I can understand the natural consequences for people feeling unsafe and becoming guarded to protect themselves, family, communities and society at-large; however, in order to overcome addictions - which impacts all members of society - people need a supported and safe pathway to recovery, which can be safe for all.

2021 Year in Review
• Vision: A World Without Sorrow
• Mission: Empowering underserved communities through accessible counselling
Moving Forward cuts through bureaucracy and silos by having an open mandate – providing counselling and support to anyone who needs it regardless of their financial circumstances, location, presenting health issue, identified gender, etc. We are not the right fit for everyone, but have a team of about 275 counsellors, social workers, social service workers and interns able to support our most vulnerable communities. We are a hybrid of public and private models – taking the best of both while avoiding the limitation within each. Any funds we receive go towards supervision/support of our counsellors, creating a ‘multiplier’ effect (funding experienced supervisors who can support many counsellors/social workers who in turn can each see many clients). This service delivery approach is unique as it is not reliant on traditional funding models – models that are necessary but also come with significant limitations in terms of limiting who can access a service; this freedom allows us to focus not only on the acute care needs of our communities, but also to focus on prevention and early intervention - so we can ultimately reduce the numbers of people who reach crisis. Wait times continue to be minimal.
This past year, we grew in leaps and bounds. We averaged approximately 3500 active clients per month, connecting with clients in 20+ languages, while receiving about 10-15 new referrals per day. We offered dozens of free group programs, in various languages in addition to individual counselling and coaching in healthy relationships and life skills.
We have over a dozen clinical supervisors and another dozen group supervisors to support our counsellors and social workers. We provided numerous in-house training for our team, including family systems therapy, mindfulness based somatic therapy, trauma, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Integrated Family Systems, working with couples, using art in therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
We developed dozens of new collaborations all in efforts to contribute to a more integrated system of support for under-served communities.
In the coming year, we look forward to continuing to support our communities with accessible counselling and support.

• Are you planning for or currently undergoing life transitions?

Participants will be paid up to $120 to complete a series of questionnaires before and after the group sessions.

Happy Holidays to All
This year has marked unprecedented uncertainty and change in daily life. Together we can move forward through it all, giving thanks along the way knowing that there is a sovereign plan, a purpose, a destiny for each and every one of us. For this reason, we can hope and believe to press on, in strength.
I encourage you to find little or big ways to brighten your day and to find a way to give to someone else - something that you have, to share so that there is no lack. Maybe that might be time, listening, doing a favour, sharing food, providing for practical needs, or whatever… it is, know that it might be the very thing that caused a person to choose to press on, to live, to face the day, with joy. So, I encourage you to share your joy, lend your hope and be blessed doing it!
