The City of Toronto will be voting on the 2022 budget mid-February and politicians need to hear from the public that we want environmental and social justice and we want it now. We will hear from experienced activists Lyn Adamson and Valerie Endicott and then write our own letters on the Zoom call together advocating for what we want politicians to prioritise in the budget! LNSA is inviting you to attend our networking and workshop event on February 19 from 7-8 PM. All proceeds raised from this event will be allocated towards projects in the Alexander Skutch Biological Corridor, and the Costa Rican communities in the surrounding area.
Our event will include various breakout rooms for a variety of workshops alongside a brief introduction from our Dean, Alice Hovorka, a presentation from the Las Nubes Alumni Network, and will include Professor Leesa Fawcett as our guest speaker! Our team, The Carbon Free Club at York University, is planning on facilitating an event to help promote art and sustainability, which will raise funds for the Amazon rainforest fires, and help support Indigenous communities/associations in South America. Our intention is to revive both art and sustainability digitally, especially given the current climate crisis and the pandemic, and we aim to do so by inviting knowledgeable guest speakers and talented artists in support of our goal and mission.

The BriBri are one of many Indigenous communities in Costa Rica who are fighting to reclaim their land in an effort to conserve their way of life and create a stable future for their children. Violence between non-Indigenous and Indigenous communities has worsened due to inadequate government support, and many have lost their jobs. This situation has worsened with the realities of COVID-19.
While families continue to navigate the long and costly legal process to reclaim their Indigenous lands, they are asking for support from us to provide their children with school supplies and items beyond basic necessities. Additional funds will support a BriBri women-led initiative to create and sell reusable cloth sanitary pads. This project aims to reduce environmental impact and bring social change in the lives of those involved.
