Something fun you might not know about Dr. Miller is that he sang in many different choirs during his youth and young adults. Since getting married he and his wife have been asked by family and friends to sing together at different events including weddings and funerals.

We were both touched listening to this the other night and wanted to share it with all of you.

This is what Dr. Miller’s procedure room looked like 4 years ago, the first week he started seeing patients at the clinic. Some things have changed, some have stayed the same, it’s been a lot of work and thousands of patients later we still love helping people feel better every day.

Tyler Shandro is trying to make changes to the Health Professions Act (HPA). It could mean that the organizations you trust to ensure the safety of your healthcare are no longer independent.

The HPA empowers independent regulatory bodies to protect and serve the public interest. Health professionals look to these regulatory bodies to develop, maintain and enforce professional regulations, standards of practice and codes of ethics. This keeps us all safe.

Now the Health Minister is proposing that he get some of the power held by independent regulatory bodies. Tyler Shandro wants more power over the regulations and standards that protect the public. Why?
will be undergoing a series of posts to examine the proposed changes and how they might help healthcare become more profit-driven, than patient-driven. Please note, these are all theoretical situations as Tyler has not told any one what his ultimate plan for healthcare delivery and private health insurance companies are.

Proposal #12: Provide for the approval of professional regulations by the Minister rather than the Lieutenant Governor in Council (LGIC).

This is just an obvious power grab.

I could tell you about a theoretical situation where Tyler Shandro used this power to reduce "red-tape" that prevented large foreign corporations from providing healthcare at a profit. The pandemic has taught us what happens when profits come before patient care.

Please like our page, join other grassroots advocacy groups (post your suggestions in comments) and learn how you can stand up against the systemic destruction of public healthcare and public education in Alberta. We can create a strong future for our children, if we can just put them ahead of corporations.

If you are currently unable to get your botox treatments for migraine headaches from your usual provide we do have some good news. Both Dr. Miller and Dr. Griffith have been approved to continue botox treatments for migraines at this time and the process is simple.

1) Call your family doctor schedule and virtual consult with them and get them to send a referral for botox migraines to our clinic. Make sure they include the last day you received your treatment so we can ensure you stay on schedule.

2) Wait for a phone call from one of our nurses to schedule you for an initial virtual consult with one of our doctors, and you will be brought in the next day for your treatment.

Depending on your drug plan we have botox provided to our clinic and after one or two phone calls your insurance will be direct billed, you will have a small co-pay at times of $25, but the cost of the doctor's service is billed to Alberta Health Care as long as you are between the ages of 18-64.

Because we know there are many out there in need of this service our doctors are setting aside extra time to meet the demand. We do not want migraine patients suffering or ending up in the ER as a result of being unable to receive their botox treatments.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact our clinic and one of staff will try to assist you in any way possible.

Update:
Effective March 23, 2020 all community EMG (nerve conduction study) clinics were closed as per the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
What does that mean for our clinic, only that we currently have had to cancel all of our EMG appointments until further notice. As soon as we get the okay to start retesting we will rebook those appointments.

Dr. Griffith will be only be doing follow up appointments by phone call or video conferencing.
She is planning to continue to provide botox treatments for migraine patients as long as this procedure is allowed. She will contact you either the morning of your appointment or the day before for the follow-up portion of the visit, when you come in you will only receive your treatment.
All new patient appointments will be canceled and rebooked once the COVID crisis has passed.

Dr. Miller will continue to see patients in a following format:
One of our clinic nurses will be calling to screen your symptoms. They will also schedule your appointment as a phone call or video conference with Dr. Miller. During your appointment with Dr. Miller it will be decided if treatment is needed at this time or if you would like to wait until a future date. If you are going to receive treatment they will be planned out at that time and booked for the next day. When you come to the clinic you will be coming to receive treatment only and not to discuss any medical issues with Dr. Miller at that time. If you have any further issues to discuss you will need to book another follow-up phone appointment.

We will continue to follow all the previously outlined clinic safety policies which include:

1) Unless medically necessary only patients will be allowed in the clinic for their appointment

2) If you are worried about Dr. Miller running behind schedule you can call the clinic to see if he is running behind and if so how far, and request our staff to call or text you 30-15 minutes before you will be seen

3) We will be spreading our waiting room chairs out through out the clinic, so if you don't see an available chair, ask the clinic staff where there is an available chair

4) If you have to use a pen to fill out a form, keep the pen, we have lots

5) Our staff will be sanitizing every chair after a person has sat in it so please be patient if it takes them longer to get you back to a room as they are sanitizing everything in there as well

6) If you have traveled outside the country or are not feeling well please call to reschedule your appointment, we will keep our clinic open for as long as possible.

7) Do not show up more then 2-3 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to avoid waiting room build up.

8)If you would like to wait in your car until your appointment you can call and let us know when you have arrived, but do not leave a message as we may not get it in time for your appointment. We are spacing out our appointments and only one doctor is seeing patients at a time so we rarely have people in our waiting room.

We are all working our hardest at this time to help our patients so please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you, we will try our best. We ask in return that you please have some extra patience with us as this is a very stressful and uncertain time for us.

Letting you all see what Dr. Miller looked like back when he graduated from U of C with both his MD and his PhD.
Then residency with his two youngest dressed in scrubs just like daddy. During this crazy time Dr. Miller will have to shave his face for masks to make a proper seal, but other then mask fittings during school he has not gone clean shaven since 2004. So if you think it’s shocking to you just imagine how his wife and kids feel.

03/25/2020

After receiving a letter yesterday from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta we are having to yet again change how run our clinic. We are closed today to try and figure things out, but we will open as soon as can in the next couple days to continue to treat our patients. If you have any questions please give us a call and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

03/23/2020

Effective Monday March 23, 2020 we will need to be making the following changes to keep our patients and staff as safe as possible, yet still be able to provide them with treatment.

1) Unless medically necessary only patients will be allowed in the clinic for their appointment

2) If you are worried about Dr. Miller running behind schedule you can call the clinic to see if he is running behind and if so how far, and request our staff to call or text you 30-15 minutes before you will be seen

7) Our doctors are also going to do as many appointments by phone or video consultation as possible, so you may be receiving a phone call the morning of your appointment asking to keep yourself available during your appointment time at home for a virtual consult. This will apply more to Dr. Griffith, then to Dr. Miller as obviously procedures, ie. injections cannot be preformed remotely.

Our patients, staff and doctors health and safety is our number one priority right now at this time of uncertainty we just ask that you be patient as we all work together to bring you the best health care possible for as long as possible.

If you have any questions please feel free to call us and we will answer them as we can.

12/27/2019

Mind & Muscle will be closed until January 6, 2020, with the exception of January 2 & 3 with Dr. Miller seeing some patients for injection treatments. These appointments are already booked so please do not call asking to see him as those days are full. If you have any emergency in the meantime please go to the emergency room or call 811 and speak to a health care professional.

12/05/2019

We have the best staff around, so when you’re at the clinic please remember to tell them thank- you for all their hard work. Without these 4 ladies our doctors couldn’t do what they do.

11/22/2019

There isn’t anything this doctor won’t do to keep his staff happy, including working til midnight after putting in a full clinic day, putting together a new work station for our nurses. We are all so grateful for how hard you work Dr. Miller.
Excited for all the changes we have been making around the clinic and hope you are enjoying them too.

10/11/2019

You would think this shouldn’t have to be said in today’s society but after 3 issues in the last month we would like to publicly state the following policy and make it clear to all who visit our clinic that we have a 100% no abuse policy towards our staff and doctors. If you become aggressive towards any member of our staff you will be asked to leave the clinic immediately and discharged from our care and have to seek the services of a specialist elsewhere. If you use inappropriate language on the phone we will end our conversation with you immediately. If you have concerns about your treatment while in our clinic you may speak with either your doctor or our clinic manager.

10/01/2019

WE ARE OPENING AT 12:30!!!!!!

10/01/2019

Due to circumstances beyond our control our parking lot has not been cleared of the snow yet and as a result it is almost impossible to enter, even with 4 wheel drive, as Dr Miller learned this morning getting stuck. It took 3 guys to push him out, so we are forced to cancel clinic yet again at least for the morning. We are hoping it will be cleared by lunchtime and we open, but if it is not we will let you know. Thank you to our wonderful patients for their understanding, we will be calling you soon to reschedule your appointments.

09/30/2019
