Earthquake survivors in Turkey and Syria will receive emergency aid of £60,000 thanks to Sussex Freemasons

Survivors of the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria will be receiving vital emergency supplies thanks to a £60,000 grant from Sussex Freemasons along with other Freemasons from across the country, to the British Red Cross, UK for UNHCR and UNICEF who are leading the relief effort on the ground.

More than 16,000 people are confirmed to have died in the two quakes which have devastated large areas of south west Turkey and across the border in Syria. The death toll is certain to rise significantly as more bodies are found.

Tens of thousands of survivors are sleeping in the open in temperatures which have fallen well below zero. Snow is falling in some parts as the region experiences colder than average winter weather that is also hampering rescue efforts.

Damage from the quake has affected at least seven provinces in Turkey as well as across northwest Syria. Thousands of homes have been destroyed, displacing families, and schools, hospitals, and other medical and educational facilities will have been damaged or destroyed by the quakes. Potential damage to roads and critical infrastructure will also complicate search and rescue efforts and the wider humanitarian response.

The grant comes through the Masonic Charitable Foundation, which is funded by Freemasons, their families and friends, from across England and Wales.

Luke Tredget, Head of Emergencies from the British Red Cross, said:
“We’re very grateful for this generous grant which will allow us to provide immediate emergency relief to people who are in desperate need. This disaster has devastated vast areas of both countries and left millions of people in urgent need of help.”
Maurice Adams, Deputy Head of Sussex Freemasons said:

“We are very pleased we’ve been able to help the Red Cross, UNICEF and the UNHCR with their relief effort following this terrible earthquake. Many thousands of people are in very urgent need of assistance and I’m proud that Freemasons are providing essential support to charities on the ground working with survivors.”

HRH The Duke of Kent, KG was Installed as Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England on 27 June 1967 at the Royal Albert Hall, during the special 250th Anniversary Meeting of Grand Lodge held on that day.

Brethren under the United Grand Lodge of England, together with their wives, partners, family and friends, are invited to a celebration of His Royal Highness’s 55 years as our Grand Master at a concert in the Grand Temple on the evening of Tuesday, 18th October. The invitation is also being extended on a similar basis to members of other organisations of which His Royal Highness is President or Patron.

The concert will feature a wide selection of musicians ranging from those still at one of the Music Conservatoires, (including Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, of which His Royal Highness is Patron); those establishing themselves in the early years of their careers as performers and those at the peak of their careers, such as Rick Wakeman and Christopher Stokes, the Grand Organist.

The concert will feature music by Coates, Fauré, Debussy and Mendelssohn (His Royal Highness is Patron of the UK Friends of the Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Foundation) amongst others. The second half will consist of a performance of Saint Saëns’ “Carnival of the Animals”, featuring specially-written verses linked to each featured animal being read by senior Freemasons well-known to us all.

Starting at 19:00, the concert is expected to be over by 21:15, although the bar/café area will be open until 22:00 for those that wish to stay. Brethren will note that the concert will not be a Masonic meeting and formal dress is not required, but in the presence of the Grand Master those attending will wish to be smartly dressed.

An exhibition of material associated with the celebration will be shown in the Library and Museum and will be open later than normal, until the start of the concert.

The concert will be free to attend and is expected to be heavily subscribed, so an early response is recommended. The link for tickets is given here for your information. https://ugle.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a19ebddb1f56f7e5d85e4ab82&id=29f9508c4d&e=631aac4979

Knights of the Road Lodge No.3673 started the New Year with a fantastic initiation meeting yesterday evening.
There were a number of other Lodges represented at the meeting and it was great to see so many guests (both new and old) in attendance and witness Bro Steve's initiation ceremony.
A proud moment for the Lodge when the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies (who was in attendance) commented on a 'fantastic ceremony'.
After a turbulent couple of years for many people around the world, it was good to see so many enjoying the evening in a safe environment.

Great meeting, great festive board, great friends!

Wishing all Brethren, their families and our friends a Happy and Healthy 2022.

A great evening at Ordinges Lodge. Good meeting followed by lovely Christmas festive board.

And the traditional 12 days of Christmas!

17/10/2021

Thanks to everyone that came to our Installation Meeting yesterday afternoon and joined us at the Festive Board afterwards.
We got some wonderful compliments on the standard of the ceremony and the atmosphere at the FB. Especially as we where joined by around 25 of our wives and partners, dined in one of the other Dining Rooms.
As our DC commented - we smashed it.
A great some of money raised for Charity was a bonus.
And - compliments from us all to the Catering and Bar staff for looking after us all so well. Keep up the good work.

27/09/2021

Looking forward to starting our meetings again next month.

Yesterday our WM organised a fantastic lunch at Mid Sussex Golf Club where we raised over £2,500 for his charity.

Good to see some of the brethren and their guests. Fantastic turn out with 80 in attendance.
