Mizzy and I stumbled upon the biggest prickly lettuce patch! I walk by here all the time and somehow missed it…? 😆 My iPhone plant ID feature tells me the last picture is of catnip peeking out from amongst all the lettuce. I will have to ask to confirm but Mizzy was in a hurry to smell all the things so that will be another day.
What are you finding around your neighborhood these days? There is always so much to see!

I am headed out tomorrow for the third weekend of Year One and am so excited to spend time on the land with the plants. 🌱

I can’t get enough of my new friend!
Did you know that unlike monarchs, swallowtails overwinter on their host plant and come out in the spring?
I really hope it decides to stay and we can watch it throughout the seasons. Apparently their cocoon is a light shade of green and blends in so well with the plant it is often hard to find. So many cool things to learn!!

Weekend 2 ❤️

To be in a space with the plants and these amazing women. To be safe to feel vulnerable, to sing, to dance, to cry. It is such a gift and I am forever in gratitude for all of it.

I came home and found plants that we worked with, who I had never met before, growing in my front garden… 🤯 Like they knew how much I needed them and were just waiting for me to figure it out, knowing one day soon I would. Have I told you how much I just really f**king love these plants!?!? I am just constantly in awe of how much they can teach us if we open ourselves to listen.

Attempting to make the Jkb Journal Non-Toxic Sunscreen today! ☀️
After spending too long in the garden and getting pretty burnt yesterday I decided to give this a go. It’s my first time DIY-ing a sunscreen so I am excited to see how they turn out and hopeful that I can say goodbye 👋 to expensive store bought chemicals!

Some beautiful sights in the garden this morning. I have never seen Motherwort leaves so big! 🤩
Drizzly Sunday mornings are kind of my fave. It’s quiet outside, the colours just pop out and the smell of spring lingers in the air. Ah, I love it!
Don’t let the weather deter you from seeing all the beauty of the season. 💚

I can’t believe it was already almost a week ago that I left for my first weekend ❤️
It feels like yesterday and forever ago all at once.
We sat in circle, shared our stories and journeyed with the plants. It was pure magic. ✨
As I sat in my own yard this morning with the dandelions and walked to the apple tree in the field where I walk Mizzy to say hello, I realized how common the plants we worked with are. Sumac, dandelion, apple. They are so close and all around us, everywhere! These amazing plants with such life! Such magic and medicine! Teachings for us just sitting in the fields, waiting for someone to ask. To listen.
So maybe today while you sit out in the glorious sun or go for a walk, maybe take a moment to pause. To smile at the sumac, the dandelion, the apple. And say hello. Thank you for being here. It’s in those tiniest of moments that pure magic can occur.

It’s almost SPRUCE TIP TIME!!! 🌲

We have a lot of evergreens near my house. Pine, spruce, cedar, etc. I like to visit them in the winter and leave offerings of wild bird seed, dried herbs, or even just a friendly hello 👋! As spring blooms more and more everyday, I imagine they are happy to see their tree friends come back again. Maybe they tell the maples, magnolias and fruit trees about everything that happened over the winter months. Maybe the flowering trees tell the evergreens about all the dreams they had while they were sleeping. Or perhaps they give each other a friendly hello 👋 and enjoy the sun in each other’s company again.
In any case, I am grateful to share this tiny piece of land with all of them. ❤️ 🌲 🌳 ❤️
