Aortic valve stenosis occurs when the aortic valve narrows. This narrowing prevents the valve from fully opening, which obstructs blood flow from your heart into your aorta and onward to the rest of your body.

Your left main coronary artery supplies 85% of the blood to your heart!
This is why when it is blocked, it has earned the nickname "widow maker".
The Widowmaker!
Why is a heart attack that afflicts the left coronary artery called the "widowmaker"?
The coronary arteries are the sole suppliers of clean arterial blood to the heart muscle itself. They deliver 200 -250 mL of blood to the myocardium per minute at rest. The left coronary artery carries about 85% of the blood supply to the heart, while the right coronary artery carries the remainder. The coronary arteries begin just above the aortic valve where the aorta exits the heart.
The left main coronary artery supplies the left ventricle, interventricular septum, and parts of the right ventricle. The two main branches are the left anterior descending and the circumflex arteries. The right coronary artery supplies the right atrium & right ventricle. It supplies a small part of the left ventricle and the conduction system. It's two main branches are the right anterior descending and the marginal branch. In addition to the two main arteries many smaller connections between arterioles provides back-up circulation.

Ever wonder what the term "ejection fraction" means?
Arteries are the blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients from your heart to the rest of your body. Healthy arteries are flexible and elastic. Over time, however, too much pressure in your arteries can make the walls thick and stiff, sometimes restricting blood flow to your organs and tissues. This process is called arteriosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries.
Atherosclerosis is a specific type of arteriosclerosis, but the terms are sometimes used interchangeably. Atherosclerosis refers to the buildup of fats and cholesterol in and on your artery walls (plaques), which can restrict blood flow.
These plaques can also burst, triggering a blood clot and possibly an MI or CVA. Although atherosclerosis is often considered a heart problem, it can affect arteries anywhere in your body. Atherosclerosis is a preventable and treatable condition.
Fun facts about some of what makes your hearts cells so special!
Myocardial cells are unlike all other cells in the body based on four characteristics: automaticity, excitability, conductivity, and contractility.
Excitability is the ability of a cardiac cell to respond to a stimulus by depolarizing and firing an action potential.
Conductivity is the capacity of the cardiac cells to transmit electricity between them.
Contractility is the measure of cardiac pump performance, and more specifically the degree to which muscle fibers can shorten when activated by a stimulus independent of preload and afterload.
Automaticity is the cardiac cell's ability to spontaneously generate an electrical impulse (depolarize).
This 2012 study showed that EECP can reduce arterial stiffness, and improve arterial function!
