Want to Improve Your Balance? Let’s Get Steady!
We've all experienced those moments where a small trip feels like it could turn into a big tumble. Whether you're balancing while carrying groceries, walking your dog, or just trying not to spill your morning coffee, good balance is essential. Here are some simple exercises to help you stay steady on your feet and avoid those awkward stumbles.
1. Single Leg Stand (The Flamingo!)🦩
Stand on one leg and hold for 30 seconds, then switch to the other leg. For an added challenge, try closing your eyes or standing on a soft surface.
2. Tandem Walking (The Balance Beam Walk!) 👟
Walk in a straight line, placing one foot directly in front of the other, heel to toe. If this is too challenging, slightly separate your feet from one another. If it is too easy, add an extra long blink as you walk.
And of course, remember to stay safe as you do these!
With dedication and regular home visits, this patient overcame post-operative challenges and are regaining their independence. We are proud to share this success story from our wonderful Zoomers Physiotherapist, Lindsey Hounsom.🚶♂️🚗

With the warm summer months upon us, staying hydrated is more important than ever. Proper hydration helps maintain energy levels, supports joint health, and keeps your body functioning optimally.
Tips for Staying Hydrated:
➡️ Drink Water Regularly: Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Carry a water bottle with you as a reminder.
➡️ Eat Water-Rich Foods: Incorporate fruits and veggies like watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges into your diet.
➡️ Infuse Your Water: Add a splash of flavor with lemon, mint, or berries to make drinking water more enjoyable.
➡️ Set Reminders: Use a timer or an app to remind you to drink water throughout the day.
➡️ Monitor Your Urine: Light-colored urine usually indicates proper hydration, while darker urine may suggest you need to drink more.
Why it’s beneficial:
✅ Supports overall health
✅ Enhances energy levels
✅ Aids digestion
✅ Maintains skin health
Stay hydrated, stay healthy, and enjoy the beautiful summer days! 🌿✨

Sharing Our Story
Zoomers focuses on providing health services (physiotherapy, massage therapy, occupational therapy) and fitness classes tailored to Halifax’s 50+ population.
Led by Laura Lundquist, a physiotherapist who has worked in orthopedic and sport physiotherapy for 15 years. As she helped her clients recover from injury, she became passionate about ensuring people are able to “LIVE THE LIFE THEY LOVE”. This enthusiasm for healthy living grew into a real interest in healthy active aging.
Laura identified a need for services for adults looking to continue a physically active lifestyle despite new diagnoses or injuries. This is what inspired her to open Zoomers Physiotherapy and Health Solutions in early 2018.
We encourage you to visit us any time for a tour of our warm, friendly and relaxed environment - we would love for you to become part of our community!
