Introducing our final panel speaker for the 2023 Sociology Academic conference happening THIS Fri, Mar. 3rd @ 4-5:30pm in. Mac-Corry Rm. D216!!
Meet Chantal Tshimanga🌟
Chantal has a BA (Hons.) in sociology with a minor in history from Queen’s University and a Post-Baccalaureate diploma in counselling and human development from Simon Frasier University.
Chantal currently lives in Ottawa and has worked as a special assistant in the Prime Minister’s office. She is now a Parliamentary and Regional (West & North) Advisor for the current Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.
She mostly grew up in Vancouver, B.C, a bit in Montréal via Belgium. Her unique background has colourfully painted her worldview as both a Westerner and an immigrant and led to developing interests in music, law, and social justice.
Like so many of us, Chantal is still figuring out life. Along the way, she has been a shift lead manager at the PSC, tried and failed at a social enterprise start-up, made sales, planned and executed events, etc.
Chantal is another example of not having a perfect path to get somewhere. Even though she’s learned so much about herself, there’s so much left to learn and she’s eager to do it.
Come listen to Chantal speak about her experiences at the conference this Friday!
‼️Tickets can be purchased via the linktree in bio. Don’t forget to sign-up at the sign-up form in bio, spots are limited!‼️

She also has an active role teaching in the department as the instructor for SOCY 426 (Intersectional Social Justice - a new course offering she developed for the Winter 2023 semester) and as a teaching assistant for SOCY 338 (Sociology of Criminal Justice).
In addition to her work at Queen’s, she is a research assistant at UBC Okanagan, where she is currently working on a multi-city research study investigating the ways that local service agencies adapt to multi-year plans to end homelessness.
Come listen to Katie talk about her experiences with sociology in the post-graduate setting at the conference on March 3rd @4-5:30 in MacCorry Rm. 216
