CIRES/NOAA Chemical Sciences Laboratory, Post-Doctoral Associate in Atmospheric Chemistry Modeling and Satellite-Remote Sensing Observations
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences—a collaboration between the University of Colorado Boulder and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration-–is seeking a Post-Doctoral Associate to perform chemical data assimilation of satellite-remote sensing observations of greenhouse gas (GHG) and air quality (AQ) species. Specifically, this project will investigate the capabilities of a future low earth orbiting satellite constellation that encompasses the ultraviolet–visible–near infrared– thermal infrared (UV-VIS-NIR-TIR) for tracking emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), and for performing source attribution by leveraging correlations across co-emitted trace gasses such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ammonia (NH3). A multi-species approach aids in attribution of GHG and AQ emissions to key sectors, such as fossil fuel combustion (e.g., transportation), oil and gas operations, and agriculture, as well as quantifying co-benefits of mitigating GHGs and AQ species.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

A position is open for a Postdoctoral Associate with the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, and the Carbon Cycle and Greenhouse Gases (CCGG) division of NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory. We are seeking a post-doctoral candidate to implement methane and its isotopologues, both δ¹³C-CH₄ and δD-CH₄, in a global atmospheric model, with the end goals of (1) Improving our understanding of the methane budget from atmospheric measurements of CH₄, δ¹³C-CH₄ and δD-CH₄, and (2) Designing future atmospheric measurement networks for these tracers.
