Introducing the second project we will be facilitating again this year!

The Positivity Project’s inspiring initiative continuously fuels change all over the world. At the 2020 Enactus National Exhibition their efforts were noticed, and they were awarded Best Idea for the Youth Empowerment Challenge.

Enactus Queen’s is so excited to work with this team and aid them in their mission of spreading positivity.

Introducing one of the projects we will be facilitating this year, Algi! Algi creates sustainable plant based products using algae and was co-founded by our previous Enactus Queen’s president, Devon Hawkins, in July 2019. The project has made great progress and has been featured as a finalist at the Smart Kitchen Summit in Seattle. In addition, Devon was interviewed on CBC Radio 1 and has spoken at the Kingston Climate Symposium. We can’t wait to see what Algi will accomplish this year!

On March 5th at the Mitchell Hall Event Commons, each Enactus Queen’s venture will present a 10-15 minute pitch that will outline their stories, the company, and the impact they generate.

The ventures will revolve around 4 specific areas: financial literacy, environmental sustainability, entrepreneurial, personal and professional development.

Daniel Hendry - Manager, Community-Based Learning at St. Lawrence College

Dan strives toward promoting sustainable initiatives for the Limestone District School Board, and is the manager of community based learning & innovation at St. Lawrence College. His concern for the environment is what drives him to take initiative in promoting sustainable solutions within the Kingston community. He continues to engage in initiatives that promote positive sustainable change throughout the Kingston community. His combined interest in sustainability, innovation, entrepreneurship, student mentorship, and community have been well integrated into his personal, academic, and professional experiences. Dan is continuously seeking new opportunities to connect with like-minded professionals who engage in sustainable & innovative initiatives within the community.

Joanna Reynolds - Social Innovation Specialist at the Social Innovation Canada Centre

Since 2007, Joanna has worked alongside incredible talent and visionaries to expand how social finance, impact investing, social innovation and social enterprise affect long-term change that puts people and planet first. Joanna's roots are in community development and education to enhance peoples access to opportunities and equality across our systems.

Joanna work alongside social entrepreneurs, community groups, foundations, and business leaders, students and faculty to advance the application of social finance, social innovation, and social enterprise growth.

Prior to the role with the Centre for Social Innovation, Joanna had the great opportunity to be a founding team member of the MaRS Centre for Impact Investing (2011-2015) and worked with Social Innovation Generation (2008-2011) with a focus on social finance. Joanna curated Canada’s Social Finance Forum from 2008-2015 and supported the research and development of the Canadian Task Force on Social Finance report, "Mobilizing Private Capital for Public Good”, 2010. As well, Joanna is the co-author of the "State of the Nation: Impact Investing in Canada" report, 2014.
