For the next lecture in our colloquium series, Dr. Cameron Pierson (UBC School of Information) will provide preliminary findings of a current study examining how the LIS scholarly and practitioner literature conceptualise ‘safe spaces’ though discourse and documented strategies, with focus on libraries in digital transformation. It typologizes these conceptualisations and examines perceived responsibilities amongst practitioners in curating of safe spaces, the approaches practitioners utilise, and the sociotechnical factors influencing their choices. Implications for safe space cultivation in hybrid practice are discussed.

On Tuesday, November 21, join artist Jeffery Chong as part of the IDEAS/iSGM Speaker Series. He will share how his family research and profession in archives have shaped his artistic practice. He will talk about navigating through local archives to track his family history in Canada. Jeffery will also tell the story about discovering in the CBC Archives the news footage of his grandfather, and how it inspired his public art currently displayed in downtown Vancouver, Home Edition. Jeffery will conclude by sharing some works in progress.
