Squashing ANTs:
How to Stop Automatic Negative Thoughts
ANTs have the power to undermine your self-esteem, hinder your progress, and even lead to anxiety and depression. With the right strategies however, you can build a mental extermination team to stop these pesky creatures in their tracks.
What Are ANTs?
Automatic Negative Thoughts are those sneaky, uninvited thoughts that pop up in your mind without any conscious effort on your part. They often take the form of critical self-talk, self-doubt, or irrational fears. ANTs have a knack for making situations seem worse than they are and can cast a dark cloud over your mental landscape.
Understanding ANTs:
Before you can defeat ANTs, you must learn to recognise them. ANTs come in various forms:
1. Cognitive Distortions: These are thinking patterns that distort reality. Common distortions include all-or-nothing thinking (seeing things in black and white), overgeneralisation (making sweeping conclusions based on limited evidence), and catastrophising (imagining the worst possible outcome).
2. Negative Self-Talk: This is when you constantly criticise yourself, doubt your abilities, or engage in self-blame. It's like having a relentless inner critic that never takes a break.
3. Mind Reading: Assuming you know what others are thinking about you, usually in a negative light. You might believe that people are judging or disapproving of you even when there's no evidence to support this.
4. Fortune Telling: Predicting future events as if they were certain, usually in a pessimistic way. This often leads to unnecessary anxiety about things that may never happen.
How to Stop ANTs:
1. Identify Your ANTs: Start by paying attention to your thoughts. When you catch a negative thought, write it down. Be specific about what triggered it and how it makes you feel.
2. Challenge Cognitive Distortions: Examine your negative thoughts and ask yourself if they're based on facts or distorted thinking. Try to reframe these thoughts with more realistic and positive alternatives.
3. Practice Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer to a friend. Remember that nobody is perfect, and it's okay to make mistakes.
4. Mindfulness Engage in mindfulness practices to become more aware of your thoughts. Mindfulness can help you distance yourself from ANTs and reduce their impact on your emotions.
5. Positive Affirmations: Counteract ANTs with positive affirmations. When a negative thought arises, replace it with a positive and empowering statement about yourself or the situation.
ANTs may be persistent, but they are not invincible. By recognising and challenging these automatic negative thoughts, you can take control of your mental well-being. With practice and patience, you can build a resilient mindset that keeps those ANTs at bay and allow a more positive mindset.

The Lens of Perception: How We Shape Our Reality
In the grand theatre of life, we often overlook a fundamental truth: we don't experience life as it is; instead, we experience the life we focus on. This statement holds profound implications for how we navigate the world and perceive our reality. It's not about what happens to us, but rather how we choose to interpret and engage with those experiences.

The Lens We Use to Filter Reality
Imagine life as a vast landscape, and our perception as a lens through which we view this landscape. This lens is not fixed; it's dynamic and influenced by various factors such as our beliefs, past experiences, and mindset. Just like different camera lenses can capture the same scene in vastly different ways, our perception filters reality according to our unique psychological framework.
Reinforcing Our Beliefs
Our perception acts as a feedback loop, reinforcing our beliefs and shaping our reality accordingly. If we believe the world is a hostile place, we'll unconsciously seek out evidence to support this belief, filtering out anything that contradicts it. This selective attention strengthens our convictions and solidifies our worldview, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The Power of Attention
Attention is the currency of consciousness. What we choose to focus on determines our reality. If we constantly dwell on negativity and limitations, we'll perpetuate a cycle of discontent and despair. Conversely, by directing our attention towards gratitude, abundance, and possibilities, we invite positivity and growth into our lives.
The Experiment: Shifting Perspectives
Now, let's conduct a simple experiment to illustrate the power of shifting perspectives.
1. Identify a Negative Thought Pattern: Take a moment to reflect on a recurring negative thought or belief that holds you back. It could be self-doubt, fear of failure, or feelings of unworthiness.
2. Challenge the Thought: Examine the evidence supporting this belief. Are there alternative interpretations or counterexamples that contradict it?
3. Reframe the Thought: Now, consciously choose to reframe this negative thought into a more empowering perspective. For example, instead of saying, "I'm not good enough," reframe it as, "I am capable of growth and improvement."
4. Practice Mindful Awareness: Throughout your day, pay attention to the thoughts and narratives running through your mind. Whenever you catch yourself slipping into negative patterns, gently redirect your focus towards more constructive and uplifting thoughts.
5. Notice the Shift: Over time, observe how this shift in perspective influences your mood, behaviour, and overall outlook on life. You may notice a gradual but profound transformation in how you experience reality.
Cultivating Conscious Perception
In conclusion, we don't passively experience life; we actively shape it through the lens of our perception. By becoming aware of our thought patterns and consciously choosing where to direct our attention, we reclaim agency over our reality. On Thursday January 4th I will be delivering my free one hour ‘Conquer your Cravings Workshop’ from 7-8pm ( just message me for link or any other details ). During this workshop I will be discussing why we get cravings for certain foods and how to deal with them using hypnosis techniques.
I am following this up with a full Hypno-slimmer course over 4 weeks for those of you who would like to commit to an intensive weight loss programme which includes 4 weekly powerful hypnosis sessions following the hypno-slimmer protocols , access to a private Facebook group where you can access daily support & coaching , along with support from others and support audios to help install all the positive suggestions for change ( New Year discount price of only £135 for the whole programme and all resources !)
