On Monday, the Grade 6 Celebration was held 🧑‍🎓. Each student shared their favourite memory of the school.

A beautiful banner was created by Thalia, Eva, Penny, Riley, Arisha, Sequoia, Halley, Layla, Aria, Iliana and Reign, and each grade six student painted an arrowleaf balsamroot in the foreground. Much like this flower, their time here at Watson Road has been a season of growth, challenge, and transformation. They have navigated through the changing seasons of elementary school and have emerged stronger and wiser.

The arrowleaf Balsamroot has been used as a valuable food source and is significant to the Okanagan calendar and the Syilx-speaking Peoples of the Okanagan Nation as a time marker. Its vibrant yellow blooms blanket the landscape, symbolizing not only beauty but also endurance and adaptability. With time, the Arrowleaf's roots grow up to 8 feet long... Symbolizing their deep knowledge and friendships that is cultivated. These roots ground them, anchoring them in the values and principles that will guide their future.

Our best wishes for the grade six students!!!

Just wrapped up our final PAC meeting of the year and elected new parents to our PAC executive for next year!

Huge thanks to our current PAC for their incredible work, and best of luck to the new team!

06/20/2024

Hi Watson Road families,

This Thursday is our final PAC meeting of the year and includes the critical task of electing parents to serve on the PAC executive next year.
We have received nominations for special events coordinator and fundraising coordinator, so no nominations will be accepted for those positions at the meeting. However, as a result of those nominations, we now have an opening for a member at large. A description of the role can be found on page 8 of our constitution and bylaws. https://tinyurl.com/4wzx28xa

In addition, while we have had conversations with some parents about the role of president, there have been no official nominees finalized for the position. We need to have a president for the PAC to continue to exist. As well, we are still seeking nominations for the position of vice-president.

Please join us for this important meeting to determine the future of the PAC. We will be seeking nominations from the floor for the open positions. You will also have a chance to hear about what the PAChas done this year, approve next year's budget, and get an introduction to a potential bylaw change for the fall. All Watson Road parents and guardians are invited to attend. The meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m. in the Watson Road library.

We look forward to seeing you!

Watson Road PAC Executive & Council

June 2024 Newsletter

06/08/2024

Hi Watson Road families,

We hope you have read the message sent out by our current PAC president last week, outlining the critical need for a parent to step up as PAC president for next school year.

Without a PAC president, we can not have a PAC for Watson Road Elementary. This past year, PAC fundraisers, hot lunch and events, as well as provincial gaming funding, resulted in more than $26,000 being disbursed to support the staff and students of Watson Road. In addition, former Watson Road students were able to benefit from the bursaries supplied by the Watson Road PAC.

Without an active PAC, Watson Road will not qualify for gaming grants, which totalled more than $12,000 this school year. A majority of that funding is used to pay for bussing for field trips.

We are now making the third call for nominations for parents to serve on the 2024/2025 PAC Executive & Council. In addition to the need for a president, there are also openings for vice-president, special events coordinator and fundraising coordinator. If the final positions are not filled, that will mean a lack of school events (like spring fair) and fundraisers which are used to support the school.

If you are willing to serve in one of these positions, please email [email protected] by June 13. If no nominees are received by that date, we will also accept nominations from the floor at our annual general meeting on June 20. Click the link which outlines the requirements of each role, as well as more information about the nomination process. https://tinyurl.com/35km2nxk

Thanks for your consideration,

Watson Road PAC Executive & Council

Hi Watson Road families,

We are just over a week away from our annual spring fair, and have many volunteer slots that still need to be filled.

In order for the fair to run smoothly and for us to offer all the activities planned, we do need additional parents to take on a shift at the zorb balls, help with concession, supervise ball hockey and field games, oversee the book walk and colouring, and assist with set up and take down.

If you are able to volunteer for part of the night, it would be greatly appreciated! Please use this link to sign up for a slot. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4BAEA623A0FBC25-49316905-spring #/

Thanks in advance for your assistance! We look forward to celebrating "The Wonder of Spring" with you at the Spring Fair on May 23. Entry wristbands are available for sale on Munchalunch until Tuesday at noon.

Thanks,

Looking forward to see you all today for the PAC general meeting at 6:30pm at School Library.

Our general PAC meeting is this Thursday May 16, 2024 from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the school library. All parents and guardians are welcome to attend!

We are making a second call for nominations for parents to serve as elected PAC members for the 2024/2025 school year. Some of the current PAC members have children moving on to other schools or have reached the end of their term. We anticipate openings for president, fundraising coordinator and special events coordinator.

If we do not fill the president position, we may not have a PAC and will miss out on provincial funding that pays for bussing for school field trips and other items. We would also not be able to support technology upgrades, library funding, student agendas, playground equipment, bursaries. and support of many school events. It is critical that we have a parent step up to take on this role.

Additionally, we are in need of a fundraising coordinator and special events coordinator to put on events like the spring fair, movie night and school dance or run various fundraisers, both of which bring in funds to support the school. Unless these positions are filled, it will impact how much we are able to support the school and limit the fun events that the students look forward to.

Please consider how you can support the PAC's continued support of Watson Road Elementary. We hope to see you at our general meeting on Thursday, as we will be discussing these roles in more detail. For more details about the nomination process and the duties of each position, please check out the link https://tinyurl.com/648kwd99.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

Thanks,

We are also looking for previously loved books for the popular book walk at the fair.

If you have items you would like to donate, please bring them to the school no later than Tuesday, May 21. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]

Hi Watson Road families,

Our Spring Fair is just over three weeks away which will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 5:30 PM to 8:00PM.

Wristbands are on sale for entry to this annual fun night for Watson Road families. Each student needs a $8 wristband to participate in the activities planned from Munchalunch. The wristband will allow students to jump in the inflatables, bounce in the Zorb balls, create crafts, play games and participate in activities provided by various community groups. Supervising parents do not need to purchase a wristband. There will be food trucks, cotton candy concession, 50/50 draw for the parents and silent auction items to bid on.

MunchaLunch link to buy the wristband:
https://tinyurl.com/2muw8rxx

We require the support of parents to run the events smoothly. Please volunteer for a shift to supervise Zorb balls or helping oversee activities to ensure we have a full complement of activities available for the evening.

The PAC is also seeking children's books, mini-toys, sticker packs, temporary tattoos and fidgets to use at the fair for game prizes and our book walk. These can be dropped off at the school. If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected].

Thanks,
