Football is back! We are looking forward to another season with . Last year ended with a championship, we're excited to see what this season brings.

The Phoenix kick off the season tonight and we'll be on site for all Athletic Therapy needs.

"I started sessions with Eric after playing for almost one year with several minor injuries. When I started seeing him, I was always in pain and tentative to work out for fear of aggravating my injuries. Eric was patient with me and gradually rebuilt my strength and confidence. I went from lifting no weight to squatting over 100 lbs with him in a couple of months. He effectively scaled back my sessions when I had setbacks or concerns and knew when to push me. His workouts were varied, sport-specific, and undoubtedly improved my abilities on the field. I highly recommend training with Eric if you’re injured, feeling stuck, want feedback on form, or want to elevate your athletic abilities."

What a great year of growth in 2022!

From lots of great days in the gym and clinics at and to spring and summer field sessions with to being a part of a championship season with ⚽️🏈🏋‍♂️🏋‍♀️

We have a great team to work with in our community and I'm excited to keep this growth and joy of community serving up for years to come.

Thanks for the support and great group of individuals I get to work with every day.

A wild weekend for field and sideline coverage.

and I both spent a lot of time at the C4P tournament, saw and provided care to a lot of injuries and experienced the incredibly welcoming Ultimate Frisbee community in the maritimes.

stood guard this afternoon to see our Football team take yet another win to continue their streak defeating the CPA Cheetahs 36-2 and plan to take the championship next weekend.

Though field coverage is tiring and time consuming, it is always rewarding. There aren't many better feelings for us than when someone tells us they wouldn't have been able to play a sport they love without our help.

That's what we're here for. Safe and effective return to play.

It's International Athletic Therapy & Training day!

I embarked on this journey after deciding on it at age 14. I originally wanted to do AT to work on the sidelines in the professional hockey setting. Soon after starting CrossFit training and entering into the Strength & Conditioning world I saw how beautifully Athletic Therapy could fit into the CrossFit and S&C world.

I haven't looked back and am so thankful for the community-based work environments at and

There is tons of room for growth of AT in Nova Scotia and I'm here to keep growing it and helping our communities by fostering safe, active, and fun lifestyles.

We are all athletes of life.

There is a common misconception that athletic therapists only treat pro athletes. In reality, CAT(C) athletic therapists, such as myself, treat a wide range of patients
suffering from musculoskeletal injuries.

Our goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or walking to the mailbox and back, to performing well at your job without fear of injury.

If you're in pain or injured, I would love to help you in your recovery. You can contact me at or by calling or emailing 902-446-4303 to set up an appointment.

Athletic therapists are known not only for their quick-thinking on-field emergency care of professional and elite athletes, but also for treating the general public through injury assessment and rehabilitation.

This year's Athletic Therapy Month campaign, "we are all athletes of life," wants to remind you that anyone can benefit from athletic therapy.

Hydration. Nutrition. Sleep.

Recovery doesn't have to be complicated. If we consistently satisfy our body's needs for the above three things, we'll be in a good spot.

Everything else we do for recovery is helpful but if the top 3 things aren't satisfied then we will be far from reaching our full potential to continue to perform or carry out our activities.

Happy rest day tomorrow!

"This May I broke my right ankle (fibula and chipped tibia) while park skating and had to be in a cast for 9 weeks; being an active person I was completely devastated. I was so determined to return to physical activity quickly that I went to see Eric the day after I got my cast off. Eric was patient with my eagerness to return to physical activity, he took the time to learn about my athletic history and together we set goals for my recovery. I wasn’t given a lot of information about how to return to activity from the specialist who treated me, and Eric was knowledgeable about the stages of healing and recovery specific to my injury that I felt confident in his professional opinion. Eric developed a training plan where I was not just regaining mobility but also able to return to movement in a way that felt appropriate to my fitness abilities. I saw Eric every week (twice a week in the first few weeks), he had unique and challenging exercises planned out for me and every session I felt like I was making considerable progress. At my six-week follow up with the specialist, he told me my mobility, strength, and balance far exceeded what he’d seen in terms of progress from others with similar injuries. Eric helped me return to both CrossFit and park skating and even found an athletic therapist for me now that I’m in Toronto. I wish I could work with Eric until I’m fully healed but Eric provided me with the strong foundation and training plan to ensure a full recovery. I can’t say enough positive things about my experience with Eric and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to rehab an injury.

A little bit about me and why I might be a good choice to come to for injury, pain, and S & C help!

with MEET ERIC…

I completed a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at Dalhousie University in 2017. During this time, I worked as a Student Trainer for the ,  with an interest in pursuing athletic therapy. During my degree, I began coaching as a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer at , and have continued coaching group classes and personal training since 2016.

In 2018, I began my Advanced Certificate in the Athletic Therapy program at Mount Royal University in Calgary. Throughout the duration of this program I was exposed to athletes and patients of many different sports and backgrounds, from contact sports to endurance sports. The primary teams I worked with while in Calgary were the men’s basketball team, and the men’s hockey team.

Clinically, I use a holistic assessment process and a combination of exercise and manual therapy techniques to rehabilitate patients from a variety of injuries and pain within the musculoskeletal system. I specialize in on-field and sideline assessments, return-to-play decision making, and sideline concussion assessments. In addition to becoming a Certified Athletic Therapist, I am a certified first responder and CPR/AED BLS certified. I recently completed a virtual year-long Movement Academy with Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers across the United States through Forward Movement.

My passion for helping individuals return to their daily activities is stronger than ever. My goal when working with clients is to identify how their movements may be leading to pain and give them tools to come back to a place of function. The first place I look with CrossFit athletes is what their technique is in the problem movements, and how it relates to what their pain levels are.

Outside the clinic I love to train as a CrossFit athlete, go on adventures in Nova Scotia whether it’s hiking or kayaking, and I love an evening bonfire on the weekends.

"I originally booked in to see Eric because of an annoying knee issue, but ended up benefitting in many more ways!
During my assessment Eric was able to pick up on a few other issues for me to work on including my breathing, which lead to massive improvements in the gym and out on the racetrack.
Eric put in the effort to understand how I used my body while on my bike and used that knowledge to pick out the most beneficial exercises for my sessions, warm ups, and homework!
Thank you, Eric!"

Deadlift is a PUSH

Typically we think of the deadlift and other hip-hinge exercises as "pulling" exercises, i.e. pulling with the glutes, hamstrings, and spinal erectors. You may see or include for yourself deadlifts on a "pull" based training day.

However, through experience of studying the mechanics of the lift, teaching and cueing it with multiple patients and athletes, I've found that many have success keeping themselves safe and performing well in the lift by thinking of the deadlift as a PUSH.

More often than not, if we think of the deadlift as yourself pushing the floor away, we have less torque through the lower back, which should be stabilizing and not working as a moving part. We also have a good balance of pushing with the knee and hip extensors to create that upright standing position efficiently.

Another great Friday morning coaching at 🏋‍♂️🏋‍♀️
