good with kids (not dogs), and I'd love some young friends that are older than 8 (not dogs). I have no history with cats or small animals, so it's best that I'm not exposed to any.
My info in bullet form:
* I'm 3 years old
* it's possible that I'm a Dane mix as I'm not very big. I'm a pocket Dane!
* neutered
* up to date on vaccines
* microchipped
* house trained
* non destructive
* no separation anxiety
* great with all strangers
* love kids
* love car rides
If you can offer me the stability that I need and you live in a rural area or quieter suburb without a gazillion dogs, I need you in my life.
Thanks for reading,
Tux ❤️

**** UPDATE: FOSTER FOUND! Thanks to everyone that shared! Caesar’s going home! ❤️❤️❤️ ****
Ceasar is a lovable boy who is searching for a family to call his own. He is a Dane lab mix with a heart of gold and is eager to please. Ceasar knows basic commands and is highly food motivated. He loves everyone he meets and gets along well with most dogs as long as they are easy-going like him. We estimate that Ceasar is between 2-5 years old. He is scheduled to be neutered in early February and is currently a little underweight, but with some tender loving care, he will thrive. Ceasar is house trained and although he can get a little excited on leash, he will make an excellent companion with a little time and love.
***Please note: Ceasar is currently located at the City of Hamilton Animal Services Animal Control on Dartnal Rd, so adoptions will be through them. Come meet this gentle giant and you won't be disappointed with his shining personality. Our team has met him and fell in love, and we are sure you will too. Unfortunately, we do not have any foster homes available for this sweet boy.
Maskwa, came to Danes in Distress just before the holidays as an urgent surrender as his owner had passed away.
A young pup, learning his way through life and finding snacks along the way, Maskwa has been a warm welcome to his foster parents who had lost two Great Danes in 2022, and have been fostering for Danes in Distress since. Today, they sent us these photos and we couldn’t be happier for him.
