Canada's unemployment rate sees a slight dip in September 📉
According to the latest Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey, Canada's unemployment rate dropped to 6.5% in September, marking the first decline since January.
However, this drop may not accurately reflect current market conditions, as employment growth of 47,000 was offset by a population increase of 110,000. This led to a 0.1% dip in the employment rate (60.7%).
The report specifies that growth factors for employment gains included rising employment amongst youth and core-aged women. Additionally, it states that despite growth in sectors including culture and recreation, scientific and technical services, and wholesale and retail trade, the market still faces challenges. Particularly slower labour force participation and regional disparities in British Columbia and New Brunswick.
As we continue to face an uncertain job market, look to us to provide support! Whether you're an employer or a job seeker, we can help you understand current market conditions across Canada as we help you reach your goals.

Navigating the jobs of tomorrow 🚀
Due to technological breakthroughs, the global labour market is rapidly transforming. Recently, the World Economic Forum published a report stating that 23% of today’s jobs will change by 2027, and some roles will be eliminated entirely.
However, by proactively transitioning workers to new roles, we can avoid the potential adverse effects of these changes. The report outlines a framework that enables the transition to the jobs of tomorrow. Here are some key takeaways:
1️⃣ Reskilling and Upskilling: Investing in ongoing learning will be crucial to transitioning workers. Going forward, reskilling will be a continuous process for workers, and organizations must create that support this.
2️⃣ Improving Employer-Employee Matching: Employers can boost job matching by offering flexible work options and leveraging tech to expand talent pools. Additionally, internal mobility, mentorship, and coaching can also support smoother transitions.
3️⃣ Providing Worker Safety Nets: Establishing programs such as financial support and healthcare benefits can help workers confidently pursue new career opportunities and support them through unforeseen circumstances.
4️⃣ Multi-stakeholder Collaboration: Governments, businesses, and educational institutions can collaborate to identify areas where skills align between sectors and create a mutually beneficial relationship by exchanging employees.
At Drake International, our goal is to support you in navigating these shifts. Whether you're looking for the next step in your career or building teams prepared for the future, click the link in the comments to connect and learn how we can help you succeed.

A winning strategy for workforce productivity 🏆
When we think of championship teams in sports, the star players often get the spotlight. However, another factor that is key to success is depth. It's not just about the starting lineup but the talented individuals ready to step up when called upon.
The same principle applies in the workplace. Just as sports teams need reliable bench strength, organizations need a deep roster of skilled employees. This comparison is particularly fitting when looking at the role of temporary workers in the workplace.
These individuals fill immediate staffing needs during periods of peak demand, transitions, or in times of growth. By investing in a strong, skilled pool of temporary workers, companies ensure they are always prepared to maintain productivity and meet challenges head-on.
Whether it’s on the court or in the office, depth is essential! Click the link in the comments to read our latest article, highlighting how you can build your talent depth.

In sports, depth refers to the number of players who can perform when called upon. Just like successful sports organizations, companies need talented workers at all levels to thrive.
Leveraging temporary recruitment may be the secret to building your bench and boosting your team’s productivity. We recently published an article highlighting how organizations can build talent depth using this recruitment solution. Here are some key points to consider:

2️⃣ Onboard Effectively: Having a clear onboarding process ensures workers integrate quickly and contribute from day one.
3️⃣ Integrate Workers into Team Culture: Many individuals consider workplace culture a motivating factor. Including workers in activities and collaboration can boost morale and improve performance.
4️⃣ Offer Training and Support: Ongoing development can help maximize potential, even for short-term team members.

Today's career tip is from our Regional Sales Manager of Western Canada Janet Ross.
"As part of the overall evaluation, you will be evaluated on your appearance – first impressions to a prospective employer and “looking the part” will be an advantage or disadvantage to you. How you dress will depend on the business circumstances whether it is casual, or formal. Try to research the person who is interviewing you and the environment you are going in."
