For those who haven’t already had the pleasure, meet 🥳

Sam has been coaching our community in Trowbridge since 2015, and is a much loved by all the Bridge members! 🔥

Sam has previously worked for Bath Rugby as the team’s mobility specialist. At present when he’s not coaching on the gym floor, he’s workings as an Eleiko Educator, sharing his knowledge with other coaches and helping them to deliver the best service to their clients and members 😍

You’ll start to see Sam a little more - alongside his coaching at CrossFit Trowbridge, he’ll be coaching classes and taking on new clients for personal training in Bath as well!

We’re super excited to announce that has joined the coaching team! 🤩

Sophie is in her second year of University, studying Sport and Exercise Science! She has been coaching and competing in CrossFit and Weightlifting for the past three years 😍

Sophie’s favourite thing about coaching CrossFit is helping people find that “aha” moment with their training, coming up with different cues for the individual so that it all clicks together! Whether that’s olympic lifting, gymnastics or efficiency tips! 🔥

💥What is the Purpose of EMOM’s?💥

I’m sure you’ve seen the increase of the EMOM in our training over the last few weeks! The EMOM (every minute on the minute) is a great addition to our training as provides a structured and efficient way to improve conditioning, strength and skills! 🤩

EMOM’s allow us to focus on a specific movement or skill for a set period of time. By having that time limit on how long to work for allows us to maintain the quality of our reps and movement. Rather than focusing on speed, we focus on quality so that it will transfer across into the workout setting as well! Additionally, EMOM’s allow us to track our progress and measure the improvement over time. If we can add more reps or weight to the movements in each minute, it shows that we are building those skills whilst developing volume and strength within the same timeframe! 😍

Take Friday’s EMOM 10 for example, a 10 minutes alternating between, 1 Power Clean and Jerk and 20-40 Double Unders. The EMOM allows us to practise our clean and jerks within a set time frame under a little bit of fatigue from the Double Unders. However the main focus is to ensure that we are maintaining perfect technique throughout, in preparation for the workout to follow! 🥳

Used properly, EMOM’s can be a great addition to our training! 🔥

💥Tempo Training💥

Tomorrow in our accessories you’ll see that we have split squats programmed with a tempo…. so we thought it would be a great time to show why using tempos can be so benefitial! 👀

Tempo training is all about moving slowly and under control! You’ll break down the movement into the fundamentals, an ecentric portion, a concentric portion and two ismoetric portions! Each portion of the lift is assigned its own number, corresponding to how many seconds that part of the lift will take you 🥳

By lifting to a set tempo, you’ll increase your time under tension, compared to your standard lifting pace. For example, say you typically split squat for a set of 10 reps, and each rep takes you two seconds to complete. In total, you accumulate 20 seconds of tension. However, if you take three seconds to descend then stand up in one second, and pause for 1 second at the top each rep will take you about five seconds. Do six reps at that pace, and you’ll have accumulated 30 seconds of tension! 😅

Tempo training will have you lifting slower and with more intention, building a stronger mind-muscle connection, more mental toughness, and — oh yeah — more straight-up strength! 😎

Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned athlete, one of the best ways to increase strength while avoiding injury and improving strength is maintaining proper movement mechanics, and that’s what tempo training will have you doing! 😍

💥Strict Movements!💥

Tomorrow's workout of the day is all about the strict movements, both the strict handstand push up and the strict pull up. Making it the perfect opportunity to explain why we love strict movements in CrossFit! 😍

While kipping movements have their place in our training, it’s important not to overlook the importance of strict movements. They may seem more challenging and demanding, but they bring incredible benefits to our overall strength and control. Here's why they're so great…👀

1️⃣ BUILDING FOUNDATION: Strict movements lay the foundation for mastering the harder skills. They focus on developing individual muscle groups, reinforcing proper technique, and enhancing body awareness. By prioritising strict movements, we create a solid base from which we can progress further.

2️⃣ STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT: When we perform strict movements, we use a larger number of muscles throughout the range of motion. This leads to more strength gains. With time and consistency, you'll notice improvements not only in specific movements but also in your overall functional strength.

3️⃣ INJURY PREVENTION: Strict movements prioritise control and stability, reducing the risk of injuries. They make is use proper form and limit the reliance on momentum. By gradually strengthening the muscles, we build resilience and protect us against any potential setbacks.

4️⃣ TRANSFERABLE SKILLS: The benefits of strict movements extend beyond the direct use of them. The strength and stability developed through strict movements can enhance other exercises, making you a more well-rounded athlete. Whether it's gymnastics or weightlifting, strict movements provide a solid foundation for progression!

Tomorrow's strict EMOM is an excellent opportunity to put these principles into practice, either in the full movement or a challenging scale to build our pushing and pulling strength. Let’s keep the standards hight and focus on maintaining strict form throughout each rep, to make sure we are really building that strength! 🔥
