Photos from Kachan Physiotherapy's post 04/26/2024

Last week, the Kachan Physiotherapy team took time out of the clinic to spend the day together to learn and connect with some amazing community resources.

On the staff education day, physiotherapist Jessica Roy spoke to what she learned from her UofA diagnostic imaging course. This included recommendations, protocols and evidence based decision making. Her presentation is perfectly timed for the new role physiotherapists will soon play in ordering x-rays!

We learned about cybersecurity and the importance of protecting both personal and client information!

Lastly, we were so fortunately to have Matthias Mueller speak to us from Aerobics First about shoes, running and trends in footwear. We learned so much and it will only help to deepen our knowledge base for our clients.

But the staff education day wouldn't be complete without a little bit of fun. Check out this staff challenge to paint David! Who do you think won!?

Is your orthopedic or pelvic health condition limiting your participation in the activities that you enjoy?

Our physiotherapists are here to establish a plan to keep you moving!

It is important to remain active through injury to maintain cardiovascular fitness, strength, and emotional well-being. Our goal is to keep you moving throughout your recovery. A few examples of how they can promote this is through prescribing a personalized home exercise program, short-term alternative activities, or parameter modification amongst other things.

Taking care of your pelvic health is just as important for men as it is for women! From bladder concerns, to pelvic pain, let’s encourage talking about male pelvic health as it’s more common than you might think.

15% of men over 60 will experience some form of urinary incontinence (Source: Canadian Continence Foundation).

Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome is estimated to affect 2-16% of the United States*

Common symptoms of male pelvic floor dysfunction are:
- Frequent urination/painful urination
- Urinary leakage
- Pain at the p***s, testicles, or re**um
- Constipation
- Pain during or after s*x
- Abdominal pain

A common cause of these symptoms can be the muscles of the pelvic floor.

If you are noticing some of these symptoms and are curious to learn more, please give us a call at (902) 444-1499 or email us at [email protected]

Happy national physiotherapy month! Can you spot the Kachan physiotherapy team member?

May is National Physiotherapy Month!
-
We want to take a moment to highlight and thank the over 27,000 registered physiotherapists who work across Canada.
-
WHAT IS A PHYSIOTHERAPIST?
-
Physiotherapists are primary health care professionals that play a key role in health promotion and treatment of injury and disease.
-
Physiotherapists combine their in-depth knowledge of the body and how it works with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess, diagnose and treat symptoms of illness, injury or disability. All physiotherapists registered to practice in Canada are qualified to provide safe and effective physiotherapy treatment.
-
WHAT DO PHYSIOTHERAPISTS DO AND WHERE DO THEY WORK?
-
A physiotherapist’s goal is to get you moving. That means getting you to a place where you can be at your best functional capacity, maintaining that and then helping you to prevent future injuries.
-
They work in private clinics, general and rehabilitation hospitals, community health centers, residential care and assisted-living facilities, home visit agencies, workplaces, and schools.
-
Physiotherapists work in all kinds of different areas including orthopedics, paediatrics, women’s health, neuro rehabilitation, cardiorespiratory rehab, geriatrics, sports and more!
-
This year we are even more grateful for our colleagues who continue to work on the front lines to meet the emergency needs of their patients throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
