This annual event has raised over $8.1 million for local charities since 1998, with a record $1.66 million in 2023. Bringing together sponsors, partners, charities, family, and friends, it's one of Canada's biggest charity events.

Join us in remembering Ralph Tannis, founder of The Snowsuit Fund ❤

Ralph’s dedication and passion, along with co-founder Joan Gullen’s, were instrumental in shaping our organization and helping countless children over the years.

We acknowledge with gratitude their leadership. Over 40 years ago, they saw a need in our community and rallied support from businesses and individuals to bring their passion for change to fruition.

Joanne Andrews, General Manager of the Snowsuit Fund, shared Ralph's last message to her, recalling how he and Joan created the Snowsuit Fund:

“I remember when Joan Gullen came into my office 30+ years ago to tell me there were thousands of young kids with no winter coats. I was shocked and surprised, and like most people, I had never thought about it. She figured that since I was on TV with my Fat Albert’s commercials all the time, I would be a good spokesperson. So, I said let’s start a Snowsuit Fund. Why not, eh! I think that in the first full year we gave out about 4,000 used Snow Suits. Shockingly. But people who had no used snowsuits started to give us money to buy new ones. The rest is history. You know all that. My favourite legacy. The cause never ends.”

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Ralph Tannis, including so many of us here at the Snowsuit Fund – past and present members of the Board of Directors, as well as staff, volunteers, and clients.

Along with the Snowsuit Fund, Ralph Tannis co-founded Fat Alberts/Ralphs with Nelson Davis and grew the brand to 22 restaurants. Ralph was a strong believer in community service, serving on boards of the CCEA and NCC as well as being on the Competition Bureau.

All of us at the Snowsuit Fund honour Ralph Tannis’ memory and thank him for his tireless work to improve the lives of so many here in Ottawa.

"The Snowsuit Fund is an Ottawa-based charity that raises funds for the purchase and distribution of new, quality made snowsuits to needy children, 15 years and under, in our community.....we distribute approximately 16,000 new snowsuits to qualifying families. Countless other families simply in need of a helping hand benefit from our freely available collection of gently used winter outerwear."

In the spirit of the giving season, the MPCC is happy to be collecting snowsuits for this wonderful cause.
