“I wanted to draw dandelions because of how resilient and indestructible they are, just like us. Dandelions are a beautiful and under-appreciated plant, labelled a w**d that needs to be destroyed, but they contain so many nutrients and medicinal properties. Their tops are fluffy and joyful, but try to rip them from the ground and you will be stung by their spines. Throw as much w**d killer on us as you want, but we will always be here, standing tall and proud. We are a vital part of this world and we will never be eliminated.”

As a way to move from the linear timeline of healing and coming to terms with how trauma does not exist in subsequent happenings, it was never going to be okay tries to break down years of silence in simpson’s debut collection of poetry.
