The AMAZING Tinta Experience at Masagana Flower Farm
Learn the art of natural dyeing with Lourdes at Tinta, a dye-your-own wearable art experience at her flower farm in southeast Manitoba. Craft naturally dyed silk scarves and cotton shawls using flowers and indigo plants grown by Lourdes, and hand-dyed by you. Wind up and get nourished with a light salo-salo, a festive Filipino tradition of celebrating by gathering and eating together. Take a bite, wind down and leave the farm feeling refreshed and inspired.
No experience necessary, no green thumb required. New hobby and plant obsession guaranteed!
Lourdes Still is the visionary behind Masagana Flower Farm & Studio, a seasonal flower farm, natural dye studio and experiential tourism destination near La Broquerie, Manitoba.
Through a commitment to environmentally-conscious land stewardship, Lourdes emphasizes eco-friendly growing practices after turning lawns into garden beds. She grows seasonal blooms specializing in plants and flowers that can be used as natural dye sources. The farm is seasonal, but her floral-dyed projects are year-round.
Focusing on the TINTA experience, guests use natural flower dyes to create their wearable art. Many of the plants are grown on-site, and depending on the time of year, guests can participate in a flower u-pick or forage-from-the-forest experience to create their unique eco-print on textiles. She believes that growing joy (through flowers) and creating magic (through dye plants) is right at our fingertips and our gardens present opportunities to respond positively to the climate emergency. In 2023, Masagana Flower Farm & Studio was named The Small Business of the Year At Travel Manitoba's Tourism Awards. A distinction presented to a tourism business, facility, event or attraction with fewer than 20 employees that provides exceptional visitor experiences that result in a high level of customer satisfaction through the experiences of services provided.

A new, one-night-only theatre experience is coming to Winnipeg. THIS IS ME: An Interactive Musical Experience is an original show that will have its premiere at this year’s Kultivation Festival.
Co-producer Tricia Magsino Barnabe is presenting the show through her non-profit production label, A Million Dreams. She said the evening “invites music lovers to an inspirational voyage of self-discovery, optimism and empowerment.” Audience members, young and old, are invited to sing along to jazz tunes, pop singles, Broadway hits and songs from movie musicals. All this, while enjoying complimentary appetizers and drinks.
“I wanted to showcase the unique talents of our performers and creative team, provide an exciting and unforgettable experience for our participants and audience, and also introduce a platform to raise awareness and fundraise for the worthy causes of our charity, L’Arche Winnipeg” said Magsino Barnabé.
THIS IS ME features a surprise cast of over two dozen Winnipeg singers, a Zumba dance group and performers from L’Arche Winnipeg, all collaborating to perform a partly scripted, partly improvised musical theatre show that is sure to get the audience members out of their seats and onto the stage.
Winnipeg’s Reporter in Pink and award-winning filmmaker, Joanne Roberts, makes up the other half of the producing duo alongside Magsino Barnabé. Roberts said the evening is not just a night of music; it’s also acting as a fundraiser for a local charity – a staple for A Million Dreams.
“We really wanted this show to be a night of empowerment through entertainment, while also supporting a good cause,” said Roberts.
One hundred per cent of the proceeds are going to the local charity, L’Arche Winnipeg, an organization which creates homes and social opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. (https://www.larchewinnipeg.org/)
“We invite you to sing and dance in your seats, in the aisles and absolutely, on stage too,” said Magsino Barnabé.

Kultivation Art committee is excited to announce an open call for submission for it's upcoming group exhibition Seremonya. Seremonya will take place at the gallery during the 2024 Kultivation festival from August 23rd to the 25th. This exhibition is open to call artists from the Filipinx community and hopes to share their stories on what the action of 'ceremony' means to them. Artists can submit their work till July 31st via PDF form linked in caption. Artists shall follow the Seremonya brief described below. For more information about the show or submissions, please contact the Kultivation Art Committee at [email protected].
Submission link to PDF: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MkLj5O0k6buNcAvHW-SGN1uzLM6ZsvJ0/view?usp=sharing
SEREMONYA BRIEF
Learning from the success of its previous showcase, KATAUHAN, the Kultivation Art Committee aims to build upon the theme of Filipinx identity in the upcoming exhibition, titled SEREMONYA. This title, translated to English as "ceremony," encapsulates a concept that has been observed across various groups, cultures, and social strata. Ceremony serves as a means to celebrate joyous occasions or express grief. Its manifestations vary, contingent upon the instigator. Thus, the art committee presents SEREMONYA—an exhibition that contemplates the profound significance of ceremony for individuals and prompts introspection on what holds sacred meaning for Filipinx people. Essentially, it delves into the unique journey of being a Filipinx individual on Canadian soil and the multifaceted nature of identity therein. With SEREMONYA as the focal point, the committee endeavors to continue spotlighting Filipinx art while providing a robust platform for both emerging and established artists. Building upon the previous show, artists will share contemporary diasporic narratives with an extended duration and a more focused perspective. Furthermore, SEREMONYA aims to deepen the bond between the artists' work and the community through programming such as studio visits and an open conversation with emerging and established Filipinx artists.
For more guidelines of the brief refer to the submission PDF.

Lupa ay Buhay | Land is Life: A Filipino craft exhibition, to be hosted at MCML in summer 2024, will showcase the diverse and Indigenous crafts across the Philippine archipelago, including intricate textile weaving, mystical wood carvings, elegant and symbolic jewelry, and more. By learning about Filipino culture through their craft practices, we will discover how it is both art and livelihood for many.
With the Philippines being an agricultural country that is also rich in other natural resources, craft practices revolve around the land that Indigenous peoples and farmers cultivate. The theme of the exhibition, Lupa ay Buhay, will pay homage to the land that Indigenous peoples and farmers of the Philippines have tended and lived off of for centuries and continue to do so.
Manitoba Craft Museum and Library is looking for passionate craftspeople who are interested in sharing their knowledge and skills, specifically with respect to the Lupa ay Buhay | Land is Life exhibit.
Hands on workshops can be scheduled for weekday evenings or weekends in July or August 2024
Craft demonstrations are being planned for August 2 during the First Friday event 6pm-9pm and on Saturday August 24, noon - 4pm during Kultivation festival week Aug 19-25.
